A worker was rescued from inside a water tower on Wednesday afternoon in Burlington County, New Jersey.
Well, dramatic scene played out today in Florence, Burlington County. Emergency
crew swarmed a water tower after a contractor suddenly suffered a medical
emergency and became trapped inside. Well, that worker is recovering tonight
after a large scale rescue operation actually deported. John Paul is live in
Florence with all those details for us tonight, John. Yeah, Rick, the whole
thing unfolded right behind me at this water tower. Now they have since left
the scene they cleared a few hours ago, but I want to give you an idea of where
that man was stuck. So if you look at this water tower and you start working
your way up right before that large tank, it kind of flares out. There's a
platform there. That's where the man was stuck. Water tower rescue at nearly 100
ft. This was the scene from chopper six this afternoon after a contractor had a
medical emergency inside this water tower on Cedar Lane in Florence
Township, New Jersey. The workers have to climb up there, get up there on the
platform and then do their work. And that's when he had a medical emergency.
That climb a vertical ladder 80 to 100 ft straight up to a platform. We're
told the 63 year old contractor and a co worker made the climb so they could
perform maintenance on the cell phone antennas. But once they got to the top,
the man started having chest pains and realized he would not be able to get
back down that narrow tower. There's not much room in there because there's a
center pillar that comes down and with the ladder and everything like that
makes it difficult. The Burlington County technical rescue team was
activated and went right to work using ropes and pulleys. They were able to
reach that man and lower him down on a special stretcher. Chopper six was
overhead as that stretcher finally reached the first responders on the
ground. They checked him out and our cameras captured the moments. First
responders rushed him off to a waiting ambulance. Despite the challenges, the
rescue took just 51 minutes because of their knowledge, skills and abilities
and their technical capabilities. It makes it easier and a successful
outcome as it was today.
Yeah, Rick, they are the real heroes in all this. We're told that man was
alert and talking is expected to be okay. We're live tonight in Florence
Township, New Jersey. John Paul Channel six Action News, Rick. All right. We
wish him all the best, john. Thank you for that report tonight.
