And now at 11, the big story on Action News
is the continuing investigation into a crash
that left a 13-year-old girl injured in South Jersey.
She was riding an e-scooter when she
was struck by a pickup truck.
Happened on a busy stretch of Route 130 in Bordentown Township.
The teenager remains hospitalized tonight.
The driver questioned by authorities.
Action News reporter Amanda Pitts live
at the scene with the very latest. Amanda.
Yeah, Rick, I'm told that that 13 year old girl was alive
when she was rushed to the hospital this afternoon, but we
are still waiting for the latest update on her condition tonight.
But a witness tells me he saw the whole thing.
He says that girl and another friend were on scooters going through
this busy intersection when she was hit.
I just hope the little girl makes it. That's all.
You know what I mean? And I pray for that family.
A 13-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon.
Witnesses say she and another girl were crossing busy Route 130
when a driver behind the wheel of a pickup truck hit the 13-year-old.
Nathan McMahon watched it unfold.
I saw two little girls about to cross the street,
and there was a red light.
They had the right-of-way. This black Tacoma came out of nowhere.
And just hit one of the girls, knocked her from the sidewalk,
literally across to the other side of the light.
This video from a neighbor shows the immediate aftermath.
First responders rushed to the girl's aid.
She was taken to Cooper Hospital.
On the ground, the girl's scooters laid near the crosswalk,
shown here from Chopper 6,
along with the driver's pickup,
with damage to the front passenger side.
When he first came out, I looked at him. I said, what happened?
You know what I mean? He said, I don't know. I wasn't looking.
Route 130 was shut down for hours as police conducted
their investigation. They towed away the pickup truck
and took the driver in for questioning.
He literally came flying up doing about maybe 40,
45 and there was a red light.
People who live in the area say this stretch is no stranger to crashes
and reckless driving.
They're now hoping that 13-year-old pulls through.
This is a residential area with a lot of kids, a lot of scooters,
a lot of bikes, a lot of e-bikes, a lot of regular bikes.
And this is the only place that they really have
to play down in this parking lot here as well as here.
But people speed through. They don't even think about the kids.
and again we are still waiting for an update
on that little girl's condition
tonight we're also waiting to learn more about
that driver who's involved here
and what charges he might be facing
but we're told the Burlington County
prosecutor's office is now leading
this investigation live in Bordentown Township
New Jersey tonight Amanda Pitts Channel
