WA Election Day 2026: Inside the King County Elections Headquarters

Today is election day and the King County elections office opened before most of us woke up today. Fox 13's Taylor Winkle live from the King County election headquarters in Renton with all the work being done to make sure that your vote is counted. Taylor, good morning. Yeah, good morning Bill, so it doesn't look like a whole lot is going on in this room, that's because this is the quiet part of the process. This is the next step for your ballot after it's delivered here to elections headquarters and your registration is confirmed. People in this room are working to verify your signature. Workers here have been busy doing this all week. They've already made it through more than half a million ballots. This as the doors here are almost ready to open to voters this morning, that's at 8.30. And already this year, King County is seeing pretty good voter turnout. They want that trend to continue today. King County is hoping for more than a million ballots, which would be 75% of registered voters returned. They are already halfway there, and they want to make sure your vote gets counted. So if you don't have your ballot yet, you have until 8 p.m. to register here in person or at any other of the county's vote centers. There are seven of them. And if you are in line, your vote will be counted. If you are going to a Dropbox, those lock right at 8. Getting to a Dropbox right at 8 p.m. is crucial. Our staff will be out there locking them right at 8. The other thing we always encourage voters to do is to track their ballot. It gives you peace of mind that we've received it and that we've verified your signature. Very easy to do. Go sign up online and you'll get a text message or an email that those things have happened. All right then at 8 15 tonight we are expecting our first round of results and while today is busy it is election day. Election staff tells us actually tomorrow is when the real work starts to happen that's when they have to go through all of the ballots that come in today.
