Rupert mentions three recognitions regarding the nature of awareness: you are the witness of experience, you are that in which experience arises, and you are one with experience. Why is the third recognition so much more difficult to grasp than the first two?

Rupert says: ‘The reason why it’s relatively easy to understand the first two is that neither of them contradict the evidence of sense perception. But the last recognition does. It completely shatters our conventional materialistic view of the world.

‘And even when we understand this clearly, sense perception still tells us the world is outside of our self, separate from our self, made out of something other than our self – and our understanding has to override that.’
