The difference between being nice and loving kindness | Eckhart Tolle

Most people have tried, at some point, to be kinder. Eckhart Tolle suggests why it rarely holds. Kindness, in the sense he means, is not a behaviour. It is what emanates from a person who is connected to the deeper dimension of themselves, the timeless being underneath the personality. Buddhism calls it loving kindness, or metta. The Greek of the New Testament calls it agape. When the Dalai Lama says my religion is kindness, Eckhart says, he means that quality, the one that comes off a person rather than out of their effort. Which changes how to read the famous expression, be the change you want to see in the world. People take it as an instruction to behave better. Eckhart reads it differently. It means, first, that you stop demanding that others behave differently. And it means that you cannot behave differently either, not for long, unless the state of consciousness you act from has changed. It does not start with behaving. It starts with accessing a different state, and the behaviour follows. That is also why he says what you do with your life is relatively important, and how you do it is absolutely important. The how is the state you bring. When the surface person is rooted in that depth, it becomes lighter, less limited, and what it brings into the world is the only thing, he says, that really matters. Eckhart goes much further into this in the full session. Join Eckhart Tolle Now to watch. 👇
