1979 Bally Star Trek Pinball Review & Gameplay - All Finished Up!

ladies and gentlemen this is Joe's classic video games back with another really cool arcade game pinball machine video for you this afternoon we finally finished up our old Bally's Star Trek that we've been working on for so long and we figured we'd take a little video of it to show you how the game turned out and to show you how this game was designed back in the day if you've never played this one it's pretty cool it's a simple game like the early Bally's were about early Bally solid state games were but all the games were simple back then so but it's certainly a fun one and has an awesome theme it doesn't get much better in Star Trek does it so this came out in January of 78 so it's quite an old one we're looking at a game that's 40 years old now very cool so on the side you've got the enterprise and orange back there and it's I think we went through this one time before I can't ever tell what the bad guys ships are I'm going to say that's a Romulan warbird that's my guess Enterprise also on the back just a really good looking game and had a really nice color scheme even you know the yellow orange and blue looks fantastic Star Trek really cool back glass with a nice painting on it now originally the prototype won this games kind of famous for the prototype back glass so whenever they first designed it I'm not a Trekkie so I might get some of this wrong if I do you all just have to forgive me feel free to correct me in the comments below originally the costumes on the prototype back glass looked a little more like the TV show this is the course the cast from the original TV show but then they came out with the movie and in the movie the costumes are a little different so since they were doing the movie I believe I've got this right since they were doing the movie they made the costumes on the back glass a little more like the movie and then the other thing is that this guy over here was shooting somebody zapping somebody on the original back glass and they changed it because paramount was like I don't know we can't do that but really cool back glass it has a couple spots where it's delaminated slightly where the basically the way this was silk screened on in this era of Bali is it's basically like a big sheet on the back of the glass so it can in in works in a worst-case scenario it can actually like come loose of the glass so sometimes you'll get one and a big chunk will be missing off the glass where it actually fell off on the back but this one has not done that it did it a little teeny bit and we stopped it in a clear coat at the back of it and was a to keep that so that it won't do it in the future and so uh just a beautiful back glass in my opinion a lot of people change it out for the prototype one because they like the costumes that they're wearing better on that but we usually like to make them back kind of how they were originally so we like to you know originally it came with that glass and we would be happy to put that glass right back in it that's the actual glass that this actual machine shipped with I wonder if the if the back box matches the the cabinet on this one I can see right here the serial number so it says est seven nine five two so usually on the back box they would have one two I haven't looked I don't see the stamp on the back box let's see if it's on this side oh yeah est seven nine five two you see we've touched up the blue some on some parts where it was scratched up and flaking so yeah it's the original cabinet original back box and original back glass still in the game now if you watched our other videos about this one you know that we had to do a lot of repair on the playfield and repaint a lot of it we ended up putting all new flipper stuff flipper bats of course all the plastics are the original plastics we put a new drop targets of course in it we put new pop bumper caps of course all new rings and rubbers and light bulbs and stuff and a lot of paint we did on the play field and it all came out pretty good not bad not bad but I love the artwork that they did there's that there's a right in the center of the play field this is just classic 70s pinball art right in the center of the play field they have a they have a hand-drawn Enterprise that's firing at you alright so you can kind of see it's firing and then you've got kind of them down here at the bottom and that's what they use to put in their bonus ladder artwork you've got who I affectionately reef affectionately referred to as the bald chick on the left slingshot and she's also on the plastic up here now I don't know if she's in the movie or not not sure and then you get Spock up here and then I'm not sure which female character that is or if she's in the movie or not and then you've got Spock down here on the plastic with his famous live long and prosper and I guess you've got the only place you've got Kirk is on the back so let's read over the instructions you know the instructions always make games better to play if you don't even know what you're supposed to be doing I mean I guess you could just flip the ball wildly but if you know what you're supposed to be doing it makes it much better instructions one to four can play for amusement only so no betting on it people okay making Bally scores and advances the lit values all right so you have these Bally lights here in the middle and you've got you two rollovers up here are B and a and then LLY is these three Romulan warbirds over here I know if I'm getting that wrong I'm gonna get roasted on the comments that scores and advances the lit value so lighting Bali scores and advances the lit values which would be ten twenty five fifty thousand or the special right all targets down scores five thousand points that's the four drop targets the first time it lights the two times bonus so at the end of your ball you get your bonus countdown whatever that's that you score and if it's 2x you get it twice right so the first time lights the two exponents the second time lights the three exponents the third and each additional time scores the special so special it can be changed on the game so it can either be a free ball or a free game or 50,000 points a couple of different things top roll over buttons and bottom ball return lanes score in advance the hyperspace value so right here is one of the bottom ball return lanes so as advances hyperspace value this one also says advances hyperspace value and then these two top rollover buttons right there and this is your hyperspace value score and advanced hyperspace value so every time you get one of those you get that score that's lit up and it moves it up to the next one and eventually you get up to an extra ball isn't that special outlane special lights when bali special is lit special when that special one lint so as you spell pally you get the 10 25 50 and then it lights up the special once it gets to there the two out lanes light up is a special as well ball throughout lane and when lit for special scores one replay alright so the special is a free game ball three warp speed Lane scores the bonus now this is the coolest shot of the game in my opinion but I'm an amateur I'm an amateur people so why do I know but check this out if you take this flip phone and you make this shot and you enter the time warp and you proceed at warp speed you collect the bonus whenever it hits that switch Wham then the ball falls back down into the shooter thing you score your bonus in the middle of the ball which is awesome because what that means is you can keep building that up to 20,000 and then if you make that shot you get the 20,000 and then you can do it all over again usually you have to wait to the end of each ball to do that so this is one of those games that you can score all kinds of points on I mean you can rock this thing especially if you get the double and triple and then make the shot right maximum one extra ball per ball in play tilt penalty is the ball in play so there you go there's also this little saucer up here ready ready photon phaser fire 3000 so I guess that also gives you a one of the letters ba ll Y so I guess it'll spot one of the letters for you and then over here you've got 5,000 win lit you get these two lanes here 500 advance bonus bonus bonus bonus bonus bonus bonus bonus lots of bonus a really cool looking pinball machine so I will get the tripod and we'll set it up and we'll see how this sucker plays all right folks we're gonna play through it a little bit we'll see how this sucker spins so basically the Church chime the church bells are going off basically I'm gonna try to do the 2x 3x thing as much as possible that build the bonus up and then hit that time warp as much as possible man this thing same player shoots again and that's what I like hearing [Music] that one shot in the middle hits the glass lot I need to get out the outline there need to hit my hit my time warp I don't know if it's supposed to be giving me all of those points the rollovers are giving me up there but save come on out Lane I want to get it to the out lane but not that out Lane alright I only had two times mmm I wanted the three times it almost seems like when I'm hitting these rollovers that it's giving me too many hits like it's going too far I don't know but I said whenever I set up the the board I set it up on all of the easiest settings because we're trying to sell this to somebody for their house you know we don't want it to be brutal on them so maybe I said it on something where that's giving me you know advancing it three or four times every time I hit it or something it's got some nice shots in it like just interesting shots slitter right by me you believe this all right on to the next one oh I missed my skill shot there yeah I watched at that time whenever it rolled over them it didn't give me any extra points or anything like that time so you see what I mean it kind of just kept go and so I want a free ball again [Music] snappy pops or snappy people same player shoots again we're gonna roll it people we're gonna roll it okay okay let me let me read up here it's like I'm at four hundred fifty-three thousand already all right so when you roll over those roll overs it says top roll over buttons and bottom ball return lane score and advance the hyperspace value set a hyperspace value is four thousand right now so if I hit one of those buttons I get four thousand points and then if I hit the other one I guess I get another four thousand so what I need to watch is to see if it's working right I need to see if that four goes to the six I guess each time I hit it so the four should go to the eight if I hit both of those buttons I don't know maybe I'm just a lot better than I thought I was [Music] so that's so I got the one and I went to 6000 like it should so I got Bali [Music] I'm still at six up there so now I went to eight because I got the other end line yeah it's working right so if I get both of those rollovers that's gonna go ahead and give me an extra ball so it's just easy to get an extra ball that cracker crack is because I got the highest score so far on high game to date five hundred and eighty four thousand one hundred twenty that's pretty good for me I mean I wasn't even really trying I haven't shown you the time warp yet warp speed I gotta get that balmy people you got ballet again Oh get the bad out lane bounce hmm so if you get over a hundred of 100 oh no I matched yeah I got sixty at the end which matches the 60 on the thing so that's that was the free game you heard let's play it some more definitely a fun game hmm slid it right by me the the pop bumpers are snappy just what I was going for snappy that saucers cool because it spots you whatever letter on the valley that you're I got lucky there we go that a want to get the warp for you hmm some people that hate like it counting down the bonus at the end like that I love it give it in points take as long as you need to to give me all them points Oh got the bad bounce all right I got a hundred thirty thousand that time you gotta do better than that they did a good job with the little Bally sound board - I gotta get that we gotta get the time work for you that's a cool shot Oh almost almost almost Time Warp here we come there we go yeah making all them points give another letter Oh missed my shot if you look that red post is a little bit out in the lane there so it's kind of hard to make that shot anyway but you know I can't on one hand say that shots so easy and then on the other hand think that the warp zone shot is too hard you know Minna warp speed time warp oh yeah I got it at the last second give it in points all right I think this is the ball where we do the warp speed it's gonna happen people but I want to get the bonus up first well maybe not maybe this one the play field is really well laid out like they did it they did a damn good job of designing it in my opinion oh man come on I matched again okay we're gonna try another game I want to want to hit that time warp oh it's a scary shot it's hard to get that where it won't kick the ball up to the glass people that Center shot there [Music] let's let it right by me on you soccer come on there we go I already had that one number Mon Time Warp all right folks well there you go I never hit the time-warp but you get the point look at that damn game boy that's a good-looking game oh this is one of the absolute coolest of the the early Bally ones the kiss ones pretty cool too but this one's more fun than the kiss one it just is simple little lay out on the play field but really fun I like this one a lot I like lost world a lot that's a fun one and my I think my favorite of the early Bally's now I haven't played a lot of the Stern's that are the strange ones in you know everybody the Bally's and the Stern's are real similar but I think my favorite of the early Bally's that I played this one's a close second but I really like Knight Rider it's really fun this one's fun Knight Riders fun evil Knievel's fun Harlem Globetrotters is pretty fun but it has that double flipper thing that everybody doesn't like but this is this one's definitely up there they did a damn fine job in my opinion now they could have they could have made it a little more unique and everything but really they put together a real solid play field that shoots well and I have nothing but nice things to say about it we were talking in the repair video about the flippers getting those lined up right and so you know I was saying that on some of them they hang a little bit so that you can make the wide shots but with them nice and lined up with the end lanes I didn't have any problem making the the wide shot so if you've got one get it lined up just right with those in lanes where the ball can roll right on that flipper and man it plays fast and spend the little teeny bit of money that it costs to rebuild your flippers because it with nice strong flippers it's just it's fun well there you go that is Bally's super cool super awesome Star Trek pinball machine and I said earlier in 1978 this is a 1979 I don't know why I thought it was 78 79 now by the time you see this video this may have warped off to somebody else's game room we may not even have
