50 some years ago you walk into a room
where everybody's a veteran you
immediately sit down and you got
something in common with everybody this
you know this is this is another level
and through this exceptional tutoring by
Art everybody does something different
and I look back and say who's that guy
in the picture who's that young guy this
was based on my time in Tai Chung Taiwan
I was in the Air Force so I have a
couple pictures and then my dog tag that
was a long time
ago Perkin Center for the Arts is a
multi-disciplinary Arts
institution this program itself is the
Veterans art class does everybody have
something to draw with Okay good uh
there's no cost to them and not only
have we had students participating in
these classes for two years now but now
they have the chance to exhibit their
work through the veterans and active
duty military exhibition here at Perkins
it's like an Awakening it's like a a new
day and something new I hadn't seen
before this exhibition will be up uh
through December 16th in our mortown
location and we hope that the public
will come and visit I started back in
horseback riding with the Wounded
Warrior program so there's Deanie up
there this group is a safe secure space
to be able to come into and find your
own little niche and find something to
work on off of we'll critique it and
give you some ideas for while you're on
break the art that we're doing here and
the way that art has taught us has been
very satisfying and soothing to vets it
really has helped me to do something
like this I would never think in a
million years I was in a different
profession in this and here I am as an
artist and I have to say I became
friends with just about everyone in here
and I think everyone else feels the same
way about everybody it really has come a
long way
