Now to New Jersey tonight, where there is a big shake-up
for the second congressional district race.
Republican incumbent Jeff Van Drew has just conceded.
ABC News has not projected a winner, but his challenger,
Cape May, Democrat Zach Mullock,
holds the lead in this race, 52 to 47 percent, and wins.
With 70% of the votes being counted, as soon
as ABC News officially declares this race, we'll come back to it.
But again, Zach Mullet, poised to win in that.
All right, let's go to Action News reporter Trish Hartman
is live at Cape May at Mullet's headquarters,
where, again, supporters are watching and waiting.
Stay on the ground.
Quite a different atmosphere here
in Cape May tonight compared to how things were in
CIL City where we just left.
We're here at the campaign headquarters of Zach Mullock and shortly
after 10 o'clock Congressman Jeff Van Drew
and then he conceded to challenger Democrat Zach Mullock.
We are here with his supporters and you can see it is a packed room,
lots of energy. We are hearing some live music now. We are waiting
for Zach Mullock to come out shortly to address the crowd.
We're also told that a special guest is on the way here.
So we are waiting to hear from them.
But Congressman Jeff Van Drew came out unexpectedly.
And you could tell from the room that they were surprised.
His supporters, they were gassed.
There's not even people shouting no when he said that he had conceded.
People were watching the results
and hoping that Jeff Van Drew would come back.
And it just did not happen.
Now, ABC has not called this race yet.
The fact that Congressman Van Drew has conceded,
certainly a shocking development tonight.
So again, we are waiting here for Zach Mullock to come out.
But let's listen in a little clip
of Jeff Andrews' concession speech from earlier tonight.
So I say to all of you, never give up.
This journey just begins.
God's been so good to me.
I've been in elected office.
I've been a dentist.
I had a successful practice.
I have a wonderful family.
There's nothing to be sad about.
I made decisions and I stand by them and I'm proud of them.
Thank you.
Again, we are waiting on Zach Mullock,
the mayor of Cape May, the presumed next congressman for
the 2nd congressional district of New Jersey to come out
and address the crowd here in Cape May.
All right, Trish, thank you.
