Two fraternities at Drexel University
are now under suspension following reports of sexual
misconduct and hazing.
Action News reporter Cheyenne Corrine is live on campus now
with the details and response from the school. Cheyenne.
Hi, Sarah. Well, both of those fraternities,
their names are Pi Kappa Phi and Lambda Chi Alpha,
and they now are under interim suspension while Drexel University
investigates potential claims of sexual misconduct and also hazing.
The university says that consistent with their practice,
this matter will be reviewed in coordination with Drexel Student
Conduct, Office of Civil Rights Compliance and Drexel Police. They
then will determine the appropriate next steps based on those findings.
Now, while under this interim suspension,
the fraternities are under suspension.
Restrictions on their activities. This includes new member activities
and events involving alcohol pending the outcome of the investigation.
In a statement Drexel wrote, Drexel is committed
to maintaining a safe learning environment for all students.
The university does not tolerate sexual misconduct.
And Drexel went on to say that they are providing students
with support services and also proper channeling
for reporting such as their anonymous tip line.
Now we also have reached out to both of those fraternities
for a statement, but we are still waiting to hear back.
We're live at Drexel University.
