The midterm election results are still coming in this morning,
but they already show a Democratic wave across the country.
Democrats want control of both chambers of Congress,
the House, and the Senate,
delivering a scathing rebuke to President Trump.
Anger over the cost of living, inflation, and the war with Iran
led voters to the polls and shifted that balance of power.
Now, there were several big races in our area,
including, well, let's start with the top one.
The governor of Pennsylvania, Democratic incumbent Josh Shapiro,
defeated Republican challenger Stacey Garrity.
Who is the state treasurer?
Now, ABC News called the crucial race
for Pennsylvania's 1st District overnight.
Democrat Bob Harvey defeated incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick,
a former FBI agent who has held the seat for five terms.
Democrats also flipped Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District.
In the Lehigh Valley, Bob Brooks defeated Republican incumbent
Ryan McKenzie, who just won the seat two years ago,
and it seems like there will also be a shakeup in South Jersey.
While ABC News has not yet called New
Jersey's second congressional district,
Republican incumbent Jeff Van Drew has conceded
to Democratic challenger Zach Mullock, the Cape May mayor.
Action News reporter Trish Hartman heard
from both of those candidates in that race.
Democrats calling this a historic win.
Cape May Mayor Zach Mullock has claimed victory here in Cape May.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew conceding around 10 p.m.
He was seeking a fifth term in Congress.
Now, this is a district that has voted red
in the past several elections.
Van Drew has won re-election pretty easily in previous elections.
Governor Mikey Sherrill was here as the mayor of Cape May celebrated,
showing her support for Mullock.
And we heard from Zach Mullock as he claimed victory
We also heard from Jeff Van Drew just after he conceded.
I have never been more hopeful for the future
and for the future of South Jersey because of all of you.
First priority when you take office?
Of course, cost of living is big. We have to end the war.
We have to end the tariffs. That's going to bring down the cost.
I came into Congress with Jeff Van Drew.
That's true.
And this is a full circle moment
because he came into Congress on a blue wave.
So I say to all of you, never give up.
This journey just begins.
There's nothing to be sad about.
I made decisions, and I stand by them, and I'm proud of them.
Van Drew says he's not sure what he'll do now.
He says he doesn't want to blame anyone for his loss,
including President Donald Trump.
Mullah said he wouldn't be in this position,
wouldn't be running for Congress,
if it wasn't for Donald Trump.

Seats flipped in our area.
We're part of a wave of change across the country. Democrats
won control of the House and Senate,
along with several governor races in historically red states.
Action News reporter Catherine Scott joins
us live in the studio with more on that.
Good morning, Catherine.
Good morning, guys.
Leading up to the elections,
we talked to voters about the issues driving them to the polls.
ABC News voter polling shows voters
were frustrated with the state of the economy.
We also heard concerns about corruption
in government and the war in Iran,
issues that have fueled this blue wave
as Democrats take unified control of Congress.
Results rolling in from the midterm elections look very blue.
Democrats projected to win key races,
delivering a major blow to President Trump
and Republicans in Washington.
The American people have rebuked the depravity,
corruption, and incompetence
of the failed lame-duck President Donald J. Trump.
Democrats clinched the Senate.
Adam Hamilton projected
to be the first Democratic senator in Kansas since 1932.
James Tallarico projected to become
the first Democratic senator in Texas in more than 30 years.
We just took back Texas.
More projected Senate wins for Democrats in Iowa,
North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio.
In Maine, Democrat Troy Jackson defeated
longtime Republican Senator Susan Collins,
who was represented Democrat-leaning Maine for decades.
In a race drawing national attention early this morning in Michigan,
progressive Abdul El-Sayed was projected to win.
Democrats took the House.
Hakeem Jeffries now set to make history
as a nation's first black speaker.
From sea to shining sea,
the American people have spoken and made clear they've had enough
of the extremism, enough of the corruption.
Midterm elections are often difficult for the president's party.
In a late night phone interview with Fox News,
President Trump said voters simply didn't
like the candidates and he did not consider
the elections to be a personal defeat.
We'll hear much more from the president. Thank you, Catherine.
The Democratic Socialist Movement in the city
of Philadelphia earned an easy victory.
Democratic State Representative Chris
Rabb defeated independent Dennis Mahoney
by nearly 90 points in Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District.
Rabb replaces the retiring Representative Dwight Evans,
becoming Philadelphia's first Democratic Socialist in Congress.
Democratic Congressman Brendan Boyle won re-election in Pennsylvania's
second congressional district, including much of Montgomery County.
He soundly defeated Republican challenger Jessica Arriga.
Congressman Boyle will return to Washington
for his sixth term on Capitol Hill.
In New Jersey, Senator Cory Booker will retain
his seat to represent the Garden State in Washington.
The Democrat defeated Republican challenger Justin Murphy.
Democrat Donald Norcross won reelection in New Jersey's first
congressional district defeating Republican challenger Damon Galdo.
Norcross will serve a seventh full term beginning in January.
Voters in Collingswood,
New Jersey are raising a glass to alcohol sales.
People in the borough voted on a referendum that would allow
a limited number of liquor licenses for local bars and restaurants.
The unofficial results mean Collingswood would
be eligible for four licenses.
It ends the borough's century-old tradition as a dry town.
