Prof. Klaus Leisinger on “The art of leading” – EFSC

When discussing and determining the appropriate personality features of business leaders, we can learn from Erich Fromm’s wisdom. In his public opening lecture to the Second InternationaI Erich Fromm Research Conference Leisinger focuses on two aspects, Fromm’s concept of man and his understanding of love.

With regard to Fromm’s concept of love, his conclusion is: “What makes Erich Fromm’s concept different and more valuable is the combination of care, sense of responsibility, respect for others and knowledge. Fromm’s ‘sane’ man is a more comprehensive concept that a ‘virtuous’ man or an ‘honorable businessman’.” The reflection of the consequences of Erich Fromm’s ideas about a sane society and sane human beings is something usually not taught in Business Schools – and yet immensely important for a sane society with companies competing with integrity and led by sane men and women.

We kindly thank the Karl Schlecht Foundation for their generous funding of the conference and its documentation.
