Jupiter is the first planet to appear in the solar system. It is named after the great ancient Roman god Jupiter.
Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun and the most giant planet in the solar system.
Jupiter has twice the mass of the other planets in the solar system combined and is approximately 11 times the width of the Earth.
Jupiter has no solid surface. Jupiter is a gaseous planet with gas components, mainly hydrogen and helium. Jupiter has a liquid core because if it had a solid core, it would be about the size of the Earth.
Jupiter has a feature called the Great Red Spot. It is a crimson-brown storm that has raged for more than 300 years with winds of up to 400 miles per hour.
Jupiter has more than 79 moons, most of the solar system's planets. The four largest moons discovered by Galileo in 1610 are called the Galilean Satellites. It includes IO, Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa.
A day on Jupiter is about ten earth hours, while a year on Jupiter takes about 12 earth years.
Jupiter has an incredible gravitational pull that affects seven other planets. This great gravity attracts comets and asteroids so that they don't crash into inner planets like the Earth.
