Why is Venus called Earth’s Evil Sister?
Earth and Venus are twins because they are similar in size , density and gravity . They are made up of silicate rocks. You would think they would have turned out very similar but what happened along the way, they went two very different paths.
On Venus, what happened is its large, thick carbon dioxide atmosphere is driving a greenhouse effect. In fact, it is so hot on Venus that you can melt lead.
The temperature on the surface of Venus is more than 900oF (475oC).
Venus is also covered in a 15-mile-thick layer of chlorine gas and sulfuric acid clouds.
Venus Facts
1. A day on Venus is about 243 earth days, but a year on Venus is only 225 earth days. Thus a day on Venus is longer than its one year.
2. Venus has a solid surface covered with volcanoes, fissures, and dome-like mountains, with vast volcanic plains and vast ridged plateaus.
3. Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system.
4. Venus is permanently covered by thick clouds of sulfuric acid that smell like rotten eggs.
5. Venus was the first planet discovered by spacecraft.
6. Venus was the first planet where our spacecraft reached the surface.
7. Venus has the Sun rising in the west and setting in the east.
