Artemis I is the first test flight for the mega-rocket space launching system and the Orion spacecraft.

On board is a mannequin called Commander Moonikin Campos. The mannequin wears a next-generation spacesuit known as the Orion crew survival system.

Moonikin Campos is equipped with sensors that will provide data to help protect astronauts on future Artemis missions.

Why is this mannequin called Moonikin Campos? Because it is named after NASA’s Mexican-American electrical engineer Arturo Campos. He played a vital role in the safe return of 3 astronauts of Apollo 13.

On April 13, 1970, Arturo Campos received a midnight phone call from NASA. Upon his arrival at the space center in Houston, Arturo Campos learned that an oxygen tank of Apollo 13's service module had broken. The supply of power, light, and water to the service module was lost, making three astronauts trapped in a damaged spacecraft about 200,000 miles from Earth. Arturo Campos found a way to divert enough power from the lunar module to the command and service module's instrumentation system so that the astronauts of Apollo 13 returned to Earth safely.
