The Moon is, on average, 238,855 miles (384,400 kilometers) far away from Earth, aka Lunar distance.

This is just the average distance between the Moon and the Earth because the Moon's orbit is elliptical. So the furthest distance from the Earth to the Moon is 405,696 km (252,088 miles). The shortest distance from the Earth to the Moon is 363,104 km (225,623 miles).

The distance between Earth and the Moon can fit 30 planets the size of Earth or the rest of the Solar system planets except Mercury. You might be surprised by this.

The speed of light is 300,000 kilometres per second, so it only takes 1.3 seconds for light to travel from the Earth to the Moon. In other words, the Earth is 1.3 light-seconds far away from the Moon.

Here are a few fun facts about time to the Moon.

- If you drive a car at highway speed, it will take you about 145 days to get to the Moon.
- The Apollo 11 spacecraft spent more than three days to take three astronauts, i.e. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, to the Moon.
- The Luna 1 unmanned spacecraft took only about 34 hours to get to the Moon.
- NASA's New Horizons spacecraft took only 8 hours and 35 minutes to get to the Moon.
