Restoring Tower Hill, the 18th-century cottage in Pembrokeshire
Tower Hill is an 18th-century cottage in the heart of St Davids (the UK's smallest city), but only a 10-minute walk from the Coastal Path. In 1965, the Landmark Trust recognized the significance of the site of Tower Hill. It stands on the hill edge close to the medieval gatehouse and overlooks the ancient city with its cathedral and the Bishop's Palace.
The Landmark Trust is a British building conservation charity founded in 1965 by Sir John and Lady Smith. It rescues buildings of historic interest or architectural merit and then makes them available for holiday rental.
In keeping with these beautiful ancient values, the Trust bought the property and started its plan to protect the treasure it represented.
In this video, contractor Steve Kind was responsible for renovating Tower Hill with a blend of antique and contemporary furniture, ceramics, and paintings by local artists. There were hardwood floors. Quarry roof slates were laid. New toilets and showers were also installed, and the kitchens were renovated. The place was decorated both inside and outside. Today, Tower Hill is a popular vacation destination for tourists.
