This report is absolutely laughable
as a recent article makes a wild claim about a
much-hyped Vikings rookie that seems
to be getting more involved each week, making this
report all the more ridiculous.
But first, these defensive rankings are completely astounding
with how dominant this Brian Flores
unit has been.
We're going to break it down all of that in
this episode of Vikings Digest, but first,
we are getting so close to hitting our goal
of 5,500 subs before we kick off against the
Colts tomorrow afternoon, so if you're part
of the 89% of viewers who are not yet subscribed,
If you want to help us reach that goal,
as well as getting closer to eclipsing Bengals Digest,

so you don't miss any of the episodes when they drop.
With that, let's hop right into the first topic of the video,
which is the Vikings sweep the defensive rankings.
As PFF put out a tweet recently, going over all
the categories where the Minnesota Vikings are ranked very high,
where you can see there in scoring defense,
EPA play allowed, success rate allowed,
pass success rate allowed red zone convert rate
third down convert rate points per drive series
convert rate completion percentage allowed passer
rating allowed passing touchdowns allowed and
pressure rate all of which ranking first across
the entire league i know that is an absolute
laundry list of things where the Vikings defense is ranked first
but it just goes to show how
dominant this defensive unit has been not just
in one part of the defense but on all fronts where
you look at the secondary they're locking down receivers
and they're getting turnovers look at
the linebackers they're making sure those running backs
are not getting to that second level and
they're holding it down in the middle of the field
and you look at the trenches well they're basically
making sure those running backs aren't even getting
to those got linebackers in the second level
as well as getting through
that pressure rate getting it absolutely through the roof and Dallas
Turner absolutely feasting on quarterbacks Andrew Van Ginkle doing
his thing Jake Golday also was a
guy that is getting more involved that we're going
to touch on later on then you also have
Caleb Banks who's getting better
and better every week Dominic Orange who's making big plays then of
course Jalen Redmond he's the big guy and then you
also get Blake Cashman some of the other linebackers
a bit more involved as well in that pass rush
as well where we see that with the stunts that
Brian Flores likes to do where he just crashes
the line of scrimmage with eight guys and loads the
box where you have a couple stunts where some
of those defensive linemen are going over the edge
Blake Cashman kind of goes in initially, pulls out,
and then attacks right away again off that
stunt and his free rusher just right there for the quarterback.
We've seen it a couple times
over the past couple of years,
and I don't doubt that we're going to see it a lot more
on Sunday as Brian Flores is going
to hopefully put Daniel Jones in an absolute blender,
contain Jonathan Taylor as much as it's going
to suck for my fantasy scores because I do have
Jonathan Taylor. So hopefully at least he has a decent game.
If he scores a touchdown and runs
for 90 yards i'm okay with that as long
as minnesota wins by a score of like 21 to 7 or
something like that if that's the only touchdown indy scores i'm
at least happy and if the vikings
end up winning that game even 10 to 7 at least we got
a w at the end of the day but going on even
further with this offense you look
at the colts offense where they are decimated with injuries
they are decimated in spirits right now where they
are also going to be looking very hungry
to try and upset us at home as well
and what could potentially be a trap game with how minnesota is
being so heavily favored but you know Brian Flores is going to try
and have something to say about
that where he's going to bring the pressure all game long try
and expose this Colts offensive line
and see what weaknesses he can exploit
so we can make Daniel Jones just absolutely scramble for
his life and have to throw it either out of bounds check downs
or right into the bread basket
of our defenders to try and continue making
this defense even more dominant as they are undoubtedly
the best defense in the NFL
but let us know your guys's thoughts down in the comments below about
all the stats that Minnesota's defense is ranked first
in it's absolutely crazy when you look at
it all just kind of laid out there where they
are just absolutely crushing it all across the board
all positions everyone is showing up
and Brian Flores knows how to get the absolute best out of
these defenders let us know down in the comments below
that's going to take us into the second
topic of the day which is the main topic
and that is this wild Jake Golday report as Sports
illustrated put out an article recently talking
about nine second round rookies already falling
short of early season hype
and when it got to the minnesota vikings they highlighted jake gold day
saying that minnesota vikings linebacker jake gold
day looked outstanding throughout the preseason
but it's notable when a second round rookie isn't
playing any regular season snaps vikings defense
coordinator brian flores has put him on the field just seven times
but it did go a little bit
further saying it is difficult to crack this 5-0 lineup right now.
Golday also played defensive
end in college before making the transition to linebacker
so it's totally normal for his
acclimation period to take a little bit longer.
And what I think is absolutely ridiculous about
this is we're only five games in and yes
the article is probably being very over reactionary
as far as the rookies that they are already saying
are failing are falling short of expectations or
all the hype from preseason.
We have to remember it's preseason that is when the rookies get their
most opportunities so it's no surprise to see
that rookies are just absolutely going off against
other rookies or guys that are third four string guys
or practice squad guys or guys just even
trying to make a roster spot even on the practice squad where
these rookies are trying to make a
name for themselves they're going to have a chip
on their shoulder obviously they're going to play
their ass off and they're going to look
a lot better than what they will look like in the
regular season because the regular season
is a lot better competition it's all the starters in
there constantly and as well as all
the depth chart positions being filled in where those
starters are going to get that playing time you look
at the interior linebacker position with
Minnesota you got Blake Cashman you got Eric Wilson
and you got um uh Ivan Pace Jr there where Jake
Golday it's a little bit harder for him to kind of get into there
however where he is making an
impact is in the special teams we saw how he's
been able to make an impact with getting in there
on pressures as far as the kicking game in the field goals
and as well as on the return game in
that New Orleans Saints game he got
that punch out where it absolutely helped shift the momentum
for Minnesota and all his teammates were just going absolutely nuts
and all of Minnesota was
going crazy too because we're looking at that saying
this is what a guy that could be a future
star for this team might be looking like
and that could be a very promising floor for what should be
a very high ceiling for him within this Brian Flores unit
that gets the best out of his players
just like we saw with those rankings and as well as him being
so young and so versatile where they
can use him as a very much a swiss army knife in the linebacker
and in the trenches where they kind
of use Josh Metellus as a swiss army knife in the secondary
and in the bit of the deep linebacking
core you can use Jake Golday in the very same aspect just
a little bit closer to the line of
scrimmage where you can have him rotate
in those interior linebacking spots but also as an edge
rusher or as a blitzing edge rusher
or off the inside stunts and things like that where Brian
Flores can just have a field day
and you can tell that what he's doing with Jake Golday the same
as what we saw with Dallas Turner
with Dallas Turner there's probably would have been so many articles
like with how reactionary the league has gotten
in the past couple of years what we saw with JJ
McCarthy on full display with how Minnesota got reactionary
with that where you can't help but
wonder that if Dallas Turner was drafted this past year
and was going through the growing pains or
not the growing pains but just kind of the formulation period
and the growth period that we
saw through his first two seasons these articles will
be going crazy about how he's a first round
bust and falling short of expectations
but Brian Flores is just making sure that they are growing
at the pace that he wants them to and progressing through
their development as players in this league
that could be dominant on a defense that's already
the best in the league so yes it's going to be
very hard to crack that rot
or that depth chart spot to be a full-time starter on a defensive
unit that is the best in the entire National Football League
and has been the best for the
past couple of years if not the best at least top three
or top five it's very hard to make an
argument otherwise so with Jake Golday it's just gonna
be a matter of patience just like Dallas
Turner he had to wait a while Jonathan Grenard
was a Pro Bowl guy that was there and getting paid a
lot of money so it makes sense that he was going
to get more playing time but Dallas Turner made
the most of those opportunities
with Jake Golday I can see it being the exact same thing where he
is just trying to just make an impact in the small plays
that he's getting and just say hey I'm here
to make a name for myself and you're not going to forget
who I am when you go on that field and you
have to face number 41 you are going to remember it
and what we've seen so far is that when he gets
those opportunities it's been very limited
but he has maximized them to the fullest potential
and we saw that in the Saints game
and hopefully we're going to see it even more so maybe probably
mainly in the special teams game
but hopefully he can get some more kind of defensive snaps in there
and get really involved get some turnovers get
some pressures they're kind of get some more
confidence going to show that hey this guy
is not going to be falling short of any expectations
it's just only week six or going
into week seven i should say week six for the vikings because of
the bye but it's so early on in the season
so early in his career that we just have to be a
little bit patient i know a lot of you guys
are probably already in the comments going we're not
worried about it we see it on the field every sunday
of the impact that he's making in a short
in a small capacity and these guys
are just absolutely out to lunch and losing their mind
and that's what makes it all the more ridiculous
but makes it even better once Jake Goldie absolutely
just bursts onto the scene with a breakout game
that I think if it doesn't happen this year he's
absolutely going to have one next year where
the entire league is going to know who he is the same
way that Dallas Turner made that impact very early
on in his career with the limited opportunities
he got I know with him being a first round guy he already had
that kind of notoriety and that hype
going into it and people knowing
who he was but still he had to make a name for himself early on
and he absolutely did that so I'm hoping Jake Goldie can
do that and I don't doubt that Brian
Flores is going to mold him into one
of the premier linebackers for this Vikings defense
for years to come and hopefully
for a very long time where they have an absolute stud where once
that torch eventually gets passed off
from Blake Cashman to Jake Goldie he is absolutely
ready for it and I see a very similar thing happening here
with what we saw with Dallas
Turner and Jonathan Grenard happening with Blake Cashman
and Jake Goldie because Cashman was on a
podcast recently saying how he has more football
behind him than he does in front of him so he's
just trying to make the most of it
while he can hopefully that leads to taking a pay cut next year
so that he can continue mentoring Jake Goldie
and as well as just continue to be a dominant force
and leader on this team but again that remains
to be seen hopefully it all works out and I hope that
Jake Golday continues to just make the most
of the limited opportunities he has so that when he gets
a chance to go into a big game make a big moment later
on in the season whether it's towards the
end of the regular season
or in the playoffs he will absolutely rise to the occasion but let us
know down in the comments below if you thought
this article was absolutely insane or if you
thought that hey maybe because we haven't seen
so much of them and that it makes you give us good
reason for them to have this reaction
but i feel like a lot of people are going to be on my side
where we see what Jake Golday is doing we're very excited
to see what more comes of it and we
are not thinking that he's falling short
of any expectations let us know down in the comments
below is that's going to do it for this episode
of Vikings Digest again thank you guys so much
for liking subscribing hitting that bell icon
