This Is a VERY Interesting Trade Development for the Vikings...

Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Minnesota Vikings are exploring trade options to strengthen their offense before the NFL deadline. The primary focus is acquiring a blocking tight end to replace Josh Oliver and potentially upgrading the running back position with a high-profile acquisition to transform the team into legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
This is a very interesting trade development
for the Vikings as Tom Pelissero just dropped
a huge nugget on what positions the Vikings could
be targeting before the NFL trade deadline,
which brings a list of even more interesting
possible candidates when looking at recent
trade reports.
We're going to break it down all of that in
this episode of Vikings Digest, but first,
we are just over 100 subscribers away
from hitting our goal of 5,200 subs before the
weekend fully kicks in, so if you're part of the 89% of viewers
who are not yet subscribed
and you want to stay up to date on all things Vikings,

and the bell icon so you don't miss any of the episodes when they drop.
with that we'll top right into the first topic of the video
which is the Vikings trade needs so
recently on KFAN 100.3 like he does every Thursday Tom Pelissero
was on the show and when he was
asked by Ben Leber about certain things
that the Vikings could be targeting Ben Leber had a really
good question to start off kind of like
the trade talks basically for the Vikings there was a lot of
things that they talked about but the trade stuff
is exactly what we're going to be focusing on
where Ben Leber was asking him
so can you rank your priority list if you were to make a move
that is a big if the Vikings were to make a move
which is a big if there's no guarantee they're
going to make a move before the deadline
so we have interior defensive line interior offensive
line wide receiver and running back
and what Tom Pelissero did kind of close it out we'll start
with what he closed it out with because it kind
of encompasses it all where he says you can always
use big bodies in there I would say
those are probably the priorities edge and interior D
line which I thought he was up to lunch with I think
because I don't necessarily think they need
any necessarily uh have edge help
and with the run game they're doing pretty good on that side
of things where they're locking running backs down
no one's really having any crazy games against
them so they're all right there
and on the edge rush we're fine with Dallas Turner Andrew Van
Ginkel and Kyle Van Noy, but he says the tight ends
and the running back to me would be the ones and
as far as what type of tight end that is the biggest question of all
because we got T.J. Hockenson
but we lost Josh Oliver, the best blocking tight end
in the game and that is where Tom
Pelisseroy was concerned saying that blocking tight end
is a big deal, there's not a ton of those guys
out there I can see somebody like that like
that in Charlie Kolar's case but having potential
interest in and he did mention Charlie Kolar
but I didn't cover, I didn't put that as a quote in
there just because I don't necessarily see him leaving LA even
though there is possible fire
sale mode I think that that is someone
that they just extended to a big-time contract that's a lot
of money for Minnesota to take on especially
when they only need a short-term solution for Josh
Oliver being gone for the rest of the season
which brings me to some other interesting options
that I think the Vikings should be looking at I know
this one might be a little bit of a far cry
because he's within the division
but Cole Kmet would be a perfect blocking tight end for the
Vikings to go and get, he's going into nearly
the last year of his, on the second last year of his
deal right now so Minnesota can kind of use him
on a short-term deal have him for this year and
then deal him out next year to somebody where you can get something
for him and turn that into some
draft picks while you have Josh Oliver back and healthy
or you just have him as a replacement
T.J. Hockenson but at 27 years old it's a decent possibility
however I think his best years might
be behind him even though Chicago
is using him pretty well I would love Colson Loveland because
I think Chicago is criminally under utilizing him right now
however I think because he's so young
they don't want to give up on him that soon especially
because he's on a rookie contract
and he's going to be getting that big one soon
however if they're not utilizing him they might
be able to trade him before the end of his rookie contract
that's where we can kind of cash in on
it or you let the Bears kind of give him a lower end contract
because if they're not utilizing him
the way that they should be then
when they give him a cheap contract as far as his first real one
after his rookie one that is where Minnesota can kind of swoop in there
and get him at a discount
and have him play with the rest of that contract with Minnesota
which would be absolutely awesome
to see because it would be on a discounted price
but again i think Cole Kmet is the one here that
would be the most likely even
though he's getting more usage than Loveland is this year i think with
Loveland being younger that is why they would give up
on Kmet more than him however within the
division that's going to be a little bit tough
which brings me to my second option that i'm
looking at and that is Charlie Warner
who's currently with the Atlanta Falcons he's having
a pretty solid year for them as well
and he would be a good blocking tight end because he's going
into the second last year of his last year of his deal right now
so he would be eligible for UFA in
2027 and that is the perfect timing for Minnesota
because 5.7 million it's not exactly cheap but
it's not overly expensive as well in Minnesota
with the spots that they're in right now they
need that to solidify this running game
or to help this running game kind of get really kind
of staying efficient and having
these 90 100 yard games every single week and not have 60 70 40 in
some cases so you won't get a blocking tight end
that would give you the the support that you need
there as well as in pass protection too
so that is where i think Minnesota should go as far as
the blocking tight end side of things i really like
Charlie Warner you're bringing him in here on it
when he only has a couple years left
of his contract you can kind of bring him in on a one
year rental like he did with Cam Robinson last year i know
a lot of people are already in the
comments if they haven't already saying go
and get an offensive line and why are we talking about
these other positions but the way the offensive line
is playing right now i don't want to jump
on the panic button just yet I know with the injuries
and all that that can still pile up
and everything as well and with like Ocho
and Unk were saying on Nightcap the other night where
they were saying that that next man up can only apply
to so many positions you can only have so
many next men up to be able to fill in that spot
or that are actually good enough to fill that spot
and that's where I think a lot of people are scared
with with Minnesota however I think that
right now they are okay we're not panicking yet
on the offensive line we still are doing pretty
okay given all the circumstances Ryan Vandermark
Joe Huber stepped up really well on last Sunday
against the New Orleans Saints
so I'm not ready to panic just yet on that but what did also pop
out to me that was very interesting was what he said about
the running backs saying I would say
running back is up there depending on how they're able
to function once Jordan Mason gets back I
would certainly think that's a level that there would
be have to be a level of interest there
for Jordan Mason and that is where I think a lot
of really interesting questions arise because we
know Jordan Mason's coming back from the bye
this at least gives Minnesota a week or two or three
to kind of figure out where they're at with this run game
if it'll work with Jordan Mason you have
a couple games to kind of figure that out
and as well as with Aaron Jones is healthy you have a
couple of weeks to try that out
and see if he's going to be able to stay healthy over that time
and that is where by the time it gets
to trade deadline you will see where you are at with how
Jordan Mason's reintegrating with how Aaron Jones
is staying healthy to kind of reassess what you
want to do at running back
and now a lot of people are going to ask well what do you do at running
back and i'm going to go with a big swing here
is that's going to take us into the second topic of
the day which is the Jonathan Taylor trade buzz
and now i know a lot of people saw our show earlier
and they were saying that well this would
not be possible no way it happens well USA Today and a
lot of other outlets are kind of reporting
that Jonathan Taylor is a name to watch for on the
trade block and i was surprised as you guys
to see this because i would absolutely love him
in Minnesota I currently have him as my fantasy running back
in one of my leagues I absolutely
love it he won me a league a couple years ago in 2021
which was a great year for him where he was
an absolute monster and he's doing really good this year as well
and I think he could do even
better in Minnesota as far as the article
was saying he says that this could be a Christian
McCaffrey level deal waiting to happen keep watching
with me I'd suggest the Colts aren't
nearly as good as a two and three record
that includes wins over then winless and depleted
Texans team followed by a victory over Washington's
third string rookie quarterback and it would also
be as well if owner Jim Irsay or Chris Gordon decides
to pull the plug on a team that clearly has holes
and is about to develop more dealing Taylor would
be the right move to initiate an overhaul and maybe
GM Chris Ballard's last act of service to the organization
and as far as the contract side of
things too if you're thinking about Taylor
which wouldn't be available after signing a two-year
44 million dollar extension in August think again
as the Colts would only take on 10 million dollar
cap hit next year if they deal Taylor in '27 given he has
no guarantees in either uh 2027 or 2028
and when you look at his stats this is a guy
that would be a perfect boost to the Vikings run game
where you look at those numbers they speak
for themselves he had a great year last year even
better year the year before that had a down year
because of injuries and some other inconsistencies
as well but then you also have that monster year
in 2021 almost getting to 2,000 yards and that
contract like they were suggesting it was a big one
however there is a possible out there for
Minnesota or to give him a reworked deal
and things like that and he's only 27 he still has a lot of
football left ahead of him as he passed the prime
of his career I don't necessarily say that yet I
think he's still at a very consistent rate right now where he's
on pace to have probably over a thousand
yards i would say 1100 yards right now
if he can keep going at a really good rate and possibly
more so probably even 1200 yards if the colts can kind of stay rolling
but if he goes to minnesota
i guarantee you he puts up 1400 in this short amount
of time that he would be with the team
and yes this would involve dealing one of if not both aaron jones
and jordan mason i think it would
only take one of them in this deal especially
if the colts are looking to take a player and some
draft picks in this case scenario you're paying
aaron jones more he's only on a one-year deal
though however i like the idea of using him
as a veteran rental in this scenario and you deal off
jordan mason for some draft picks
and give up a couple draft picks as well for jonathan taylor
you bring in jonathan taylor and you have a tandem of jonathan taylor
and aaron jones aaron jones is
a captain on this team you're not dealing him
and as well as him being in that locker room it'll be
great for the run game and it'll give taylor
a little bit of reprieve you don't have to make him
be a 25 touch bell cow i know he would like to be i know
a lot of fantasy owners would love him to be
but in this minnesota offense that would
also conserve a lot of years as well and mileage you
see with Saquon Barkley how that mileage
is really wearing on him Minnesota wouldn't do that with
Jonathan Taylor where Jonathan Taylor
is even more healthier than Saquon Barkley is so if you bring
him in a lot less health issues a bit more youth
and as well as having a lot more football ahead
of him and knowing that your run game is not going to have
so much workload put on him this makes so
much sense for Minnesota where a lot of people
are going to say why overpay for a running back
running backs are a dime a dozen yada yada yada
but we see the value of a great running back look
at Seattle this year without Kenneth Walker
and look at Kansas City this year prime exhibit A you
look at the Eagles with that first year
with Saquon after he left the Giants exhibit B right there so
if you bring Jonathan Taylor
into Minnesota you deal with Jordan Mason which would suck because
he just got he would just be getting back from injury
but if that run game isn't the way it
should be moving that is where Minnesota I think almost has
to pull the trigger on this go out
call Chris Ballard call Chris Ballard and say listen let's try
and make a deal here we'll give you
Jordan Mason and some picks in exchange
for Jonathan Taylor we'll happily take him because
right now in this run game
of Minnesota Jonathan Taylor you can extend him to a big contract
however you can only give him 16 17 touches a game
and get a lot more years out of him rather
than having a bunch of explosive stats to really go off of it
and just be like yeah this is
validating the money spent it'll piss off a lot
of fans in the start but if you're getting a lot
more years out of them rather than the initial kind
of mileage right off the start it'll benefit
the vikings a lot more in the long run than it would
in the short term so let us know in the
comments down below what you guys think about
this move for the vikings do you think that it's
absolutely crazy or do you think that it would
be perfect for minnesota to solidify themselves as a
Super Bowl contender let us know down
in the comments below what your guys thoughts are I
know you guys want us to go and get
an offensive lineman I would love it too but I think right now
we don't have to panic just yet on the offensive line knock
on wood that that stays the case but
let us know down in the comments below
and that's going to do it for this episode of Vikings Digest
I've been your host Griffin take care
