This is the Spark the Celtics Needed...
Oct 7, 2026
This is exactly the spark the Boston Celtics needed, folks, as training camp is about to
come to a close with the Celtics' first preseason game being this Thursday, October 8th against the
Cleveland Cavaliers. But what's going on at training camp at the Citadel in South Carolina?
How does Jomezula have the players looking? How are the players feeling? Are they feeling
confident going into the season? How is Tatum's health? Well, folks, we are going to discuss all
of this here today on Celtics Digest, where I'm your host, Kellen Frangione. It is a pleasure to
be back talking about Celtics basketball as always, closer than we've ever been to real NBA games with
the Boston Celtics. I cannot wait to see what happens in this preseason game on Thursday against
Cleveland. At my time of recording this, the Celtics are still in South Carolina. I assume they're
going to be heading back up north tomorrow or maybe even day of the game in the morning or
something. I'm not entirely sure. And it doesn't seem like they're too worried about that. They're
still practicing, just getting ready, getting shots up. But folks, before I get any further
into this video, if you are extremely confident about the Boston Celtics' performance this season
and you feel like they could go 45 plus wins, 50 plus wins, or even 55 plus wins, well, folks,
I invite you to place a little yes or no contract on that on Calshi, where you are not going against
the sportsbook like a traditional player would do. You are actually going against other users
on the app, folks, where you can buy these yes or no contracts on events across sports, politics,
or even the weather. For example, if you did not want to do the Boston Celtics' total wins this
season, you could pivot to something like the Celtics to be Eastern Conference champions,
where a wager of $25 pays out nearly $182. But folks, that is only on Calshi. And if you are
interested in trying out Calshi, make sure to use our promo code, DigestNBA. It will be in the
description and the pinned comment of this video, and you will get $55 in funds added to your
account when you trade your first $25. Folks, it's a pretty good deal, but only on Calshi,
and only if you use our code, DigestNBA. We greatly appreciate it. If you do, it really
helps out the channel and gives us more resources, ultimately helping us in our goal to become the
largest Boston Celtics community on YouTube, folks. So we really appreciate it, Calshi.
Thank you for sponsoring this video. And back to it. Well, what are we talking about today?
Folks, training camp updates. Most importantly, Joe Mazzulla said the following when he was asked
about this game on Thursday. A classic little Joe Mazzulla answer here, if I do say so myself.
Joe on who will play Thursday in Cleveland. What day is it? Tuesday. We'll cross that path on.
So it seems like Joe Mazzulla doesn't really care about that too much right now. Who knows?
He might even throw out a joke lineup like he unfortunately did in game seven against the
Philadelphia 76ers. He just said, whatever, let's give all the young guys a shot. And it didn't
work. But it seems like he's not too concerned about that right now. And really today, folks,
I just have a variety of quotes for you from training camp. So you can get a feel as well as
some game footage from the Celtics scrimmaging today, which I'm going to show you guys very soon.
But I just want to start with some things where Kada had an interesting little statements that
today saying that I think we're one of the best front courts in the NBA when we're all locked in.
It's just a matter of going out on the court and showing it. And honestly, I agree with Kada. I
think if he continues to take a leap forward this year, along with being paired with Mitch Robinson,
who is going to be an absolute demon on the glass, getting those offensive rebounds,
creating extra possessions, being physical inside. It's very possible. And then, of course,
we have Tatum, who's also a rebounding wing, passing wing, shooting when he can do it all.
Jason Tatum can do whatever you need him to do. And in this clip, with all these footage,
all the footage, sorry, from today's training camp session with the scrimmage,
it's looking like Tatum is back in pretty good form now. We already kind of knew he was.
He already said he's feeling healthy, all of these things. But Tatum had the following to say about
his own health today or about his experience ever since tearing the Achilles when he was asked.
He said, last year was very tough for me. I kind of remember these days of training camp,
and I would just be in the weight room the whole time and watching the team practice.
And it was just so tough to digest. So now being on this side, it's just a different
level of appreciation, you know, getting to be a part of everything, a different type of joy now
than I did in my first eight seasons. I love to hear that from Jason Tatum. I mean,
he's getting his joy. He's getting his feet set and good to play a great season of NBA basketball.
I'm really excited to see what he's going to do with this highest usage rate that he's going to
have on the team, something we've been talking about a lot in past videos, as well as Mike
Conley praising his leadership, and Joe Mazula saying that Tatum is going to have more playmaking
duties this year. There's many exciting things going on with him. So I'm just really excited
to see him playing ball again. And before I get any further, folks,
let me just show you some of some of the clips from today's training camp scrimmage session.
Here it is.
So
as you can see, guys finding their shot. Tatum in rhythm there with a little handoff
from Mitchell Robinson, as well as Mitchell Robinson getting physical inside, getting an
and one something I anticipate us seeing a lot more this year. So honestly, really exciting
footage from training camp. Obviously, it's just a scrimmage. It's what you expect these NBA
players to do. They're going to be scoring. They're going to be looking like they're primed
and ready for a new season. So I'm excited to hear about it. Ada also had another quote that
I think is interesting from today, where he said about the training camp in general, the experience
a lot of film sessions. We've been working out pretty hard, hanging out with each other.
Nothing out of the ordinary, which surprised me a little bit going to the Citadel, which is
a military academy. By the way, we've been treating practice like a playoff environment.
Guys are locked in. And that's what I love to hear, because regular season has not been a
problem for the Celtics in the past five years, as I was covering in this last video from the
other day. But what matters is the playoffs. And if we're facing it, the Celtics have choked in
the playoffs the past two years. Choked. When they had a chance to really make noise,
they haven't lived up to the task. So if they're starting the season already kind of thinking in
that mode, it's not really going to last. It's too long of a season. But it's good to know that
they're already trying to get into that mindset. I'd love to hear that a little more. Tatum on
Mitchell Robinson. I think this is an interesting little anecdote that I also love to hear.
I love Big Mitch. Hilarious guy. And he just brings a different dynamic to our team.
Obviously, his size and his instincts on the defensive end. And obviously, being a lob
threat and how great of a defender and rebounder he is. I had a hard time boxing him out for the
last seven, eight years. I was, as I have said in past videos, opposed to Mitchell Robinson in the
past because I was like, wow, this guy's in the NBA, but he can't shoot free throws. He doesn't
have a high offensive ceiling, whatever. But now that I have appreciated Mitchell Robinson more,
looked into his game a little more, saw what he did for the Knicks in their playoff run.
It's the intangibles. It's the offensive rebounding, the boxing out, the physicality
that is going to make Mitchell Robinson such a positive asset for this Boston Celtics team.
So really excited to see him play as well. Also, another little quote from Bob Manning,
who works for Celtics CLNS Media. He said the following about what they were seeing from Jason
Tatum today in camp. And I thought this was interesting to give us some insight into his
play style for the season. In the workouts today that we saw, he, referring to Tatum, was getting
off the ball quite a bit, cutting, posting up. So does he take advantage of George's playmaking?
Well, George, the guards that they have this season to get off the ball and get some easier looks?
Perhaps. Maybe Jason Tatum will be a little more fluid, running around a little more
instead of controlling the ball. It will be interesting to see, folks. But overall,
that is all I have for you guys today. A few little training camp anecdotes that I thought
were interesting and needed to be discussed. But we are closer and closer to Celtics ball.
This Thursday, October 8th, against the Cleveland Cavaliers is the first preseason game.
And then from there, folks, there's a few more games in the preseason, including one
against the new look Philadelphia 76ers. So really interesting things going on. It's a great time to
be a Celtics fan, as always, folks. And thank you very much for sticking with me here on today's
video. I'm Calum Frangione, your host for Celtics Digest. And I will see all of you guys in the
next video. So thank you very much for watching. Stay tuned here on the channel. We've got a lot
more coming soon.
