Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video discusses a hypothetical trade scenario where the Boston Celtics would acquire young center Jalen Duren from the Detroit Pistons. While the host admires Duren's talent and potential to strengthen Boston's frontcourt, he expresses significant hesitation regarding the cost of the trade, specifically the loss of key rotational players.
No way, they do this as the Boston Celtics are linked to a wild trade that involves an
extremely talented young player in the Eastern Conference and who is this player and what
makes this trade so crazy and well, I'm going to tell you guys all about it here on this
video on Celtics Digest.

This is definitely a player that I would be really interested in having in a Boston Celtics
jersey as he's very young, talented and definitely fits the criteria of the player that the Boston
Celtics would love to have.
So let's take a look at this article that was written up about who this player is and
that is Jalen Duren and this is, this is something that I'm interested in.
I mean the trade that they have, we will talk about that a little bit later and I'll give
you my thoughts, but having Jalen Duren on this team would be fun.
I mean, you know, they have the addition of Mitchell Robinson, they have Namias Keita,
but you add a guy like Duren to this squad, I mean you could only think about the future
because I've told you guys in so many videos that the future after this season, the Celtics
are going to have money to spend in the off season.
And having a guy like this at 22 years old who has an extremely strong frame, very talented
and has very high upside, man, would that be fun?
But let's look at the other side of things because he's been having some contract issues
with Detroit.
We're sitting here in December, nothing is set in stone yet.
So we take a look at this as well as Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are working
on a four year, $160 million plus deal according to Jake Fisher via Bleacher Report, as he
also reports about Assar Thompson's deal that could be done this off season as well.
But again, we're getting close to September here.
We're in August, end of August, a couple more days.
I mean, like I said, we're almost a month and a half until the season starts and nothing
is set in stone yet.
So what are the Detroit Pistons going to do and how will the Boston Celtics be able to
swoop in and maybe pull Duren away from them and do a little side and trade?
But we'll take a look at the start of this as well as, of course, with the bulk of the
NBA all season in the rear view, Duren remains the only all NBA selection from last season
and not currently under contract as discussions between him and the Pistons have yet to result
in a new deal for the 22 year old long term or otherwise.
As last offseason, the big man in Detroit were unable to agree to a rookie scale extension.
One year, a career best regular season and an underwhelming playoff run later.
Here he is and the Pistons are still at odds on his worth as he's the only major name really
still in free agency right now.
But what is there to look forward to and what are the Detroit Pistons going to do?
Well, here's what they could do, right?
They could go ahead and they could talk to Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics as they're
looking for this contract range to be 35 million to 38 million.
And as we looked at the number from that tweet, it was looking about to the 40 million dollars
a year for those four years.
But the Celtics infamously lost one of their superstars early in the all season, so they
probably wouldn't mind getting another one.
As this article states, if the opportunity presented itself.
So in a hypothetical trade, the Celtics get an opportunity.
The Detroit Pistons, excuse me, moved her into Boston in a unique framework that makes
both teams more interesting.
And here are the details of the proposed trade.
So this is what I was talking about earlier in the episode.
This trade makes me a little bit uncomfortable in a couple of reasons for roster reasons
and just because of the player that is involved.
So that's kind of the reason as to why I'm a little bit iffy on this trade.
But having Duran on this team would be fantastic.
So this is the trade that they came up with.
The Celtics receive Jalen Duran via a sign in trade for four year hundred eighty point
seven million dollar contract.
That is a fat contract.
And the Pistons receive Derek White, Sam Hauser and first round picks in twenty seven and
thirty one.
So the one thing that had that this trade that really I do not like is obviously giving
up Derek White.
And I think that Derek White and Jason Tatum's just just what they bring together.
Just that duo is a fantastic duo.
And it doesn't feel like it's the right time to break that duo up.
Maybe with Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, maybe it was time because they were both fighting
to be the number one.
We don't know what we're going to see, yada, yada, yada.
Everything that we've talked about for the last couple of months now.
Derek White brings a different type of play style.
His defensive mentality, everything he does on the defensive side, his catch and shoot
on the threes.
We've seen him go off for 30 plus point games.
We know what he can bring.
He is obviously not a number one guy on a team, but what he brings with the chemistry
that he has with Jason Tatum.
That is worth a lot more than what the numbers may speak when it comes to contracts and to
trading him.
It just does not feel like it's the right time to go ahead and do that.
So it's also about here why both teams do the trade says perhaps seeing no other options
the Pistons move during and pick up a pair of first round picks with two players who
would help them keep pace in the Eastern Conference, obviously with a lot of movement in the East
Conference, really getting a lot better this offseason.
Derek White at 32 would give the Pistons a score with great defense on the wing and they
would be able to have an upgrade from Tobias Harris, but join shooting forces with Duncan
Robinson and Isaiah Joe, which would be an unbelievable amount of three point shooters
on the same team.
And again, in conference trades aren't one that really make me feel too comfortable,
when I feel like the other team is getting a little bit better as well, but the Celtics
would be getting better when it comes to the big men and something that they really need
and which has just been the lack of some pure dominant big men.
Obviously they have a decent amount of them now with Mitchell Robson to me is Kata and
Luka Garza being in the mix being a little bit of a stretch.
But again, Duran is strong.
He's a different type of big and at that age, I could totally understand as to why the package
is what it is.
And Sam Houser kind of been in talks about possibly getting traded, not staying with
the Celtics.
So that's not a name that I'm surprised it's being brought up.
But it also says here that meanwhile, the Celtics would win back many fans hearts after
trading JB to the Sixers as Duran is in the perennial All-Star and All-NBA performer Brown
is, but he's only just coming into his own at 22 as he achieved his first All-Star and
All-NBA nods last season helping the Pistons to a conference best 60 wins and Boston addressed
a key weakness this offseason acquiring Mitch from the New York Knicks and landing Durham
would move Mitch to the backup center, which he could be already this season with me is
Kata.
We have no idea yet, but where he was a lead for the Knicks as they marched to the title
last season while Durham would take over as a starter and give the Celtics a new star
trio around Jason Tatum.
So thinking about that, right?
You fill in a gap with the bigs, but then you look at the guards and starting guards.
Where do you lie?
Then does Peyton Pritchard get the nod at the starting position who comes in and who's
going to step up into that Derek White role?
There's a lot of questions if this trade were to go down exactly this way, but I would love
to know your guys's opinion on this trade and acquiring if we're excuse me, jeez, if
from acquiring during do you like the acquirement of him, but would you let go of Derek White
or is there a different type of package that you would love to see to come and get during
for the Boston Celtics, but you guys let me know flood those comments.
