Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe San Diego Padres have experienced a dramatic turnaround, moving from a low point in the season to being tied for the NL Wild Card spot. With playoff momentum building, the team is now focused on securing a favorable position and managing their roster health heading into the postseason.
This is a huge turning point for the Padres.
It's bedlam. It's anarchy.
This season has become more explosive than the Manhattan Project.
So, what's going on, everybody?
Christian Pedersen back with another episode of Padres Digest,
the show where my boy Curtis, out there, shout-out Curtis,
definitely said I was an idiot for trying
to mess with the lineup in my video yesterday.
So if you want to go back and watch that, that's
why I always say like, subscribe, comment, share.
We've got a bunch of consistent stuff going
on where sometimes I make dumb mistakes, sometimes I don't.
Nonetheless, we have to talk about how explosively good
this Padres offense and team has been the last couple of weeks
because it has resulted in this.
You're tied. You're tied for the wild card.
First off, crazy that we are just even in the playoffs considering what
the bottom, like the highs and lows of every baseball season,
what the bottom of this looked like was bad.
We were like five and a half out.
I was talking about trading everybody. Joe Musgrove's elbow exploded.
wasn't coming back etc etc etc doom the globe uh kwanzaa
and feliciano by the team officially team
immediately catches absolute fire we are now tied three-way
for the nl wild card nice thing here
is that like sans us entirely imploding
and losing every single game for the remainder of the season
Padres are in the playoffs uh
and are going to come into the playoffs with a fair amount of
momentum but even though we can sort of breathe
a sigh of relief knowing that we are headed back
to the playoffs us being in this position
is a really interesting one given two layers here one
being that there is a definite chance of us having
a home series home field advantage through the
wild card which yes please are you kidding me packing
that state packing Petco the way we can
to get the vibes we can to be like yeah
this team played better splits home and road this year than
we have in recent years
but nonetheless i would still take any home field advantage we can ever
get the second thing
though that is really interesting in all of this is going to be the
concept behind the tiebreakers
and the scoreboard watching is now going to be how do we play out all
of these different scenarios of well if it's
the cubs versus the phillies the cubs have that one
If it's us versus the Phillies, the Phillies have that one.
If it's us versus the Padres, the Cubs have that one.
If it's all three of us, the Cubs have it.
So the Padres are in a disadvantage,
given that we lost all of our regular season series
and run differentials.
And we did not play well, particularly against either of these squads.
You remember part of the valley that was the low point of this season
was us losing by a bazillion and a half runs to the Cubs
when they were still swinging despite
our backup catcher being out there throwing meatballs like
just totally disengaged i hate them
for that and the phillies have always murdered us
that way yeah a couple of bad series lead to us being
in a situation where we need to if we want
that home series if we want home field advantage we need
to keep our foot firmly down on the gas
pedal i'm not gonna do a video saying oh we shouldn't keep
our foot on the gas pedal we
should do load management pull our pitchers i'm
not saying anything like that but it is
it's a curious spot to be in of like ride
the momentum you know hit the hit the gas pedal and
really try to crush it i
also think it's interesting in all of this to look at what's
coming up on the schedule for us,
but also for all parties involved.
We still got the rest of our Marlins series,
which that was fun to eliminate them.
I'm looking forward to the rest of that.
But then Dodgers and Diamondbacks.
You can see the other two there.
The Phillies have Mets, Brewers, Rays.
The Cubs have Reds, Marlins, Red Sox.
I think it's kind of interesting for Cubs
to finish with an interleague.
Quick thoughts going top to bottom here.
The Cubs, I will be curious to see
what kind of fight that they get out of the you know
the reds i think hate them anyway because
of it's in the division and so they're gonna get
their best shot marlins will the marlins collapse
given that they have been now officially eliminated
from the playoffs or do the marlins
want to play spoiler
and then the red sox in boston yeah yeah yeah i i'm unclear about what
the heated rivalry nature of that one
is but assuming that the Cubs are going to be going
full tilt on all of these Phillies at the Mets I saw
a blooper reel of the Mets having a billion
dollars hanging out in their left field between third short
and left field none of them caught a
little pop-up so Mets are a disaster
that's winnable Brewers are really tough and I don't
you know I don't know if the Brewers and the Dodgers
and the teams that have clinched like
that are going to be resting guys and taking it easy
but interesting to see there and then the
Rays are, given our experience
with the Rays, the Rays are not an easy out. For the
Padres, the Marlins, I'm confident that we can finish
this one off. Then Dodgers and Diamondbacks.
That Diamondbacks series, not nearly
as dangerous and meaningful
lurking as it was
a week or two ago, but
the Dodger one, to me, is going to be
really interesting. Same way
that, to me, the Phillies versus Brewers
is going to be interesting, because I am unsure
of what
the vibe is going to be on
this. Now, maybe I need to just pop over to
Phillies and Dodgers digest and watch there
but i'm not pitching any of that i hate those channels
the same way i hate those teams
but it'll be really interesting to see because at the Dodgers
in Chavez Ravine the Dodgers are fairly dismissive
of the Padres existence and are like oh it's not
a rivalry we don't care about you and whatever
but the Padres are very much bleep the Dodgers
full tilt all the time
and so if the Padres roll into Chavez with a ton of energy and catch a
Dodgers team that is trying
to you know get guys rested healthy clean up their rotation get
everything exactly where they need
to be that seems like maybe that's a more winnable series
than it was a week or two ago if the Padres
were only a game up on the Diamondbacks and like
you know the Dodgers might be like oh there's
our chance to knock the Pads out of playoff
contention i i am unsure of all we got one more pass
and i got a pass and a half still through
the rotation so i have questions still remaining about Casey Mize
and Pavetta and all the other
dudes that i'm trying to figure out
who's going to be our three or what is the order between two
and three because Robbie Ray is going to go in one
of these playoffs here but nonetheless a lot
is still on the line and a lot is on the line
for a couple of different teams and so i will be
incredibly interested to see how this plays out
for all of this uh my my plead and ask to the
Padres would be ride the wave
but please do not burn any arms ride the wave but don't get don't
spend all of the bullets don't be too emotionally invested
so much so that we get to the playoffs
Find the right medium zone where we get to the playoffs with,
you know, guys are going hot, pitchers are in a good zone,
but I don't need us to have home field advantage so badly that we spend
our bullpen in a way that has a couple of arms overtaxed.
I want to go into the playoffs as close to 100% rested,
recovered, and ready to rock and roll.
Even if that means down that Diamondbacks series,
looking at finally, okay, last three games of the season,
and then into the playoffs,
if we need to make a spot start from somebody
to rearrange an extra day of rest,
like to get everything really tuned up,
given that we are going to make the playoffs.
That's just my thoughts.
Curious to hear from all of you guys.
