This ABSOLUTELY SUCKS...

This is really bad for the Padres as they drop another game to the Rays. But even worse things happen than that. What happened? Can they be redeemed? Are we still good? Let's talk about it. Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres Digest with your host, Andrew. Today sucked in many different ways, and we'll get into all of them. But I don't think it's time to panic. I've seen a lot of panicking on Twitter and all that. I'm not going to panic, but the loss that we have today is not going to be good for us. So let's talk about it. So let's start with the obvious news, the thing that's going to concern us the most, probably. Luis Renjifo exited today's game with a right knee sprain. He's receiving treatment and will fly back to San Diego for further evaluation. obviously i can't show you the play but he was carted off so honestly he's probably gonna be done for the season we're probably not gonna get Renhefo back for the rest of the year he might even be out next year uh so basically his career has been shot i guess i don't know ever a better term ruined uh it sucks like i feel really bad for him like i don't want to say Luis Renhefo ruined the game for us so when i watched the play i don't know if it was entirely the leg or the knee blowing out that caused a bad throw or if the bad throw happened and then he hurt his knee you know what i mean i'm sure it's a little bit of both but it's it's unfortunate i'm not mad at Renhefo like i just feel really bad for him because like he finally turned his career round playing really well being the spark plug for us for when samad taylor left and now he's done right so now it's loriano gone with a similar injury with loriano knee injury i forget but Loriano's gone uh Renhefo's gone so i'm assuming that means Samad Taylor or Sung Moon Sung will get called up uh i would feel like it would make more sense to call Sung Moon Sung up since Ren Hifo was getting switched to a more infield role. Or Willie Wagner. I still kind of want to see Willie Wagner come back, but I just feel really bad for Ren Hifo. I hope you guys don't hate on Ren Hifo for this. I mean, yeah, the play sucked. Yeah, it caused us to lose, but what do you want him to do? He destroyed his knee. People aren't made of steel. Things happen. There are people playing at the top of their physical abilities unless you're Machado running the first base, and sometimes things like this happen. It sucks. It sucks that we have to lose that way it sucks that we're now out of the wild card which i can now show you of course um and i know a lot of people are like with when the Padres miss the playoffs we'll look back on this series and the other series i don't think this means that we're out of the like we're not gonna make the playoffs like let's we played the best team in the AL i'm aware we swept the Brewers uh but this team the Rays they play the kind of baseball that i wish we could play more which is small ball find ways to win now we can absolutely play small ball find ways to win and we've done it before we did it a little bit today with the Machado uh steal Tatis steal like we can do the same thing but they have like perfected it like the Rays are a good team because they just find ways to win and they have very good pitching like they play how we should be able to play you know what i mean so i'm not saying this makes us a bad team because we lost the series to the Rays the Rays have beat a lot of teams that's why they're the best team in the AL so I don't think this is time to really panic and say the season's over I think it's too early for that like we're gonna be playing the Rockies and the Giants for seven games if we lose those series then we can panic but it's all nothing's gonna matter until the last game of the series when we play the Diamondbacks uh because I feel like what we're gonna have for the rest of the year is us and the Diamondbacks flip-flopping because they're gonna play some tough teams we're gonna play some tough teams they're playing um were they playing again giants i think so they're playing easier teams sometimes we'll play harder teams sometimes that is just how baseball works we're gonna flip-flop a lot i mean even the cubs have been playing kind of poorly recently as you can see four and six so baseball is a long season we still have a month left don't hit the panic button yet now if we're mid-september almost at 500 again sure hit it then but right now i think we're still okay i think pitching and offense did enough today besides b-rod b-rod wasn't great today but i still love b-rod i think we did enough it was just unfortunate how we had to lose this game and i'm not panicking but i am upset about it so yeah six to seven don't do the meme we're not in the mood for the meme uh but top performers machado nice performance ty france helped us win dustin harris like what you got right there today walker buehler i know it wasn't amazing but i think he did good enough so yeah padres lose the series to the rays but can avoid the sweep with a win tomorrow side note the rays are wild man low low payroll high turnover and yet pretty much every year they're a pain for opposing teams to play uh and of course per padres Renyyifo left the game with a right knee sprain i cannot read i am so sorry but we saw that already but yeah we're back in third place how long i don't know but again this baseball we flip-flop it's gonna happen right let's just try to win tomorrow if not i still don't think it's the end of the world it'll suck i will hate it but i don't think it's the end of the world hitting wise i think we did enough today three for eight runners in scoring position i i think offense did enough we did better than yesterday in my opinion uh scoring six runs against most teams should be a victory right so offense i'm okay with dustin harris i was confused why you were called up but i actually kind of like the cut of your jib i don't know what that means still but i like saying it the cut of your jib uh but yeah i liked seeing Machado with RBIs obviously and Ty France with the RBIs, Merrill not so much but that's fine everyone else Compasano got a little colder but i still like him a lot so again i'm fine with what happened today offensively defensively and again Renhefo i don't know if it's the throw or the injury that caused that or the throw obviously caused it but was the throw because of the injury i don't know but i'm not blaming Renhefo, Bueller did enough, Kyle Hart did enough, B-Rod so the thing about B-Rod it was i actually wasn't able to watch his outing i was busy for a sec uh and i come back we were losing so i don't know exactly how he pitched but i know giving up three hits is not great i know giving up an almost grand slam is not great uh but he's got a 2.10 ERA overall B-Rod's not a problem people have bad games, Morehones had bad games before like it happens let's not let's not throw fire on Rodriguez for a bad outing it sucks but it happens you can tell why he only has one earned run versus four runs total but still giving up three hits not great uh but yeah Bueller command was there contact was not denied uh 71 pitches 20% CSW rate why did i forget what CSW rate was uh called strikes and whiffs i think it is hold on i'll double check look at me being right but yeah 20 rate but just one whiff and 34 swings too much contact uh but no zero walks that's fine no extended free bases uh two solo home runs allowed which isn't great but again Aranda Caminero those are good players so not great but it's fine whatever only one whiff though on 34 swings stuff did not miss bats so it wasn't a horrible game it wasn't a great game rays definitely hit him uh but the contact wasn't anything so bad that it was a six run outing for Walker Buehler you know what i mean so fine enough fine enough not the best but fine enough as i guess the best way i can say it but obviously fine enough is not good enough to beat the rays uh and most contending teams so i'm not saying that we should forget this series happened and keep doing things like there are things that i think we need to address for example Craig Stammen and his pitch pool pitch starting pitcher pooling like he'll pull bueller super quickly but he'll keep king and mize in for other situations now i understand that king and mize have more pedigree but they're just sometimes i wish he was smarter with things but i i don't i don't think there's anything else we can really do to change this team besides whoever we call up for triple a uh on september and today i think this is the team we're going to be with for the rest of the year i mean uh i saw a luis robert JR got released on waivers so we could pick him up but i don't know why we would do that so this is the team we're stuck with and i like this team i think this team is really good uh we just got to stop beating ourselves up because that's what we're doing right now i think the biggest thing we're doing is we're beating ourselves the Rays punish the mistakes that we're giving them and sometimes the Padres do the same thing we played the Rockies and they had four errors in what like one inning and we destroyed them for that they're doing what they should be doing and we're giving them the opportunities to do the things to score against us based on our horrible play.
