The Flyers are a Complete Nightmare...

The Philadelphia Flyers are an absolute disaster, and typically we get a lot of pushback sometimes when we make negative videos about a team, but I have a feeling the Flyers fans are going to rally around this one, and for the record, if you're a Flyers fan and you're feeling frustrated about this team, please air it out in the comments, because if this losing streak continues much longer to the point where we make another video on it, I mean the 10 milestone is coming right up, we'll maybe include some of your comments, right? So at least that will be fun that comes out of this. But let's just dive right into what's going on with the Flyers. I don't think there's no other way to say it. And they're an absolute mess, right? This is a team where pretty much everything is going wrong. And I think I just want to start with the standings, like where things are going for this team. When you don't win a game, you know it's not going to be good. You know, at least they have three points here. But for a team that's played the most games in the Metro, other than the Rangers, to have three points as a close to their 12, it's an absolute disaster in Philadelphia. This is a team that made the playoffs last year. And while I wasn't expecting a step up, I felt like they could defend their three spot. And I never want to say a team's season is early, over nine games in, because anything can happen, right? Torts can get fired tomorrow, new coach bump. We saw something crazy last year at Columbus where they had an insane surge in the second half. But I think right now the Flyers' season is as close to over as it can possibly be nine games in. And the concerning part is it only feels like it's getting worse. And we're going to dive more into this video. One of the big things, the key here is I think the fans are completely losing it with Coach Torts. We're going to have a lot of tweets in this one really showing the emotions of the fans. This is from Broad Street Bullies, Broad Street Bull. And he mentions here, like, you wonder if Coach Torts's days are numbered. And to be honest, I think that's the biggest concern based on everything we've heard from this team so far. I don't think his days are numbered despite the fact this team is getting outshot at this point still two to one and they've had slightly better efforts in the last two games I guess you could take that as a victory except the past the teams they've played in the last two games are two of the worst teams at least looking at rosters wise Seattle and Detroit these are both teams that should be easily games that you win especially when you're so desperate for a win and the Flyers still are not able to put up any offense we'll talk about two main reasons why that is but I think it starts with Tortorella and one thing I don't think is getting talked about enough with the Flyers and we'll touch on again at the end of this video is I don't think this style that they are playing makes any sense especially for their team right I'm not saying Tortorella's system would never work it's clear especially that we're seeing again after we saw in Vancouver that doesn't have a long lifespan but you look at the roster on the Flyers I know you can point like last year things kind of worked for a bit but you look at what they have they have a lot of really talented wingers you should be trying to push the zone play fun hockey like that why with a poor defensive core and an even poorer core of centers that you're trying to play heavy defensive first hockey protecting the house and limiting chances for both teams makes absolutely no sense and i'm gonna keep hammering at home i gotta say too i feel bad for David Jiricek but he clearly does not belong in the nhl it's a weird situation where if he gets put on waivers he likely gets claimed because his reputation honestly at this point who knows but it's not working you got to try something else or at least put him on the bench uh let him sit and watch and put somebody else out there the funny thing too is i think Bonk has looked really good out there and they just decide not to play him which is a theme in general it seems to be with the flyers and players that play well um if you play well you're gonna get uh less playing time which makes absolutely no sense uh Chris Kurtz had a really good point here uh Chris Kurtz NHL Rick Tockett isn't solely to blame for the Flyers embarrassing start but he has a huge part in it and he absolutely does uh my thing with Tockett is yeah you can say this roster was never good enough that is a valid criticism I don't think this Flyers team is built very well right I think the wings have a lot of talent as we're going to talk about in a bit there are flaws with this team but there's no excuse nine games in for them to have zero wins I know they were close in that Seattle game right you got unlucky in the shootout that's going to happen to you that Detroit game was a 1-1 game for a bit but a lot of these games haven't even been competitive and you look at the Flyers schedule so far right it hasn't been a ton of star-studded teams or beginning of the season at first they get blown out by the Penguins you're like wow the Penguins look pretty good the Penguins just lost to the Chicago Blackhawks right it is not looking good for the Flyers at all a lot of these teams they're losing to are turning out to not be as good teams as you thought they would be and looking ahead with Flyers I don't see many easy wins uh on the schedule in the horizon right they had a couple good games that I thought they could win but now you look ahead the Ottawa Senators are up next that's a tough team and you got to be figuring it's very likely they're gonna have Jake Sanderson back for this one so good luck any hockey team can win on any night but the way they're playing you know teams at this point are just out for blood and you got to imagine that it's probably affecting the player's confidence uh then you have the Avalanche the Sabres the Ducks the Blue Jackets that's the one I circle as the game that you probably should win you know the Blue Jackets haven't been all that good and you should probably try to win all these games but it's just getting really ugly for the Flyers you you missed a couple big opportunities to put more points on the board and three in nine games just is not going to cut it and one of the big things of the Flyers too it'd be one thing if you're losing you suck but hey you know what the young guys are absolutely tearing it up you're not playing your young players the whole point of this season I would argue even if they were trying to make the playoffs it would be to do so with McCarne playing well right you can it's okay if the season doesn't turn out well if McCarne has a great rookie season this is a guy that I believed in to be the Calder Trophy winner right I had a lot of high hopes for him and it's fair he hasn't been doing everything that he's been asked but I'm starting to wonder if maybe the things that Tortorella is asking McCarne to do like with Michkov just don't make sense right with a young player you just want them to get accustomed to the NHL you want them to get comfortable right of course you have to be responsible when i say responsible that's covering your point especially as a winger covering your points and back checking right all these details that Tortorella constantly uh benches uh McCarne and Michkov for it's absolutely ridiculous he's only getting 13 minutes per game and it's just a shame because you look at what he did last season right this is a player that clearly showed he can play well in the NHL last year they let him go and he put up 10 points in nine games and i understand he's playing 17 minutes a game i understand the player has to play better as well but that can't happen if you're constantly bringing him on the bench and lecturing him every time he does something well one points one goal is not good enough in eight games i understand that but you just gotta let the player play and and just focus on being an offensive star, right? Let him develop the offense in the NHL, right? It's only been 10 games. Let him develop the offense, and then the defense will come later. Because right now, let's face it, you're not getting defense from this team, and you're not getting any offense, right? So it's just an overall disaster for the Flyers. As we talked about, the minutes have not been where you want to see them, and there have been games where he's gotten a little bit more time. But in general, this is a guy that you want to see him playing every single game what he did last season 17 plus realistically 18 or 19 this is your young star along with Michkov this is your future and that's the biggest thing i'm concerned about the flyers it's not the losing right because you can make the argument that the flyers it might not be the worst thing to get a first overall pick right you talk about one of their problems is needing a top line center the other problem is needing a top pair defenseman right a power play quarterback well you get the first overall pick second overall third overall you're pretty much guaranteed to get one of those two things so in that sense that's not the worst but what is the worst is if Tockett continues to ruin these young players you might get to a point where damage can't be undone right we saw what this did in Vancouver and Pedersen is finally starting to recover with his play for a young player like Martone I guess the bright side is he is so young he has so much time to develop and it is the NHL too right you're still getting valuable experience but this is just not what you want to see and it even goes to Michkov right it isn't just Martone the Michkov is once again in Rick Tockett's jail and this one infuriates me more because he really showed like this summer that he was willing to put in the work so far he only has two goals that might sound horrible for the Flyers he has close to the most goals on the team this team has been horrendous and yeah minus seven is horrible but you have an offensively minded player not being able to play their game and solely being focused on defensive minutes and i will say with Michkov 15 minutes it is better than Martone right that is a sizable difference right but but it's not enough this is a guy at this point he should be getting top line minutes he should be getting the best possible that's the other thing he should be getting constant offensive zone deployments and who knows how much there is with this team considering how bad they are getting the puck to the offensive zone but that is how you should be coaching this player the Flyers are absolutely not doing that and even with Michkov the minutes have also been pretty consistent inconsistent right he's had a good game two good games where he got 16 minutes 16 minutes 14 that they're really holding all his stats up several games recently where he's played under 13 minutes in a game that is just unacceptable it does not make sense what this Flyers team is doing i i hear Flyers fans yelling it last year i thought you guys were a bit crazy for saying you want Torts gone I'm like this is this team that's probably gonna make the playoffs like he's clearly doing a lot of good work here no in hindsight it makes a lot of sense and i kind of want to end this video off really talking about that funny quote you knew it was coming up the the quote about Torts and what he thinks this defense needs to do i don't know if i can share it i'll just say the Flyers are winless I was part of those words I winless in the first eight games of the season now nine games and Torts basically in his own words said that the defensemen are being too horny and taking away the funny ha ha ha he said the word uh what he's trying to mean there is he thinks the problem is the defensemen are getting too excited getting too aggressive and this i think highlights the problem with the Flyers right Torts is looking at this sample size and saying the problem is his defensemen are getting too jumpy and getting getting into play too eager no no the problem is not defense it's not the way the team is playing defensively it's that the team is absolutely dead offensively right the fact that the Flyers have scored what I think they scored 12 goals in nine games and their coach is coming there after losses and talking about the defense not just the defense even if he was talking about like the defense of the team in general which he's not he's talking about the defensemen I'm sure that can be better but that is not the problem the problem with this team is they cannot score and this is a team where you have a lot of interesting wingers right you should be trying to maybe experiment with flying the zone a little bit some fast systems and he's absolutely not doing that i don't know if this is a team that with the right coach can make the playoffs again right i feel like last year especially now right and then this is with the new information we have last year i would have said differently but i don't know if this team can make the playoff just based on better coaching but I can tell you the players will develop a whole lot better if you have so many players too you look at Forstér or Tippett so many players that you're hoping for breakout seasons this is not hockey that gets you a breakout season this is not hockey that improves anybody's trade value right last year there's a whole lot of talk about what you can trade Tippett for if the Flyers keep on playing the way they're playing right now you're gonna get nothing for him like that's just how this works uh I'm getting frustrated just talking about this and you can look behind me i have an islanders jersey behind me i don't understand what he is trying to do and i can imagine it is super infuriating for
