The Miami Heat did it AGAIN...
Oct 12, 2026
The Miami Heat did it again.
Pat Riley, the Arisons, the rest of the front office involved in Miami,
they've done it again with another gem late
in the NBA draft as Ryan Conwell.
Every time he gets another opportunity to go out there
and play meaningful basketball,
whether it's in training camp, whether it's in practice,
regular season or preseason games,
he goes out there and he simply shows up and shows out.
I'm here to break down his most recent performance
in yesterday's preseason game against the
Minnesota Timberwolves,
where we saw all of the facets of Ryan Conwell's game and really
why the expectations are so high for this young man out
of the University of Louisville.
We'll break down all of that on this episode of Heat Digest,
so let's not waste any time
and get right to it breaking down the news.
And before we get into the nitty gritty
and breaking down the actual production from him
and the big moves and big moments and quotes from not only Conwell,
but as well as head coach Eric Spoelstra, remember to keep this in mind.
Comment down below, A, B, or C, for what your expectations are
for Ryan Conwell in this upcoming season.
If you comment A, you think he's going to be a solid bench piece.
If you comment B, you think he's a future starter this season.
And if you comment C, you think he's flat-out going
to be a bust for the Miami Heat.
So keep that in mind.
Remember to comment down below to let us know where you guys sit
in this Ryan Conwell experience as we are now through three NBA
preseason games and Ryan Conwell continues to just simply show up
and show out every time he gets an opportunity to.
Now, a lot of people, if you did watch the game
or if you just saw the highlights on
social media or even YouTube, you may be saying,
well, Conwell got a shot at the buzzer to
win this game for the Miami Heat,
which they ended up losing 126 to 127 to the Minnesota
Timberwolves.
Conwell had a pull-up jump shot at the buzzer
to win this game for the Miami Heat, which
he ended up airballing.
But they won't tell you about the game as a collective,
how great he was on the offensive side of the ball,
as well as jumping passing lanes defensively and creating steals
and more possessions for this Miami Heat team.
But they also won't mention the huge shot
to tie this game at 121 apiece.
When Miami was down two with less than a minute left,
Conwell just simply turned into a walking bucket.
And I'm not trying to exaggerate, I'm not trying to paint a narrative,
because he didn't shoot phenomenally from the field for the collection
of this game, but he had 13 points in the third quarter,
he really took over in the second half,
and his overall abilities to get to his spot
and create space was just on full display all night long.
He ended the night with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists.
He did shoot 7 of 18 from the field,
including 2 of 9 from behind the 3-point line.
He did make 6 of his 7 free throws,
which is always great, and again, added those 2 steals.

But now, let's get back to it
and break down this Ryan Conwell situation
as he continues to show up and show out.
And if you didn't see our video breaking down
the red, white, and pink game,
an annual game that is showcased
in the Kaseya Center for this Heat organization.
Tickets are $10 for all fans to show up
and watch an inter-scrimmage game.
Ryan Conwell was battling with Trey Donaldson and Baz Mbang,
three youngsters playing the guard position.
And Ryan Conwell, he got embarrassed.
Trey Donaldson went between his legs and pulled the ball back,
and he ended up knocking down a three-point shot
as Ryan Conwell was on the floor from that dribble move.
not exactly the greatest look for a youngster
who honestly is really good defensively especially for
a shooting guard an undersized shooting guard especially
in today's game and age but it didn't
he didn't shy away from it he didn't get just all discouraged
and run away from the opportunity
he has accepted the challenge he has remained in that threat
and he continues to prove how great
he can really be now if you look at the depth chart
the reason i bring this up is because
the idea of him starting especially on opening night
is a bit drastic but if he continues to
prove his overall abilities on the offensive end,
not only scoring the basketball, but specifically
facilitating the basketball, he could really make
a run at that starting point guard job over someone
like De'Veon Mitchell. If Mitchell doesn't prove how good he got
this offseason with all of the
work he made, it was that he made abundantly clear that he was working
and doing this offseason. So
let's break down a few quotes from Ryan Connell
and then head coach Eric Spoelstra on really what
went on with him in these games
and really how the offseason has went for him up to this point
and these questions are from Zachary Weinberger
so shout out to him he's been crushing it quote
you mentioned boosting
your playmaking during training camp can you talk about that in terms
of your progression in playmaking Ryan Connell would go
on to say quote credit to my coaching
staff and to my vets every day in practice I'm able
to work on my reads work on different things
to help different pieces of my game.
With each day, I think it's showing up out there on the floor,
just getting more comfortable.
The game is slowing down more and more each day.
It's a work in progress,
and I'm just trying to get better at it every day
to be an all-around player.
Great answer from Ryan Connell.
The fact that he is acknowledging the fact
that the game continues to get slower
and slower for him mentally is phenomenal.
That's what you want to hear, and it doesn't appear.
If you guys go back and watch the interviews,
it doesn't look like he's just telling us
something to paint a narrative that hoping
that everyone catches on and believes, even
though it may not actually be true behind those eyes
and in his brain, it really does
feel that way.
And if you watch him actually play the game of basketball,
especially that Minnesota Timberwolves
preseason game, it does look like things are slowing down just a bit.
Even in those big moments where there
was less than a minute left, he was able to go
to work offensively get in a bit of an isolation situation
not fully isolation as i believe there
was someone still in the left corner working
from the left elbow he was able to get to work make a
bunch of dribble moves ended up getting just
to the free throw line extended area with one foot
in the paint being able to work off great footwork
and get to a fall away jump shot in the mid-range
area to end up tying that game at 121 he looked like
an experienced young man despite being fresh
into this league and just drafted in the past few months now second
and final quote from Conwell is
this quote it's a blessing to be in a position
that I'm in here everything matters no matter
the game whether it's preseason
or regular season practices it all matters just for them to look at
me in that regard at that moment in the game I'm thankful
for it I'm ready for it as well I embrace
those moments and I feel like I thrive
in those moments now obviously the final shot of not only
from Conwell, but for the game overall,
which would have won the Miami Heat the game over the
Minnesota Timberwolves, did not have the result everyone wanted,
including Conwell and the Heat team
Obviously, it still shows that he is not scared of those moments.
And again, like I mentioned in
the beginning of this video, people are going
to see that and be like, well, he missed the game
winner, blah, blah, blah, blah
What about the possession prior? What about the game prior? I
know that was the biggest moment,
but think about the big shot he made prior to that. Tie the game
at 121 in a much more difficult situation
because of the dribble moves and offensive
moves he had to make in order to get to a shot
that he felt comfortable with that created
enough space that wasn't considered a forced shot
that wasn't considered something that
was just a reach of a shot
or reach of a situation where he wanted to be the hero and he forced
it put him and his team
in a bad position late it wasn't any of that he did what he
had to do got off an accurate
and effective shot after phenomenal dribble moves and he was able to
knock down a very difficult shot
in crucial time overall really really impressed with this young
man I think he has great ability to go out there
and become a staple to this Miami Heat team
especially offensively if he continues to prove
his ability to facilitate the basketball without
turning it over at a rate where he would be understanding
to see from a rookie in the association now to
conclude this video we're quickly going
to highlight two quotes from head coach Eric
Spoelstra on Ryan Conwell and his overall feelings
about what we have witnessed from him up to this
point in the offseason and now this point through training camp
and now preseason quote he showed
the fortitude to stick with it he's had some ups
and downs in training camp but we feel he has the
makeup to be able to weather all these things
that will continue to happen when you're a young
player. Eric Spoelstra displaying a lot
of confidence in this young man despite witnessing
him on a daily basis coming in maybe not having the shot fall
or maybe not knowing how the defense
is going to blitz him or attack him in certain moments.
He does not shy away. He remains very
engaged. He remains in a position where he wants to continue to learn
and develop and with that
being said he's going to continue to improve
as a collective in the sense of a basketball player
on the offensive end not only when it comes to scoring
but when it comes to facilitating and
defensively when it comes down to making a big stop
and regardless of who's on the other side
now final quote from head coach Erik Spoelstra quote it's
the competitive spirit his tenacity
on the ball and just finding different ways
to impact the game he's not afraid with the ball
in his hands or taking shots he does it appropriately
if he's open he shoots if the
play calls for him to drive he does that but he's
been coached extremely well in college he comes in
like a veteran a huge huge compliment
from head coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledging the fact that
in college when he played at Louisville
and jumped around in the early stages of his college career
he was nothing short of a sponge
that went out there learned understood that he had to continue
to develop to become the player he has to be to succeed
and thrive in the association when he
finally gets there it's a lot of fun
to actually watch I'm going to love watching Ryan Connell all
season long and I think there's
a legitimate chance he can make a run at rookie of the year
despite the other really really talented names across
the board in the association let me know
down below your thoughts and opinions on Ryan Connell
and I will see you guys on the next
episode of Heat Digest thank you guys for watching
