This is EVEN BETTER Than We Expected...| Carolina Hurricanes Update
Oct 16, 2026
Another big injury has hit the Carolina Hurricanes,
and while this would confuse and discombobulate other teams,
the Hurricanes are super set up for success
and received a promising update
concerning a massive producer on the Hurricanes roster.
The Hurricanes are set up for success despite all the injuries.
Will it last and when will Jarvis be back? Welcome

as well because there's a lot coming at you. The
road trips coming up, got three men down
but promising update concerning Seth Jarvis, he's
getting closer according to Rod Brind'Amour, Walt Ruff shared
the coach's pre-game update to Trip
Tracy, there is a timeline there, I know it's close
but he also said it's certainly not within a game
or two, we wouldn't expect that he
so he won't be out in Winnipeg but he probably will be because
that's his hometown, here's the progression Jarvis
was back in a regular practice jersey on October
8th now we have this encouraging update from Brind'Amour
however it carries a non-confirmed
return game, they're not rushing him back
which is smart Jarvis explained the next step himself
and I quote, "now it's just a matter of getting comfortable"
and making sure it's ready to go
taking contact is progress, not there yet
but taking contact is progress, feeling ready for
game action is another step. Last season Carolina
went 48-17-6 with Jarvis and 5-5-1
without him, that shows the context
although it doesn't prove he alone caused that difference
Brind'Amour's early explanation
was pretty straightforward in a very broad type of way
it's a good sign there's a timeline
so we just need to follow that leaves two questions
leaves two questions who earns the available minutes now
and when will carolina confirm
that seth jarvis is available we'll
um who knows you know he uh he'll be back
when he's back
he'll be ready when he's ready they're winning games
so there's no rush in but losing taylor
hall might push that forward i'm gonna start
with some established combinations uh jarvis
Aho Svech controlled 63.2 percent
of the face-offs one
that's pretty big um 63.2 percent
of shot attempts as well across 581 five
on five minutes last season that's um that's that's a big
that that's a big push that's numbers you can't really sneeze
at uh their goal average was
narrower 29 26 we all know they have massive production
on line one we all know what they can
do on line one but Jarvis is down again he'll
be back better than ever I have faith in that
whoever joins Aho the assignment is up to him
to keep attacking recover pucks extend possessions
and give him and Svech useful options Jarvis
also contributed 21 power play points last season
his absence leaves several responsibilities to cover
and one replacement doesn't necessarily
inherit all of that Svechnikov is another part
of that fit the question is who helps the group
create constant pressure together my checklist
so far is simple and from what I've seen and what
we've all seen it's getting checked off
but there still is a checklist sustained offensive pressure
make useful plays around the net
and handle defensive responsibilities jarvis gives us this
benchmark the available players now have
an opportunity to show to show that they can handle
all of that and one guy has been put in there
and is actually showing you know he's not jarvis
but he's William Carrier I'm
a big Carrier fan uh William Carrier has an encouraging start his
line with Aho and Svech has controlled 65.3 percent of attempts
and led goals six to three
throughout 58 minutes his ice time as perspective playing
on that line doesn't automatically mean
taking on Jarvis's full workload um gotta watch both the assignments
and the minutes so far
Carrier is getting me the opportunity Carrier
is getting a chance to show he can help this
combination work he can help this combination work i think
those early results justify keeping
him on line one if that's what rod looks to do you know
um but keep the samples separate 58 minutes
this season versus 581 for the jarvis combination last season
those percentages cannot establish
um you know if he should stay on the line i think he should stay
on the line those are big numbers
to cover uh nobody's expecting Carrier to be jarvis
but what keeps Carrier there useful offensive
shifts chances for his line mates
and enough consistency consistency to make the next decision
harder Aho's hot Aho's white hot Svechnikov's
heating up he had two goals including the winner
against Washington Carrie is doing his job
so far i think he's doing a great job um but can
he keep helping Aho's Aho's line succeed can he
keep them hot can he keep them moving so far so
good but we'll see what happens coming up during
their road trip in Canada here's the forward
picture to keep watching
um this was the lineup against Washington minus Nadeau now that Hall
is hurt so here's a projection of what
the lineup could look like leading into Winnipeg
with Nadeau jumping in now that Hall's hurt you got
to move Ehlers up to line two and then fill
in from there Kokaniemi and Jankowski onto three
to cover Jordan Staal being hurt and Ehlers moving
up into Taylor Hall's spot Delorier continues to be in the lineup
and now that Jankowski's up on
three i would assume project i would project
that Bradley Nadeau would fill in in down the middle
and Kokaniemi will be up there too on line three
um you gotta keep shuffling everybody in Carolina's
a next man up type of offense a next man up type
of roster they develop down in Chicago very well
what Rod will be looking for up in Raleigh just
in case something like this happens and we're seeing
the just-in-case scenario where i have a lot
of faith in this lineup i really do until the wheels
fall off which hopefully they don't we're
not Florida the wheels aren't going to fall off here
Jarvis's season card reminds us what Carolina
is waiting to add back his previous projection
provides context it doesn't establish
his workload immediately after he gets back but
Seth Jarvis is going to come flying in Seth Jarvis
is Seth Jarvis he's an animal the next available
checkpoint is a new team
or coach update that's what we're waiting for we don't have a confirmed
timeline for that update
or a confirmed return game right now don't rush him back it doesn't
look like they're rushing him back
but having him in a regular practice jersey is a very
promising sight until then Carrier continues
um if he starts to falter who does rod move up
who does he move in um would you keep Carrier besides beside Aho
and Svechnikov or give
another wing a look let me know in the comments
um it's it's tough it's tough to call uh so far
everything's working well but that's
when they had Taylor Hall they still came back and won the
game four to two against Washington they were down
at one point they were down when Hall got hurt but
everybody came flying in Janko's an animal um an absolute animal
and Svech just went off Svech
went off I'm convinced that when Hall went down Svechnikov said
to himself it's go time and when
Svech thinks it's go time
Good luck, because he is the best Russian-born player in the NHL.
That includes number eight.
I've said it before.
I'll say it again.
Svechnikov went off.
He scored the game-winning goal.
He set Janko up for the fourth empty net goal.
It was awesome to see.
So I think William Carrier stays in line one.
I think everybody moves up.
Like I said, Ehlers in the two to fill in the Hall spot.
uh you move Kokaniemi and Jankowski up
to three uh Kokaniemi filling in the hole uh the Ehlers
leaves behind moving up to two uh Jankowski once again filling
in for stall like he did against
Washington when they head into Winnipeg
which is next on Saturday they head to Winnipeg for what's
called the fair circuit up in western Canada
um Kokaniemi's been playing decent i mean i'm really
glad he remembers how to skate
um you know Carolina visits Winnipeg on Saturday um opening
the six game trip
so everybody moves in the standings show both clubs you know enter this
matchup Carolina it's another opportunity to keep
a strong start uh to stay in first uh for Winnipeg
it's a chance to show they can
do it without Connor Hellebuyck uh Carrier has no points in
three Winnipeg meetings that's limited history
not a prediction about this matchup his recent
form is more encouraging four points all assists over
his last five games um can he contribute
on the road my answer would have to be check he'll
be fine hopefully um this shows the recent
goalie workload it provides context for the decision
but it doesn't confirm Saturday's
starters just yet we also have
our special teams matchup here special teams another part of the
test without Hall, Stahland and Jarvis, it's it's
a big part of the test especially when Carolina is
managing challenging forward assignments
so the next game test Saturday six game road trip begins
uh watch the confirmed lines i'll
be keeping an eye on that as we move closer
uh track the available shifts
and what will keep keep going over there uh who earns the top line
shifts who do you think i want to go with we stay
with what works with Carrier um also got a lot
watch how that line creates chances
and how the workload is shared you know it's not just Jarvis
anymore there's two more out that really produce a lot
also reminder if you're in the chicago area
let's go wolves wolves versus iowa wild happens
on saturday at the all-state arena it's a wolves
tober fest german alpine hat giveaway i'm excited
for that if anybody in the wolves organization is
watching which you should be please get me a hat i really really a hat
so saturday will be a test
now that Hall's out, possibly
moving everybody in. Carrier doing a great
job filling in for the injured
Seth Jarvis
Jarvis potentially coming back
sooner rather than later, which would be
a great sight. Rod giving
positive updates. Jarvis giving
positive updates
If anything else comes down, I'll be the first
to let you know. Until then,
for Hurricanes Digest, I'm
Jeff Testanero. Let's go Canes.
Wolves get a win against Iowa on Saturday.
