Metro bus carjacked, involved in crashes in DTLA

A Metro bus was carjacked in downtown Los Angeles, resulting in several crashes before the driver eventually plowed into the Ritz-Carlton Hotel overnight.
Breaking news in downtown L.A. A Metro bus was carjacked and then crashed into several cars and then the Ritz-Carlton.
Eyewitness News reporter Jayshia Patel live in downtown Los Angeles with the latest on that. Jayshia.
Good morning, Rachel and John. The details surrounding what exactly happened here are definitely bizarre.
Police say the suspect got onto the Metro bus with a BB gun that looked like a replica gun
and that bus eventually crashed here behind me at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
You can see the front end damage here on the Metro bus. It's completely smashed.
There's a hole at the front of the hotel. The cleanup happened earlier and it looks
like right now crews are having trouble towing that Metro bus here at the scene.
But before this crash happened here, the bus actually hit two cars and I want you to take
a look at this surveillance video where you can see the moment the bus crashed into one of those
cars and it appears like the drivers could have been hurt. One person was seen bleeding from their
head and the video also shows the bus speeding down streets here in downtown LA. Now fortunately
there were no passengers on the Metro bus at the time. Police say the suspect did not attempt to
drive the bus but back out here live you can see the damage here at the front of the Ritz-Carlton
Hotel. The bus driver was injured but the suspect is in custody and we have reached out to Metro for
a statement and we're waiting to hear back.
