Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Los Angeles Lakers are aiming to optimize their roster by reducing their player count to 14 or 15. The team is exploring trades involving Dalton Knecht and Jarred Vanderbilt to acquire a high-impact power forward or backup center, while also evaluating promising two-way players and maintaining salary cap flexibility to sign veteran talent.
Is there a massive trade on the way as a report just revealed the Lakers next move and it's something that has been discussed about
For a while within the Lakers
But it looks like we now have more of a definitive answer on what they are trying to do
It also opens up another question on what the Lakers will do in order to get the most out of their roster this
upcoming
season guys
What's good? I'm gonna cut your pocket man. And this is Lakers digest can get you with another
Everything we have you for today's video. I just remind you guys subscribe to China
we guys haven't already to get those Laker updates guys because at the end of this month is the start of the
Interesting prep conferences and training camp for the Los Angeles Lakers. So that means basketball is just around the corner
So if you don't miss on anything going on with the Los Angeles Lakers, make sure you guys are subscribed to the channel here at
Lakers
Digest y'all now without of the ways up straight into our main story of the day and that is
The Lakers are trying to solidify the roster as two players are on the trading block
So the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to solidify the roster as they're currently at 16 roster spots
And they're trying to cut it down to 15
Maybe even 14 here with this recent report here from Jake Fisher talking about what the Lakers are trying to do to get the most
Out of their roster this upcoming season before we get into that guys. I want to bring up our
Sponsor here guys, and that is going to be
Kaoshi guys and for those of you asking like what is Kaoshi Kaoshi is a place where you can trade
Directly against other users and not the house like traditional sports books and you're buying yes
Or no contracts on the outcomes of events across sports politics or even the weather guys
And if you guys use that code right there on the screen
You'll get $25 when signing up for Kaoshi for the first time there guys
So if you guys use that code digest NBA news new users get $25 to trade when they use that code there
And I got some pics for you guys later on into the show
But back to our main story here talking about how the Los Angeles Lakers are
really trying to look to
Trade a couple of guys here, and this is from Jake Fisher as I was saying
But this is what's going on as a Dalton connect and Jared Vanderbilt are still being sport for a trade
These two guys have been on the trade walk for quite some time for Los Angeles Lakers even before the trade deadline
We had this past season here
And these are two guys who just really just kind of fell out of the Laker rotation
really and they've been guys really trying to find their way either back into the Laker rotation or the goodness gracious of the Los Angeles
Lakers as
You know, we've seen you know
Obviously if you online you've seen Vandals vaults and everything, you know, so very good team guy very good for the team
But the Lakers are still trying to optimize the most and trying to see what they can get out of this Laker
roster here, so this gets me to another thing here that
both Dalton connect and Jared Vanderbilt are two of the most
prominent trade candidates throughout the offseason rumors and Los Angeles Lakers as
The NBA inside of Jake Fisher believes that they're still on the trading block and he says I do think the Lakers are so
going to look to potentially trade all to connect and
Jerry Vanderbilt Fisher said I think there's plenty of time
For them to make this decision and what he means by plenty of time is like this could take up all the way up until
Where in the Lakers start playing games in late October?
so there's still about like about a month and a half here, but the Lakers can make a deal here for
Guys Dalton connect and Jared Vanderbilt, but there's been a lot of talk
obviously of the Lakers still looking for that starting power forward here and
I don't think the Lakers are going to find that with trading guys like Jared Vanderbilt and Dalton connect
So it might be more optimal for them to trade them for maybe for some place or some some picks or some
Maybe even some useful contracts that you can use in to maneuver to try to get another
trade to go down here for the Los Angeles Lakers here and
just another thing I wanted to bring up here as just both for adults and connect and
Jared Vanderbilt as
After a promising rookie season connect completely fell out of the road of rotation for a judge erratic and
In his second season his numbers declined significantly. He only averaged 4.2 points per game in 10.2 minutes
Despite averaging 9.1 points in
2024 2025 and that's when he started some games there
He had that huge 37 point game against Utah Jazz where he just couldn't really miss from three
I think it like 90 points that game and that was like the high of Dalton connect
But he really has fallen off a cliff since then it could be due to the trade
Or being in the initial trade for Mark Williams and that could have probably changed things for Dalton connect
but really there's just been a lot of things that has went wrong for him ever since then and then also
Jerry Vanderbilt who has contributed to
to the turn the surface to Lakers discussions as after averaging about
For 4.4 points we gave him 4.5 rebounds in 65 games last season for the Lakers
He said to make 12.4 million dollars this upcoming season and also as a player option for the same
Number value contract for the following season there
so that's what's kind of been making it pretty tough to trade for to trade a Jared Vanderbilt's contract there because a lot of teams
are really trying to
not
Pay Jared Vanderbilt's up to that amount of money there for a guy who can be a liability on the offensive end
So both the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to try to find a way to improve the roster
But also they might have to just find a way to get those guys off of their team to fit under that NBA
restriction limit of 15 players there and the reason why I gave up that idea of maybe even goes down to 14 players and they
should probably even trade both Vanderbilt and connect for maybe some players that kid and players I mean picks really that can probably help them to
Acquire another player in another deal say like if you were to trade both connect and
Vandal and then you're gonna get maybe two second round picks
then you have even more capital to use in a trade to try to
Really acquire that starting
Level forward that the Lakers have been looking for this whole offseason here
and they didn't find it as they were going after John's on the coming but he chose the Minnesota Timberwolves and now the Lakers are
Kind of at a weird spot here because there could be a bunch of a number of guys that could start at the starting part
Power for position, but none of them are really an optimal
Name that you want to start there at the starting power for there
Like yes, you got mom which colors video they sign you got Jake O'Reilly who's on the team last year played all 82
And you have Zari Williams who signed who has shown that can be a very good 3 and D player
But he's a little bit frail a little bit skinnier. He did add some weight though recently as he said an interview for ESPN
LA so that is kind of exciting there, but it's just there's no
definitive guy there for the Los Angeles Lakers here and just another thing that I
Wanted to bring up here as
Trading or waving a player possibility like Vandal connect
it seemed like the top two candidates both Vanderbilt and connect have been floated around as candidates prior to the offseason like I said before and
It's it's even the latter as being traded to the Hornets as before it was rescinded there
So yes, both of these guys have you know possibly been in talks and things of that nature there
But the Lakers have to find a way to try to get the most out of their roster for this season
So it means that those two guys or maybe even a combination of like maybe Dalton connecting Jason
Hardy who is another guy they acquired in the DeAndre Ayton trade to the Washington Wizards as he's a guy that came back at a
pretty
Measly salary there at six million dollars there that you could trade a package in another type of deal there
Depending on what the Lakers are trying to do. They already have all of their guards essentially all the ball handling
Accounted for with Luka doctor to Austin Reeves and then calling sex and they're coming off the bench and even quitting rhymes a little bit
I think can handle the ball in some situations and be
adequate in that
Scenario there, but this gets me to my next point here for the Los Angeles Lakers
And it's alternative options really philosophy because if they go that route in trading these players both either connect
Vando or
Jason Hardy or maybe even a Bronnie James to all these names could be up for being traded for the Lakers are possibly gonna
Try to trade two of these guys off of the roster
Maybe for one guy back if they can find something they need but if they don't find that one guy back for something I need
I think it's more benefits for the Lakers to trade two of those players to have that open roster spot
And this is something the Lakers have done in years past where they really try to have that open roster spot
Say if it comes around that time where it's past the trading deadline and you're looking for that
Sort of filler that that guy that can help
Really fill out your rotation air late in the season because he was either cut for some reason or way for some
reason then you can pick him up there as the Los Angeles Lakers have done a very
Solid job of trying to stay under that first apron there so they can be in that position to do that
So the Lakers would have to get off a little couple of guys
But in the meantime Lakers are gonna have to find some productive play from a couple of guys
They have on their roster and there's a couple of names that I think some Laker fans aren't really
Too aware about here, but they had terrific summer leagues
And I think they can mix a contribution to the Lakers this
season and one of those guys that I was thinking about is Chris man young as was a guy who was a
Tremendous in the summer league there was a point-of-attack defender a guy that can really get up into guard 94 feet
that's what he does for a living there and what really
Impressed me about his summer league though was his ability to shoot the ball and also score in efficient ways there
He wasn't a guy that wasn't really like I'd say like a super
Like aggro knockdown shooter like a guy like Cam Carr was for the Los Angeles Lakers
But he took the open shots when he had them and then also driving into the basket finishing with either hand
so he was showing a little bit of offensive viability that he didn't really show in the season prior there and
with him being on a two-way deal, he's gonna spend some time with the
The Coachella Valley Lakers, I'm sorry as they're they're newly named and then also with the Los Angeles Lakers there
So maybe there's an opportunity for a guy like Chris man young to get some minutes
He is like I said a point-of-attack defender real just hound on that end of the ball there
and he can be a guy that can really wreak havoc and then another guy that I was also looking into was out there other
two-way guy was
Arthur Columa so a guy that who had a tremendous showing out there for the the Los Angeles Lakers and
What he did really for the Lakers he averaged 19 points per game
To go along with 61% shooting and 50% shooting from the field in the Vegas Summer League
so he was tremendous in the bigger summer league that really helps propel him to get that two-way deal for the Los Angeles Lakers and
This can be another guy that Lakers can utilize in some of these spots there
Say if they were to move off of Vando and don't connect because he's a guy
He's a forward size player 6-7 can guard can guard some wings can guard some bigs
He's pretty stout there at a pretty good size and can be a guy that can also has shown the ability to shoot the ball
And shoot the ball with some range there
So that's very very exciting to see from a two-way guy
and I think both Chris Pignone and Arthur Columa can find their way onto minutes on this Laker team because of their ability to really
Compete on the defensive and compete at a very high level and also give you something all the offensive end
Chris Pignone will still see obviously if that translates to the higher level
But I think Columa has shown enough especially in the G League
he was also a pretty prominent score for the Los Angeles Lakers and then and
now
Translating that summer league and hopefully if he has a good preseason and then then on and so forth
Then we'll start to see what it now more looks like for the Los Angeles Lakers as they'll get a sense of like, okay
Who works with this team who doesn't and then we can find a guy to move off on whether it's trading him
Cutting him or something of that nature. Hopefully we don't get to that point
We will recut a player and we can try to find a trade for a place
We can get some value back for Lakers so they can use it in another deal to try to
Acquire that starting for they're looking for or even a backup or more
Prominent backup center that which is something the Lakers could utilize here for this team there
But I promised you guys some pics on later into the show
And then this is a couple of things that I have been looking at here on
Kaoshi and so the Los Angeles Lakers
chance for the best regular season record
Here I think they have a great chance to be a very good regular season team there they have the stuff there
they have the offense with both Luka Donchik and
Austin Reeves and then adding their big walk Walker Kessler can be the man in the middle
He's gonna be a guy that's gonna be a two-way force
Not only a guy that can finish lobs and be a great screen center on one end of the floor
But also be a terrific offensive rebounder be a good defensive rebounder be a guy man
In the middle can really clog up the lane and be a defensive presence. They're really is what you're hoping for. Is it just a
Really premium optimum version of Rudy Gobert from a guy like Walker Kessler
and I think you can provide that especially with guys like Austin Reeves and Luka Donchik making it a lot easier for him and
Yes, like another thing that I was looking at here on a Kaoshi here
It's like it's a best regular season record there and it's very simple on Kaoshi
all you gotta hit is yes or no on what you think is gonna happen and
Then you will get
Paid accordingly there. So just remember guys while you guys are using
Kaoshi to use that code their digest NBA as new users get $25
Um for playing on Kaoshi for their first time guys, so just remember
Digest NBA there and remember if you're on Kaoshi to play responsibly what that's gonna be it for this video guys
Let us know in the comments down below of what you guys think
The Lakers should do here with Delta Connect and Jerry Randolph
Do you think they should be guys?
Clearly on the trading block and try to find some ways to trade for him or are you trying to cut one of these guys?
In order to try to get the Lakers to the 15 roster spots, which I don't think is the best optimal my idea
Then also, what do you think about some of the other guys that I've named here both with Arthur Kaluma and Chris Mignon?
Do you think there are guys that can get into?
The Laker rotation also you can possibly get some minutes here for Lakers and make a contribution to this team this
Year, let us know there in the comments down below guys. I have been your host
I'll catch you a pachama and I'll catch you guys on the next one
