Lakers Make a SNEAKY Signing...
Jul 14, 2026
The Lakers just made a sneaky signing, snagging this player at a bargain price, and he brings
much needed youth, defense, and athleticism to this team that is sorely lacking in that
department.
And it's becoming more clear of Rob Palenka's plan for the final roster spots, as a report
points to the direction towards a player that has been connected to the Los Angeles Lakers
for a couple of weeks now.
What's good?
I'm Moken Chihakama, and this is Lakers Digest Convention with another video.
We're going to get to everything we have for today's video.
I just want to remind you guys to subscribe to the channel if you guys haven't already
to get those Laker updates, especially here while Summer League is going on right now,
and there's a whole bunch of Laker news flying around left, circle, right, and center.
So if you guys don't want to miss out on anything going on with the Lakers, make sure you guys
are subscribed to the channel here at Lakers Digest.
Now without further delay, let's hop straight into the topic of this video, as the Lakers
sign Zaheer Williams.
So, the Lakers just made a signing, bringing in a three and D guard Zaheer Williams from
the Brooklyn Nets over in a one-year deal, and this was a much-needed move for the Los
Angeles Lakers that is looking to upgrade in their perimeter defense and their youth
and athleticism.
Before we get into that, guys, I want to bring up our sponsor, and that is PrizePix.
PrizePix is the number one sports picking app and the best way to get into the action.
We're going to have some crazy picks later on in the show, but make sure you guys download
the app using the link in the description and that pinned comment there.
When you use that code, Digest, when signing up today, new users will get $50 instantly
and a line-up to play for the first $5.
It just helps out the channel a ton, guys, and we'll be bringing you those picks later
on in the show.
But back to our main story here, and that is about Zaheer Williams, who the Lakers just
signed here as reported by Shams Rani of ESPN, signed for that one-year deal of $3 million,
and around the minimum for a guy like Zaheer Williams.
And this is a very good value add, I think, for the Lawsons Lakers squad, because you're
going to get a guy who has a ton of upside, and he's only 24 years old, and he can add
some to your defense and ethicism there on the wing, which is sorely lacking for the
Lawsons Lakers after their flurry of moves.
And the only guy on the roster who I really trust to defend me, guys, maybe is Jake LaRavia,
if that.
So, Zaheer Williams is really going to add to this team's ethos there, and then we'll
see what happens with the next move here coming up.
But the Lakers are now currently at 15 roster spots, so their team is currently filled as
is with NBA players, so if they're going to make another move, it is going to have to
be via trade here, and that is the only way the Lakers are going to have to get off of
some of these contracts here, as that would be their next steps.
But for a guy like Zaheer Williams, like I said, this, I think, is a very good get for
the Lawsons Lakers squad, and really adds to their youth and defense.
And that gets me to my next point here, as what Williams brings to the team.
As Zaheer Williams is going to be a guy coming into a situation where, you know, he's going
to be playing for his next contract, essentially, so there's going to be a lot of motivations
for a guy like Zaheer Williams to really play his best basketball.
And he's coming back home to where he's used to, as some of you do know, he did play for
Sierra Canyon all those years ago with Bronny James, who is still, as of today, currently
on the roster.
So, that is a little bit of an old relationship being rekindled there.
And then, for the Lawsons Lakers, like I said, bringing to the team, he brings that defense
athleticism.
And he had a solid three-point shot last season, as he shot about 34% there, and this is more
from the tweet from Shams Rania, as what Zaheer Williams can bring.
As he said, the Lakers have reached a deal with Williams, this is according to their
agent there, Aaron Mitz.
And it addresses their wing depth, as LA continues to still pursue Jonathan Kaminga at the potential
starting forward spot, a source tells ESPN.
While Williams averaged 10.2 points per game in 22 minutes for the Nets last season, and
he enters his sixth year in the NBA there.
And he was a pretty solid offensive player, was a guy that can, obviously, he can get
downhill, can be a guy that can shoot the three ball, but not at a very efficient clip
there.
Like I said, he shot only 34% from the field, which is a respectable percentage there, and
it's probably going to go up, especially with the amount of open shots that he's going to
get playing next to guys like Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves there, and also have Dolan
Cullen-Sexton into that, because he can get guys open for shooters well enough, too.
So there is going to be opportunity for a guy like Zaheer Williams to really play in
this formation for the Lawsons Lakers, because they don't have that wing defense, and he's
just a huge guy, too.
He's got a lot of length to him, he's 6'9", kind of 6'10", with shoes, I think, so he's
got a lot of size, good wingspan to help you guard there on the perimeter, or even guard
there on the wing.
So just a lot of different places where you can use a guy like Zaheer Williams, can guard
from two to four.
So really good versatility, especially defensively.
We'll see what happens offensively, and that can be unlocked, hopefully, playing next to
these great playmakers in Luka Doncic and Austin Reeves, but the Lakers, I think, got
very good value at, especially at this price and this point of the offseason here.
So it's going to be hard to find those perimeter guys who play a high-level defense and can
knock down a three-point shot, but you're hoping that Zaheer Williams can fit that bill
for you, because if he can, he's going to really push how high the ceiling can get for
this Lawsons Lakers team here.
So that is a very nice gift for the Lakers.
And there's another thing that I wanted to bring up here, because Shamshraniya mentioned
this here, and that was our next topic here, as Kaminga is still on the Lakers' radar,
as this is going to be probably the next move for the Lawsons Lakers, but there is a lot
of things kind of holding this up in the situation, but first and foremost, mainly, is this situation
is probably not going to happen until what happens with LeBron James gets resolved.
So LeBron James still, as of today, as of this taping, has not picked his team just
yet, but whenever he does, that should essentially let all these other dominoes fall, and a guy
like Jonathan Kaminga is going to be another domino, as a team like the Lawsons Lakers,
who have been very in on the services, as I said before in that tweet, that is what
Shamshraniya said.
And then this was another report from Dan Woelke here, talking about how there's people
within the Lakers organization who thought it was either not possible to have Zaheer
Williams and Jonathan Kaminga adding to their youth, depth, and athleticism here, and so
for the Lakers to possibly not even think of having both of these guys available now,
can possibly get both of these guys on the team this year, and play pivotal roles for
the Lakers is just huge for this team, especially when you are trying to find those guys who
are young, athletic, rangy, can defend, and B guys can possibly knock down a three-point
shot, and also possibly B guys can be wing defenders for you.
So this is a huge get for the Lakers, especially if he pans out and Zaheer Williams, and if
Jonathan Kaminga can also make his way over here, this is obviously going to have to be
via sign-and-trade, because the Lakers are now out of cap space, and with all the signings
that they just made official with everybody they just brought in, they're not going to
have the cap space necessary to sign Kaminga outright.
So it has to be a sign-and-trade, and they'll have to be sending out some money to get Kaminga
in return.
So that's probably going to be a package of maybe a Jared Vanderbilt, or a Hardy, or
Dalton Kinect.
One of these players, or two or three of these players, is going to take, it's going to be
what it takes to get a deal done for a guy like Jonathan Kaminga, which I think would
be the final piece for the Los Angeles Lakers.
But I promised you guys some pics here later on the show, and yes, the NBA season is off
right now, but the WNBA is going on right now, and one name I'm looking at is Kalia
Copper.
Right now she's got a game in a few.
Bryce Picks has her at 3.5 rebounds.
This is an easy one for me, because Kalia Copper in her past five has been averaging
over five rebounds per game, about five rebounds per game there, so this is a good choice to
go more here, because I do think Kalia Copper is going to get more than three and a half
rebounds.
And then another player that I was looking at here is my favorite rookie, Olivia Miles
here.
Right now Bryce Picks has her at 15 field goal attempts in her game today, but I think
she is a good chance to go more on that one as well, as in her last five she's been averaging
16.2 points.
So that's all you do for Bryce Picks, just hit more or less while you're choosing here,
and it is very simple guys, and just remember guys to use that code there, like I said,
digest when signing up today, as you usually get $50 insulin allowance from playing for
the first $5.
Just remember, when you guys play, to play responsibly.
So, that's going to be it for this video guys, let us know in the comments down below what
you think of the signing of Zaheer Williams, and do you think he can add to this Laker
team in their youth, depth, and wing defense?
Or were you looking at maybe more other Polish guys, maybe were you guys looking at a Matisse
Stiebel, or maybe were you guys looking at, say, like a Josh Hikogi, who signed elsewhere,
or a Bruce Bowen, somebody of that nature.
Let us know in the comments down below, and also what you think about Jonathan Kaminga.
I've been your host, Okeechi Pakuma, and I'll catch you guys on the next one.
