AI GeneratedReports suggest the San Jose Sharks are exploring a potential trade for Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. While the move could provide an immediate elite presence in net to align with the team's competitive window, concerns remain regarding the high cost of assets and Hellebuyck's age relative to the team's long-term prospects.
An NHL insider drops a massive bombshell on the Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks trade talks for
Connor Hellebuyck. In this video, we're gonna break down everything about this report, talk about a mock trade,
talk about what Greer had to say about the goaltending, what Elliott Freeman had to say about why it makes sense for a fit for
him in San Jose, and so much more. You should not want to miss this episode of Sharks Digest.
But before we dive into everything here, just want to say, we're on the road for 3,000 subscribers here on the channel.

But we got a huge report today on Connor Hellebuyck, and I'm not gonna lie,
I thought a couple weeks ago, we were out of this.
I thought, you know, we weren't gonna be linked to Hellebuyck ever again.
But here we go today.
Elliot Freeman drops a massive bombshell on the talks with San Jose, and this is what he had to say.
He said the Sharks have reportedly kicked the tires on a potential trade for Connor Hellebuyck.
They also say here, it's unclear which team initiated the talks,
but he believes San Jose makes a lot of sense as the landing spot for the net monitor,
giving their window of contention lines up with Hellebuyck's. And this is what
Freeman actually had to say about this. He said,
I think Hellebuyck looks at this window as two or three years to kind of compete.
That's when he's going to be at his absolute peak. That's why Buffalo was on his list, for example.
But now he has to say, I just think the question about San Jose is, do you think you can win in that time?
And I think with Hellebuyck, they're much closer. If I was him, I'd take my chances there.
Wow, like I can't believe this.
I can't believe that we are talking about the San Jose Sharks kicking the tires on a trade for Connor Hellebuyck.
I think this kind of comes after Askaroff had a great showing in his first preseason game.
I think the Winnipeg Jets were kind of thinking, yeah, we can, we can work with this guy.
And now it seems like team, the negotiations are picking back up and
it seems like we may see a trade where Connor Hellebuyck is wearing the teal, which is absolutely
absurd. Like I'm not on board with this trade at all. I like the goaltending we have right now in Askroff and Nadelkovic.
I really think that we can go with that tandem into this season, get into the playoffs and make some noise.
I really do believe that, especially from what we've seen from Askroff. I know Connor Hellebuyck's a Vezna winning goaltender.
He's a great goaltender in this league. There's no doubt about it. He's coming off a down year.
Let's just take a look at his stats. He had an 8-9-5 last year, 23 wins, 23 losses.
Yeah, you know, he had a bad year, right? And the Winnipeg Jets had a bad year in general.
But, you know, we're going out risking, you know, some key pieces.
They want a top six forward back, a goaltender back, and a first-round pick back.
That's a lot to give up for an aging goaltender in Connor Hellebuyck, who in three years time may be
obsolete in that position. And I know the big thing surrounding this that kind of makes it make sense in my mind is that
Ravensburgen is probably three years away from being a star starting goaltender for our franchise.
And I do think that if we do make this trade for Hellebuyck, career knows that, okay,
we can get three good years out of one of the best goaltenders in the league. Then we have, you know,
we're taking a risk. We think Ravensburgen's gonna be our guy in three years.
So let's take that risk and try to win one now while Celebrity's, you know, having an unreal,
had an unreal year last year and going into a year where he's gonna have another unreal year.
And we kind of have a veteran roster where we're kind of in win now mode a little bit, right?
Like we kind of have a couple aging defenders in Nurse and Truba.
You know, we got some, you know, aging Fords in Marchment and to Foley. Like maybe we go out get an aging goaltender
and we try to go for it this year because we got a mix of youngsters and
veterans who are really
wanting to get back into the playoffs. And a team like that getting into the playoffs for the first time in forever,
it's gonna be dangerous. They're gonna make a lot of noise.
I think they could go on a run in the playoffs with Connor Hellebuck in the cage.
But one thing is about Hellebuck is, is he hasn't been solid in the playoffs.
You know, he hasn't never been hot and that's one thing that is concerning as well when you're talking about this.
But I do want to talk about what Mike Greer had to say about the goaltending before we get into the mock trade.
He said, for whatever reason, Ashcroft's not at the top of his game to start the year.
I think we're more comfortable with Ned.
He also says we're lucky to have him and Comrie down as number three to give us good depth
so we can feel good where our goaltending is. But he also had to say this as well.
It's probably the most depth we had since I've been here.
So it's exciting, but it's no different than any other position out there, right?
If something pops up and I feel like it can improve the team and help us better the team and it makes sense not
only in the short term, but in the long term, then I'm always open to exploring.
And I think he's kind of reiterating what I just said was, yeah, we know it helps us now.
We can compete now with Halibut, but we know in the future we have Ravensburgen who's ready to go as well.
So, you know, you give Ashcroft, what is he, like 27 years old now, maybe 28.
So three years out of Ashcroft is going to bring him to at least like 30, 31.
I still think that's a good window for Ravensburgen to take over and have an Ashcroft Ravensburgen tandem.
But I know it doesn't really make sense to make this trade, but it does make sense with what moves
Mike Greer has made getting all these veterans.
It kind of seems like he's gearing up for a big season for us.
And this is kind of what the mock trade.
I kind of cooked up here.
I kind of seen online as well.
We obviously get the Sharks receiving Connor Halibut in this and the Jets receiving Colin
Graff, Ashcroft for a first or a second.
And, you know, I'm kind of fine with that.
I think obviously Colin Graff just signed extension.
I really like the swag line that we're seeing right now.
And I like Graffer, but we do have a surplus of wingers right now.
So getting rid of Graff in this, you know, you know, I'd hate to see him go, but for
bringing Connor Halibut, yeah, sure.
We'll see it.
Then we have Ashcroft or the first or second, you know, obviously Winnipeg is going to want
to goalie in return.
They're going to want to get Ashcroft, who's, you know, just had a great preseason game.
And he's a guy who will come in with Stuart Skinner over there and rock a good tandem
there.
But I do just want to take a look at what the San Jose Sharks would look like after
this trade.
I'll bring it up a little bit bigger for you guys.
We see here Marchment celebrating Smiths as the top line.
Sure to shop me set to Foley.
Graff kind of comes out of there.
We kind of get to Foley back on the second line.
We have Stenberg, Wenberg and Sherwood as the third line.
You know, we don't have the swag line anymore, but I think that Stenberg with a, you know,
goal scorer in Sherwood would be great.
I mean, Sherwood was proven to be a good goal scorer in his time in Vancouver.
We see him score a few goals here.
So having Stenberg is a great playmaker with him would make sense.
Then we have Goodrow at stop chucking.
God, that kind of the fourth time we were rocking last year there.
And the defense stays the same.
Cagnone.
I got him shifted on the right side here now playing with Orloff from what we've seen in
Cagnone on the right side here with Orloff, which we've seen in the preseason.
And then we have a Hellobuck starting in the net with Nadelkovic backing up.
The lineup still looks really good going into the season after this trade.
So it's very interesting to talk about a trade and to hear this late.
You know, we're almost into the season now.
We're two preseason games away from hitting the season October the 1st.
I mean, we're like less than a week away now almost.
And we're hearing about a potential Connor Hellobuck trade.
It's very interesting to me that we're talking about this to me.
If you're asking me, what do I think about it?
I don't think we make this trade.
I don't think we really need to.
I think keeping Graf and Askrof will be great.
I think Graf is going to blossom into a great player for us over the next couple of years.
And I think Askrof is going to have a 900 plus year this year.
I really have a lot of faith in him in the cage.
I mean, if we go into the year and it's a little bit shaky,
the Winnipeg Jets still have Hellobuck suspended and he's not playing.
Then maybe we kick the tires again and say,
Askrof's been a bit shaky.
Let's make this deal happen.
And then we go out and get him, right?
So it's going to be interesting to see how this season,
how this situation unfolds.
Will we see Hellobuck in the teal?
How do you guys feel about this trade?
I know a lot of you guys hate it.
Some of you guys love it.
There's not every day the chance to get a Vezna winning goalie comes across the table.
And it seems like it's coming across the table again.
And this is what I just said.
I really think the best way to go about this is you go into the season.
If Askrof is struggling, okay, you make the trade then.
And then you kind of fix that problem and fix that hole.
So let's see how this works out.
I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts.
