The discussion focuses on their current AHL production, their specific roles, and the \"readiness tests\" they must pass to succeed at the NHL level.
The San Jose Sharks have multiple hidden gems
as there's been some great performances from
some of our players in the Barracuda
that are just waiting to be called up.
In this video, we're going to break down
our top four players coming out of the Barracuda
that we could see this season.

But with that said, let's dive into everything here today
and dive into some San Jose Barracuda players
who we've seen in the preseason that all had great preseasons
with us that ultimately didn't crack the roster,
but in an event of an injury, we could see call up.
And these guys have been having great starts to the year here.
So let's start it off with a guy we all know pretty well,
and that's Philip Bysett.
I'm pretty sure all of us know Philip Bysett
and how good of a player he is,
but he keeps building on his call-up case here.
And if we just kind of take a look at his timeline this season,
he led the Barracuda in scoring last year with 60 points.
He reached his 100th NHL point back in October the 4th with two goals
and an assist in San Diego.
and then we've seen him October 16th on Friday scores
his fourth goal in a 5-4 win over the
Wranglers so he's been having a great start to the year
and we kind of total all this together
here now just kind of take a look at his stats
so far this season he has six points four goals
two assists like we said last year he led the team
with 60 points right now projected to hit 72 this
year 48 goals 24 assists
so that's great to see Philip Bysett continuing his goal scoring way
is continuing to be that player we all know he can
be and just looking at how he kind of fits
you know on the Sharks I consider him
when the San Jose Sharks need offensive help I give him
a defined role in regular shifts is how
to keep you know that momentum going for Bysshe and
judge his play away from the puck alongside his scoring as well
and just kind of looking at the
readiness test for him it's just can he create
against NHL pressure I think he can can he earn
trust without the puck you know i think Bysshe has proven
that at the NHL level just not he's just
not a full any time NHL yet but i definitely think
he'll get there would a call-up offer more than a
seat in the press box obviously like i said
in the event of an injury i definitely think that would
be the case for Philip Bysshe
but just kind of looking at while we're thinking here my choice
for a prospect audition uh if suitable forward uh
forward uh role option uh opens like i like i said
If something opens here where we need Bysshe in this lineup,
I would like to see him up then.
But for now, keep him down there until we really need him.
And then when he comes up, he can take advantage of this opportunity
and try to stay up here full-time.
Another guy we've seen in the preseason was Andre Gasso,
who has been scoring really well since
his time in the Barracuda this season.
Look, we see him score twice against Calgary on October the 14th.
Then in Friday's game, he did score again against Calgary.
So he's got four, that was his fourth goal
on the season on Friday as well.
Just kind of looking at his early totals here.
We see six, yeah, four goals, one assist.
For him, last year was the captain of Boston College.
He had 23 points for them as well.
He's projected on pace right now to hit 60 points
this year with 48 goals and 12 assists.
So it's great to see, obviously, Gasso keep contributing here.
obviously is transitioning over from um you know
the college level to pro hockey he had a great
preseason with us i thought he looked good
in the rookie face-off as well uh but yeah we're
seeing him uh keep continuing his success down here
in the barracuda and i really hope he keeps
it up it's just the guy i would like to see
at some point this season uh Gasso must sustain it
is a big thing right candid uh to watch
if the sharks need finishing again look for repeatable
chances alongside the goals assess
his full game before promoting him just you know kind of make
sure that he is ready to go and you don't want to kind of bring him up
and then you know shake his
confidence by him not performing well
or sitting in the press box I'm looking at his readiness test
does he does the scoring continue beyond
the Calgary series I really think it will can he
create chances when the space disappears
and can he contribute when he does not score and I think
he can I think Gasso when we seen him
in the rookie face-off at least our rookie showdown he
looked good I thought he had a solid performance for us
and I this is a guy to definitely keep on
your radar going for this season
and then obviously we got another guy who's kind of familiar to us
and that's Jimmy Huntington a veteran option a guy
who I really like to be honest with you guys
thought he had a good preseason with us he was named
a Barracuda captain on October 2nd and then
he added three assists to his total on October 16 against
the Wranglers now he has three goals
four assists for seven points on the season
so great to see Huntington pick up where he left off
And you see here, last year he had 48 points, 15 goals.
Now this year, 7.3 goals, 4 assists, like we mentioned.
On pace right now to have 123 points.
I don't think that's going to happen.
I think maybe this projection is broken.
But yeah, definitely some great early production here
from Jimmy Huntington.
And I think this is a guy that when a call-up does arise,
we will see him be the one that's
call-up, just because he has that veteran presence.
And obviously, match his call-up case to the available forward job.
the way he's experienced alongside current production from him as well,
and compared the opportunity with keeping prospects in major AHL roles.
So I think Huntington would be great to kind of bring up.
Obviously, you know, in an event of an injury,
we never want to see that.
But if this is a guy who could easily slot in on the fourth line
and really, you know, go to work with a stop-checking graph,
I really do like Huntington a lot as well.
So if there is something and we get to see him this year,
I would be very grateful to see
that because I think he's a great player.
then the next test is does the NHL vacancy match
his game obviously if we're losing someone um you
know that doesn't match how Huntington plays
then maybe we'll go for another one of these guys on
the list will he regularly uh play if uh
if recalled uh he would regularly play in instance
of an injury all this is just kind
of an injury I don't really think that any of these guys will
get called up just to take a roster spot from like Goodrow
or Gaudette when he comes back but
uh if there's injuries these guys would definitely
be called up can he turn his
AHL production into useful
NHL shifts. And I think every time we've seen
Huntington at that level, he has been
putting in good shifts. So I don't
worry about this. And the next guy I want to talk about
is a guy who's probably my favorite on the list
and that's Brett Leeson. He pushes for another
opportunity. This is a guy who obviously
he cleared waivers to go
back down to the Barracuda on
October the 9th. He scored and
added an assist on October 14th
and two points against Calgary. Then again, Friday
he scored on the power play for a goal
in consecutive games against Calgary, which is
great to see it's great to see
when Brett Leeson was up I thought he was one of the big standouts
for me in this preseason the guy really made a name for himself
and impact on me and how I view
his game he really came in made some great plays I remember there
was one play where he chipped it
uh you know had a little swat at it
with the stick chipped it over the defenseman and then really
just found his his line mates cutting down the middle of the ice
and you know from that moment
I was kind of a Brett Leeson guy and I really do like this guy
and I think if anybody needs to be
called up this year you can really rely
on Brett Leeson he's just such a great player offensively
defensively in the neutral zone I found him
to be a great 200 foot player and I know a lot of you
guys who've been watching the Barracuda
and have realized this as well I really do like it and just
kind of looking at his point total this year
in four games he has four points he's on pace to get
70 points this year 35 goals 34 assists
so yeah we're hoping that Leeson can go forward here
and try to you know bolster his case for being called up
and this is a guy who I think we 100%
will see at some point this season just
because of how much of an impression he left on us and
the coaching staff and he's a guy
who they're going to rely upon for sure especially if injuries
do arise throughout the season
but just kind of looking at how all of these prospects would fit
uh you know leeson belongs
in a depth recall discussion obviously Bissett leads to my prospect
audition list for sure i think Bissett is a great goal scorer
and i definitely think it would
transition to the NHL level we got Gasol can climb
by sustaining his scoring if Gasol can keep
contributing and having these big games against other opponents
in the AHL this is a guy to keep
on your radar for sure Huntington gives San Jose
another experience option like I said if they need
a guy to just come in and do a job Huntington is a guy
who'll come in and do whatever a coach needs
and that and I really like that about him
so that's kind of what he brings to the table as well
so I want to hear your guys thoughts down below
in the in the comment section who are you bringing up
if you have the opportunity is it either Bissett Gasol Huntington
or leeson let me know down
below in the comment section for me right now i'm backing leeson 100
but i want to hear your
guys thoughts down below while you're down there leave
a like subscribe to the channel as always
i've been your host kc keep your stick on the ice
