This is Ben Newsome from Jays, an NBA insider, it's a shock
a surprising Mavericks trade report.
And with the regular season just around the corner, there's
a very interesting name that has just been linked to the Mavericks.
And something big is brewing for this team.
We're gonna break down that report
and discuss what it means going forward,
as well as a bunch of other updates ahead
of what's going to be a crazy regular season
with the team looking really, really good,
chemistry being there, vibes are high.
But before we get into all of it, and there is a lot to discuss today,
a very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button
if you guys are in peace with the support.
Now, Jace, there's a lot to talk about today,
and a report dropped yesterday, and let's dive right into it.
It is surrounding Karl-Anthony Towns, and you might be saying,
Nick, Jace, what on earth are you talking about?
You can see here, an anonymous executive labels the Bulls
and the Clippers as a potential landing spot,
or rather potential landing spots for Karl-Anthony Towns
if he doesn't sign a deal with New York.
Only a few possible suitors stand out
to me right now in terms of cap space and fit.
Chicago and the Clippers are the cleanest path.
but the Nets can get there with the money.
But Golden State and Dallas could get around $50 million
in space with more tinkering.
So, Jays, this has kind of gone, not viral,
but a bunch of Mavericks fans are talking
about it for a few different reasons.
One, it's obviously an opportunity for the next offseason
for the Mavericks to kind of be able to pounce and sign a deal.
But I think potentially more interestingly here
is the potential of a trade
if the Knicks want to dump them.
You can see here the Mavericks owners, for all their faults,
have the pockets they don't care about spending if the Knicks
or someone have to dump a high level
player the Mavericks can easily take advantage of it
and this is where the Mavericks have a very
interesting opportunity to go ahead
and if it ends up being the dumper perspective I think it's
a golden opportunity to go after Karl-Anthony Towns
and if it ends up being of course from
the free agency side of things they can spend the money
and a lot of fans I think actually are
coming around to the idea, we'll dive into kind of the fit in a minute
but how do you feel about
this, Jason, it's true there's not a lot of teams
that can take advantage of it but i think pairing
Cooper Flagg with Karl-Anthony Towns is quite the interesting go
but a lot of it will depend on how
this team does because this is a move you make if you
if you feel like you're one or two pieces away
yeah i think it really just does depend how
the first couple months of the season goes
for the Mavericks and also for the Knicks
because there is like that slight possibility that
you know Cat comes out here and starts to have a career here
and all of a sudden you're thinking
okay well maybe the Knicks do decide to give him
the money that he's been asking for but as of
right now kind of i want to say that the Mavericks
are in a position where they feel like they can go
out there and spend money like i think they still
are working towards it but i want to go back to
the one tweet that you showed
because there's something underneath it with Loring Gunn and i
wish with the full tweet but i'll kind
of summarize it basically what she says is get used yeah there
you go get used to Dallas being in these conversations
because of where they are they're
willing to go out there and spend they're willing
to go out there maybe even go into the second
apron for a winning team
because they have a superstar and Cooper Flagg
And I think the one thing about saying
and putting so much into Kyrie Irving
is proving that we are in a win now window that right now,
I understand what happened last season.
We were a lottery pick,
whatever it might be.
We feel as though this team can go out there and can compete.
And I,
I fully am right there with him in the Western Conference is very,
very solid,
but I think there's a lot of teams
that the Mavericks are better than that.
They're not getting enough credit for.
Yeah.
And there's one tip as well.
And I've been to,
but first very quick note from our sponsor,
Anson Belt throws a great outfit off fast,
an old beat-up belt that just doesn't fit right most guys
are still wearing belts with stretched out holes
that either pinch your waist or sag and throw off
your entire look and that's why i'm excited to have Anson Belt
and Buckle as the sponsor of today's
video and instead of holes Anson uses
a micro adjustable track system with quarter inch increments
so your belt fits perfectly every single time you can see
the belt here the quality is amazing my
favorite part is the buckle it is truly one of a kind
and once you experience that kind of fit and
comfort you'll never want to go back to wearing
a regular belt again i've been wearing mine
non-stop and it's the best i've ever owned
and if you're wondering why you should trust them this
is a company that's still proudly family-owned
and operated has earned over 40 000 five-star
reviews i found one talking about how it was amazing for gifting
and the packaging is just
incredible i agree the package is put together great amazing
for gifting and they back their
belts with a lifetime guarantee on functionality
so they stand behind every product they make
also because Anson Belt and Buckle is sponsoring today's video
when you click the link in the
description or scan the QR code on screen to build
a box set you get two bonus pieces a buckle and a
strap completely free that's three buckles three straps
which can be mixed and matched into nine
unique unique belt combos all in one box it's
an exclusive deal folks you will find nowhere else
so click the link build your set
and upgrade your belt game today thank you once again Anson for
sponsoring this one make sure to check them out
but uh Jason made an interesting point so obviously
there's also a lot of stuff going
on with the next side like they aren't coming close obviously
the Dallas has been named as a future bidder potential
for a trade obviously the Mavericks
would have to use a bunch of uh maneuvers
to get around the cap no no negotiations are confirmed
right now but Towns himself is disappointed
in where things currently stand he said it was news
to me on the extension pause very disappointed to say the least
and i think for a team that
just won a championship championship sorry it's a little bit surprising
but like he's a very very
good player and I mean he's only 30 years old
so it's not like he's in an insane spot to where
he's not good enough to you know lead a team to a championship
because he obviously helped
he does have an option as well we can see here 20
points 11 rebounds shoot he shoots really well
from three and I feel like he would just kind
of be a good shooter for the Mavericks now the big
question will be how does he fit
this team how much would it cost to get him if it's a dump
sure right he's very very good in the pick
and roll he fits Kyrie Irving's kind of play style
perfectly so do you believe internally that Kyrie
and Cooper Flagg are good enough to win a
championship or at least like push for one
if so i think it's a deal you make um especially with
Kyrie Irving as you know he's not getting any younger
but there's a lot of cap implications
he obviously has that uh that option um right there as well
but it's a player option so it's
gonna be a wild wild ride
but the offensive fit seems pretty seamless i mean great pick and roll
guy great three-point shooter not a good defender
um and that might be a question but they still
have a hole that kind of four and five spot
and i think he would fill it pretty well well and here's
the biggest thing to me it honestly may come down to the Mavericks
and looking at what they have in
the center position because long term here uh you want
to have Cooper Flagg at that small forward
position and you look at what you have in the power forward
or center position which you know
more likely to play center if Lively can come back
and be the guy that we saw his rookie year
then i think this immediately goes down the wayside
and that must side doesn't even consider
it but if Lively can't come back healthy
or if he comes back and doesn't look the same or if Gafford
struggles to or if Gafford gets a trade that you can't refuse
then there is a lot of options for
you to go in here and move on from Derek Lively
while getting Karl-Anthony Towns and extending
him right away again it would take some financial maneuvering
to kind of figure out the best way to
do that but i don't think the Mavericks are scared
of going into the first apron or even past that so
right now you have some opportunity to go out there
and spend your again nine million dollars
on a luxury tax they're a lot under the second apron
so you can kind of maneuver yourself into a
good spot but i think that for Karl-Anthony Towns it's
not about how good of a player he is it's not
about if the Mavericks you know
this this or that i think it's more about one what do we have at the
center position with Derek Lively two how willing
are the Knicks to actually give him to us for a
reputable trade price because we're not going
to give up you know major things for him if we're
going to have to sign him too
and then three um you know how exactly do those negotiations go with
the Knicks and them with other teams.
You know,
is there people
who would be willing to give up more than the Mavericks?
And is he worth $60 million a year or whatever he'll get beyond that?
That's the question.
A lot of it comes down to the roster decisions.
So comment down below where you guys kind
of view it and whether or not you
think the Mavericks should make a big move for Karl-Anthony Towns,
or if they should wait for free agency,
could be via trade.
Now could be via free agency.
It's going to reach a boiling point here soon.
So I want you guys to leave a comment down below.
Thank you guys for watching.
See you later.
