I Didn't Wake Up As Mad at the Padres as I Thought I'd Be...

I gotta be real with you guys.
I didn't wake up as mad at the Padres today as I thought I would.
If I need to put a little subheader in there,
it would be I'm still bummed and pissed at some of them,
and Austin Hayes is going to catch some strays, and all of the other things
that I I would this will be a somewhat gripe but melancholy appreciative episode.
Padres digest. What's going on, everybody?
Christian Peterson back with another episode of the show.
That's going to bring you daily content still all off season long, no matter what.
Even if we have to go through a Dodgers another World Series run.
Uh, maybe a man should joke. Joke. Not bring politics into this. Um.
Like I said.
I woke up this morning, not nearly as angry as I thought I would.
Last night, plenty of fire. This guy, what the hell?
That guy, cut and trade. This guy, type texts flying around, but.
Uh, maybe, and I want to hear from all of you.
You guys have been a great fan base through this ride,
not just in the postseason, but getting to the postseason,
which I think is part of what I wanted to just sit back and look.
I don't need to recap all hundred and eighty games
or whatever it was that we played, but.
I think starting with last night.
The boys had some fighting. We've had seasons in on complete.
We're just by the fifth. You're like dog.
This thing is so. There was multiple times last night where we guys
on and I turned to my wife and I was like, I'm going to turn this off.
This is about to get ugly. I can't watch it like that.
And we would get out of it. And the pitching chaos was insane to watch.
And there was so much second guessing in real time.
But in reality, that up three runs in an NLDS game
to one of the best teams in baseball. Not a bad result.
On the offensive end, Manny bunted for a hit.
That's great. That's fantastic.
We stopped hitting after that, but then he comes up with what like what
are the what are the absolute bleeping chances of another raw home run issue?
And it's not to be like, well, if you've given the Ty France home run
and you've given the Manny home run, then we're actually up through. We lost.
I'm not here to cope. I'm not here to be like play the what ifums and what isms.
But our superstars did superstar things.
We just.
Didn't have quite as much as a team that I think has a very good chance to go
on to win the World Series, and well, it's not something where I'm like,
oh, guaranteed that it makes it hurt less that that you lose to the team
that wins the World Series, but same time, like we didn't drop the ball to.
You know, this wasn't like.
We we had the this this isn't the this isn't maybe the right metaphor.
This this isn't March Madness where we didn't.
We weren't a one seed that just got unseated by a six seed.
We weren't Kentucky losing to UNBC.
Like this. This wasn't something like that. We were a really good baseball team.
We lost a series to another really good baseball team.
Fought really well, I think. Managed really well, and for those of you
that want to hop on social and pump out your AI slop graphics with being like,
we pay all this money, and all these guys ever do is lose, lose, lose, lose.
No, no, no, no. Lose, lose, lose, lose, lose is the Rockies.
Lose, lose, lose, lose, lose is a hundred games for the. You know, is the is the.
Angels losing a hundred games for the first time in franchise history
while having the greatest center fielder.
History of baseball.
Lose, lose, lose, lose, lose is Ryan Klesko and Phil Nevin
and Brian Giles combining for jack all in the mid 2000s.
Lose, lose, lose, lose is a lot of other things than what we've got.
Sure, could you make the argument that?
Other teams have spent.
A little bit less money and had better results. Yeah. Okay. Great. Baseball is a.
Sport and I don't want to be all the like I played it at elite level and you didn't.
I've been around some championship teams though, and I,
for my personal experience, all of the teams that I thought were going to win
the college world series that I was around, we didn't, and the one after.
Uh, Garrett Cole and Trevor Bauer left.
It doesn't make sense sometimes. It's situational sometimes.
It's who you play, when you play them, and why you play them.
And we've seen that we're better at home, and we play a lot better at home.
And I think if I'm really going to be like.
Let's nitpick at something.
My indictment and gripe with Craig Stammen would be Austin Hayes.
I I would have put literally anybody else there.
Dustin, the dude Harris, I would I would have taken Jace Bone.
I would have taken Ethan Salas. I would have taken Freddie for me.
I would have taken anybody over the guy
who had not had a hit in the entirety of the postseason.
But if we're looking at it through the lens of oh, there's one spot in the roster
or in the lineup that was a complete useless offer. That's kind of a baseball thing.
Like that's not a necessarily singular to the Padres and their management thing.
So I don't think that anybody should be deserving of being fired.
And I hear that that makes me maybe like a Kum Bah Ya kind of Namby Pamby dude,
and maybe in my older age and now that I'm a dad
and I'm trying to be a little bit more tolerant and whatnot.
But I also think that this isn't something where like.
If we had lost three nothing and did not generate a hit.
Cool. Then we could talk about really needing to be like,
let's move on from some stuff. Let's let's hit.
Let's take a stick of dynamite, blow this whole thing up.
If I had to give my like real quick bullet points,
because I'll do other like trust me, you will be sick of me trying to restructure
this team in the off season and go deep dives into all this kind of stuff.
But if I had to do my quick little bullet points, a I would say I don't know what
this off season is going to look like because there's going to be some degree
of labor negotiations and whether that means a hard cap salary that we can't skirt
our way around with a luxury tax, having to you know just stay put for a little bit,
or if that means needing to trade guy, I just way too many hypotheticals.
I would say the number one thing that the Padres need is a better.
A better understanding of what the pitching situation is.
Not even to say that they need to go out and get.
X, Y, or Z because look, pitching chaos worked last night.
Pitching chaos worked all season. Pitching chaos, if.
If Joe Musgrove and Robbie Ray are part of our rotation next year,
and Nick Pavetta's there, Michael King is back,
and Randy Vasquez is the five, or and Walker Buehler, like if that,
if we have this group, like do we have these dudes? We have a good team.
We have a team that can make a fourth straight playoff appearance next year,
and we have a team that.
If if the six guys that I just listed.
Are all on our team?
We can have some of them sometimes give us good starts.
Some of them give us bad starts. Some of them give us spot opening starts.
We can do that pitching chaos thing,
but the Padres need to embrace it as a concept like beforehand and build it,
bake it into the cake as opposed to have it be reactionary. I I do like. I mean,
I wasn't stoked because I like you could tell that the rails were falling off.
But like bringing Mason Miller in in the way we did, and then Robbie Ray
and Musgrove, but don't Jason Adams over here, and then this guy's over there, like
that was Craig's stamina, not just sitting there and going, ah, well, we're losing.
I guess just let's let's trust so and so again.
And let's leave him out there for five. Timmy, oh no, he gave up five runs.
Well, we were already losing, and he's our guy.
Like, no man, I I have expected at one point last night,
Craig Stammeter just called two guys out at the same time and be like, no, no,
no, no, we're gonna let them both pitch from different sides of the mound.
And look, they're both foot on the like. Here's some obscure baseball.
He was cooking, man, and he was doing dynamic things and.
It like the Padres have a good fundamental team on that side.
So like, let's rebuild the bullpen a little bit.
Let's rebuild the starting rotation a little bit.
I'm sure AJ is gonna cook up some fun moves, but I think the core is there.
Yeah, it's gonna be a year older and more veteran and.
Okay, I don't love that, but I don't see a glaring hole unless it,
especially given that it's most likely not going to be something where Quanza
and Feliciano can just come in and be like, "Here's a zillion dollars,
let's go get every available free agent pitcher."
I think we're I think we're in an okay to pretty good spot.
We just got to acknowledge it going into the season the way that we didn't
this year, where we did it reactionary very late in the season,
and then by the time we got around to the playoffs, we're just a little tight.
We were, everyone was a little bit.
Not crisp from having worked really hard to get us there on the offensive side.
I would like to think that Ramon Laureano coming back next year will give us
a nice little bit of a righty bat out in that outfield spot, but.
I mean, we're pretty locked in on a fair amount of guys.
We also now next year we'll get a full season of Ethan Salas,
and whether or not he truly is some four hundred hitter, Gold Glover.
Truly, generational talent.
I think he's a good catcher. I think he's a catcher that the pitchers like.
I think he's a person who will be twenty-one years old,
and the clubhouse adores him and feeds off of his energy.
And having him in there full time with one of the two dudes, if not maybe both
of those dudes, and we just run three catchers for another year, and it's.
A great way to not have Salas be out there and re-injure his back,
do anything crazy that slows down his entire progression,
and lets him just you know, work his way into this thing
while still being in the clubhouse and being an asset for us. Great, then.
20 games in, 30 games in, 60 games in, whatever, jettison somebody. Think that.
Tai, France, is to me a key that we need to bring back.
The one position in all of this that I'd be like,
we need to have a discussion about.
Second base, I think that my.
Realize that I'm getting kind of long and all this and into the weeds,
and so I will just think that.
Jake might, as my ghostwriter Curtis said, Jake might be the new super utility guy.
I don't even think we need to get rid of him, and that's from like.
Keep coming back to. We're a good team. We had a good season.
I didn't wake up as mad as I thought I would.
So, thank you for letting me get that off the chest. Off my chest.
We're gonna have a lot of Padres content for you all off season long.
Go Friars. Keep the faith, everybody.
Greatly appreciate all of you joining our channel this season,
and hope you have a great rest of your day.
