His seat is already HOT...
Sep 19, 2026
His seat is already hot. So we already have a lot of question marks off of week one that
we weren't expecting. And they're basically everywhere. It's not really like, oh,
it's this one thing or that one thing needs to be fixed. It felt like everyone, which is
both a good and bad thing. I will say that today's video is going to be focusing on a specific
aspect that was new to the team, or two, kind of, that were basically disasters for the Monday
night game against Kansas City. Obviously, it's been a few days since really my game reactions
to the posted video. And honestly, I just knew needed like, I think a lot of Broncos fans kind
of want to just like forget about football for a few days, and just be like, let's just flush that
and just like, holy smokes, like just not even, it didn't even resemble anything that we've seen
from the Bo Nix era Broncos. It was, I would say, I mean, I said it the night of and I still stand
by this is probably the worst Broncos performance since or even equal to maybe even worse in some
aspects than the 70 to 20 game against the Dolphins. It was putrid on almost all levels.
So that hasn't really changed much. But we're gonna be focusing, we're gonna narrow in on what,
not necessarily, I mean, the tackling, that speaks for itself. I can't even really say too
much of like, I mean, the Broncos were able to recover defensively after the 70 point game in
the same season under Vance Joseph. That one, I, it's not that I'm expecting them to be a lot better
this season. But like, just, I would expect them to bounce back at least a little bit. There is
some stuff about Alex Singleton that maybe we'll do another video, but this one's gonna be focused
on Davis Webb. So make sure to subscribe, join the channel, join Broncos Digest. And without
further ado, let's kind of just jump into this thing. Because the Davis Webb was, his debut
was not what I expected in the slightest. So Scottie Payne from Mile High Report said that
it looked off from the very first snap. Nix, who had been historically good at avoiding sacks,
was sacked on the very first play and was sacked a total of four times last, well, last night,
but now being Monday night. He would go on to throw an ugly interception to end the opening drive
and finish the night with multiple turnovers, most of them being fumbles. Nix played one of the worst
games of his Broncos career, arguably his worst. Even after the Chiefs lost their starting rookie
was targeted five times and only had two receptions for 11 yards. Combined, the Broncos' top two
receivers in Waddell and Sutton totaled for three catches for 13 yards. That's not what you want.
The offensive line was also just as bad. So that's the thing. Being able to point the
it's kind of nice at the same point where, you know, the offensive line's like,
they can't be the ones who are like, ah, we did our job. It's just Bo Nix sucked. Like,
no, they were being ran all over, like just dominated on all fronts. Defensive line wasn't
getting the pressure they needed to. The tackling was abysmal. Like just, I mean,
the physicality, the mentality, it was, the Chiefs were so much more ready for the Broncos
than I had ever anticipated. The talent gap didn't matter in this game. Now, if Andy Reid was coaching
the Broncos, this probably would have been an even worse blowout or so in terms of the Broncos
being the winners. But listen, we don't have Andy Reid. We don't have Spagnuolo.
I think Sean Payton and Vance Joseph are worse versions of both. But that doesn't mean to say
that they're not good at their jobs, if not even great. I mean, they're respectively top 10 at
their jobs. But, you know, when you're dealing with guys who've been winning Super Bowls and
going to Super Bowls for a lot of the decade, that's just, it's another level. Now we, you know,
things worked out in our favor last season. It's a new season, new teams, new mentalities.
Mahomes didn't even play that well. And, you know, the Broncos just kind of collapsed upon
themselves. So it's just like, it just, and the offense was really the most shocking part of like
how poorly they played. You know, DNVR Broncos said that what NFL guys do not like is to get
embarrassed in any shape or form. This is from Dave Logan, the announcer for the Broncos.
That was an embarrassing performance. And I think the Broncos are made of the right stuff. I think
that they will bounce back. Dave is usually the optimist. So I do appreciate that side of things.
And granted, I mean, at this point, you've almost hit rock bottom. I mean, I don't want to say that
I'm actually knocking on wood because we actually managed to get out of there without injuries.
That was a miracle of itself, without any major injuries, that is. So, but at the same time,
now everyone's like, where do you go from here? You know, bounce back. That sounds great as an
idea, but where do you actually go from here? Bo said that he felt like the offense let Davis Webb
down, called it pitiful. We literally gave ourselves no chance to succeed. We're going to
be better. We have no choice. So there is that. I like that they're saying that there's no choice.
Zach Kelberman, you know what, I'm going to hold off on the Davis Webb stuff just in a second. I'm
just going to go back to like what's been going wrong. Specifically when it comes to like the
Denver rushing game, they had negative rushing plays. They had the second highest percentage of
negative rushing plays right only behind the Titans. That's not great. You know, I mean,
obviously this is just one game sample size, so it's not a huge indicator of anything. But at the
same time, like we thought, you know, the running game was bad under Sean Payton last year. Like
this was just another level of just like ineptitude, not being able to like, you know, work
together. Everyone just kind of like man for themselves. It was a rough look. And now we have
like a scary opponent in week two. We have no choice but to be better, not just because you
don't want to go in two, but because our six-week stretch here is brutal. We obviously blew game one,
but the next five games aren't much easier. So Sean Payton, unfortunately, is 0-6 in his last
six week two games and only 1-10 in his last 11 week two games. Week two is Sean Payton's
kryptonite, which is terrifying because it's like we have to like overcome what, you know,
the football gods are telling us is likely going to happen, which might be an L in our home opener
to the Jaguars. Trevor Judge said that Bowe was pressured on nearly half of his passes last night,
46%. That is obscene. League average is 34%. Broncos average last season was 19%.
That is such a drastic difference in the amount of times Bowe was pressured. You start to worry
like, okay, is something going on with the offensive line? Or like, were they just completely
out-coached and out-schemed by Spagnuolo? I would lean towards that because, you know,
the Broncos offensive line, they are great. They've been one of the best units in football
and one of the most cohesive and consistent units in terms of just like the guys who are
staying with the team, staying in their positions, just getting better year after year. So this was
just, it felt like I just didn't even recognize the team when I was watching that. It was honestly
insane watching that. But, and it comes to like also just not being able to use our stars.
Sayer Benninger from Predominantly Orange said after watching the game from the All-22
angle and dissecting the Broncos passing plays drawn up by offensive coordinator Davis Webb,
one thing is abundantly clear. The plan was to get Jaylen Waddell the football. The problem
with that plan started with the inability of the offensive line to properly protect Bowe Nix
and Nix's unwillingness to fire the ball in Waddell's direction. Waddell had fewer targets
in this particular game than all of Pat Bryant, Courtland Sutton, Evan Ingram, and RJ Harvey.
He was tied in the target department with tight end Adam Trotman. That is highly,
that is simply a failure on the part of the Denver Broncos coaching staff,
no matter how you slice it. Because Mansour Dillane, the top corner for the Chiefs,
was literally out after his interception. And it's just like, and that, like, there's just
no excuse why Waddell, I mean, listen, maybe Davis Webb is just really bad at adjusting and like,
just like he, like the pressure was starting to collapse on him. Sean was trying to like,
you know, make, you know, do his, uh, analysis of all these different things,
like what's going wrong. It's like a giant fire just went ablaze in a building and you're just
trying to put up all, put out all these different fires, personalities clashing. Like it wasn't like,
it didn't look like everyone was like mad at each other on the sideline. They were frustrated and
throwing helmets for sure, but it was more mad at themselves than anyone in particular. I still
believe this is a relatively together team. Now, again, the game plan was bad. We were not using
our stars. We were just trying to get some momentum going. It was not happening. The Chiefs
used their momentum against the Broncos all night. It was, I mean, listen, we got an interception in,
like that started us at the five yard line and we ended up only getting a field goal.
That was like a huge indicator. Like, this is just not our night. Like nothing is working.
Um, I thought it was going to be working when we got that Evan Inger, like when Bo responded
with his touchdown to Evan. But like after that, it was just, just fell off the cliff.
So that cannot happen. If the Jags get out to a fast start, which, you know, considering how good
their offense is, they might, um, the Broncos can not allow themselves to fall behind like they did
in this Chiefs game. Um, some people are already out on Davis Webb, uh, Joe Klatt from Fox Sports,
Fox Sports. He's mostly, uh, uh, a college, uh, an analyst who went to, you know, uh, CU Boulder.
Uh, but he said, how long do you give, uh, Davis Webb you're moving forward if you're Sean Payton
Well, I would give him about two days. I think I give him two days ago. I think as a coach,
you have to understand what your superpower is. Why are you in the position that you're in?
And for Sean, he's one of the better play cars that we've seen in football history.
If there's a rush more of a 10 or 15 play cars through history, wouldn't he be on it? Yeah.
I think he would. So Klatt's like this team is too talented to just allow yourself to
kind of like do away with all, all this success that the Broncos have been having over the past
few seasons and just getting better and better. Um, you know, CBS sports, uh, sorry. Uh, they
mentioned, uh, Davis Webb is going to be under the microscope a little bit for that performance.
That's, uh, understating it for sure. Um, however, the Broncos don't feel like the pressure
is nearly, um, as bad as the outside noise is making it seem even in rapid port was trying to
cool things down a little bit. Um, he said as good as a play caller, Sean Payton is, he's just
as good of an evaluator of coaches. He knows what he has in Davis Webb. I thought it'd be better.
Everyone thought it would be better, but it's not going to be a one week thing. Play calling is hard.
They didn't run the ball enough. The Broncos believe it's going to get better. I do not
believe this is a short term experiment for Denver. I agree. I think getting rid of Davis
Webb after just one really bad performance from everybody, like looking at that as just an
offensive failure is ridiculous. In my opinion, when the Broncos had the most missed tackles
in next gen stats history, ever since they started recording it, I think it was like 2017 or
something. There's never been more missed tackles in the game since that Monday night game. So it's
like, listen, it's, you cannot blame all of this on Davis Webb. It was a collective failure on all
fronts. A disaster in every way. And the Broncos, they have to move on to Jacksonville. They have
to. Well, I mean, they looked over the tape. They said that like, you know, it's, you know,
it's not as bad as, you know, it feels in the moment, but like, there's obviously a lot of
things to clean up. But like, I feel like so much of it is like a mental game where it's just like
the Broncos just spiraled and you could feel it, you could sense it, you could see it just playing
out. It was a, it was a rough watch. I mean, no one's going to be saying that like there was,
you know, anything to be happy about. Like, besides that, that second drive after the
interception, I was like, ooh, good, you know, good play calling, like good usage there.
Ingram getting the ball. I was like, okay, like this is like a good response from the team. Shows
like mental toughness in a, you know, a harder environment. But then, you know, just the Chiefs
were running all over the Broncos, out-physicaling us on both sides. I mean, Broncos are the more
talented team. It did not matter. And it usually doesn't matter when it comes to the NFL. If you
have the better coaches, it's going, you're probably going to win. And it's, it's a crazy
thing to say. You, at some point, talent will matter. You need starting caliber players.
And this comes back to like guys like Singleton being, you know, while he might be a good leader
of men, if he can't play on the field, then like there, there is a, that's, that's a reason why
the fans are so upset at him. And like, just like saying that like, this is going to hurt us
and stop us from maybe winning the big one. So that's something to keep an eye on.
And just overall, Davis-Webb, it's a learning experience. It's a very humbling experience.
It's kind of nice as a fan to be like, okay, we were like, oh, Super Bowl aspirations. We're
going to like, you know, bulldoze through everybody. We have all the right pieces.
Everyone's healthy. This is all great. Now we're still relatively healthy, but boy,
have those expectations been, been tempered. The Chiefs run this division right now because they
showed it. They, they proved it that even with all our pieces there and them missing their
starting left tackle and their starting corner, it did not matter. They can just
run all over us. Mahomes didn't even have to have that play that good of a game and it did not
matter. So, you know, how, how do the Broncos respond? This weekend is going to be very telling
whether we fall to 0-2 against a good Jaguars team or we overcome adversity, get our revenge from
last season, push to 1-1 and move forward in this tough six-week stretch. What do you guys think
about all this? Should Davis Webb be, you know, looking on the outside in about play calling?
Should Sean Payton take it back or is everyone overreacting? What do you guys think? Sound
off in the comments down below and until next video, I'll see you then.
