Welcome to the TMZ podcast.
Happy Monday.
Devin here with Courtney.
Hello.
Um, we're, you guys,
we're just going to mostly be discussing the Krista Pike stuff.
So obviously, um...
Not, how was your weekend or anything?
You're just getting right into it?
Right, right into it.
It's been a morning.
Yeah.
My weekend was, it was hot.
It was extremely hot here.
So I literally spent the whole weekend at the beach.
Yep.
What about you?
Kind of same.
Yeah.
Yeah, nothing, nothing super fun to report.
Um, yeah.
So Krista Pike, everyone knows about this story at this point.
She's the woman out of Tennessee who was put on death row.
They did the lethal, the two lethal injections,
and it didn't work.
Wild.
That in itself is like, I've just, like, don't they,
you would think they would have that figured out, no?
Like down to like a science?
I mean, you would think so,
but I guess, like, how do you test?
True, but it's, but it's also like,
I feel like they have smart enough people.
It's not me and you there.
And it's like, well, I included myself in that as well.
But it's like, you would imagine, like,
whatever they have the dosage correct with,
like how, you know, height and weight.
And it should be like, OK, just make sure it's a lot.
Yeah, but have you ever had surgery
where they try to put you under
and you don't go under right away?
Oh, I went under immediately.
Oh, see, like I didn't.
They had to, like, give me more.
And they were like, well, and it was also,
no, but it was also injected high tolerance, tolerance
for whatever.
But I was like, they're like, you're not sleeping yet.
And I was like, oh, no, I was I was immediately no under
two times, both times wrong.
So, yeah. So she's currently.
I was like, what in the heck is that?
Oh, I just heard Harvey.
Oh, good. Oh, good.
Yeah, I was like, I was like, wait, I can't escape.
So she was obviously has been hospitalized
since and is obviously critically ill
after they failed this execution.
I saw over the weekend the
the guy that runs the jail, like resign in your mustache.
Do I? Yeah, it is.
I like toothpaste.
It's white. You got it too late.
Oh, so anyways, we have a clip as well.
Her attorney went on.
Yeah, let's let's hear what he has to say.
What's her condition this morning?
It remains the same.
She's still in the hospital on a ventilator, critically ill.
We don't really know the prognosis yet and may not know for several days.
Was she ever conscious after this?
Has she been able to say anything?
Not that I'm aware of.
No, they haven't let you in to see her.
No. And she is guarded.
I'm not sure who may have seen her.
I know I have not seen her.
So I wonder who has seen her.
If the lawyer, if her attorney has no idea, has anyone seen her?
I mean, usually they're only allowed to access to their attorneys, right?
I don't even have family and friends or whatnot.
It's obviously just like a wild story.
It is. And it is that I know she's a murderer.
I know she killed the 19 year old in a brutal way.
Yeah, I mean, this is that's my other thing, though, is you have to look at.
I mean, she clearly was sentenced to death for.
Yes, but it's weird that she was the only one of the other
of the three people involved that was sentenced to death row.
I still find that weird.
And I know that she I mean, they they had a they.
According to the University of Tennessee, she the the woman who they killed
endured a lengthy beating and torture.
So I don't know.
Apparently, she thought that this girl was into her boyfriend.
It was one of those like the what?
But at the end of the day, it's like in Tennessee, like whether you believe or
I mean, you know, a lot of people don't believe in the death penalty.
But like, unfortunately, in that state, they have it.
And she was sentenced to it.
And now, yeah, I mean, it's horrific what obviously happened to her.
And now, you know, she it didn't work.
And now she's, you know, in a hospital bed.
But I mean, I'm not trying to be insensitive here,
but it's like they were going to sentence her to death.
Yes. But now they're having a lawsuit on their hands.
But I do find it kind of ironic
because Krista was trying to fight and be like, OK, that's fine.
If I had like the death row, she accepted it.
But she said like she is like claustrophobic.
So she was actually asking if they can do a firearm like a firing squad.
Yes, they have that there.
They will see. That's what she wanted.
She wanted an all female firing squad.
And then she was like,
I would also like if one of the family members of the person that she murdered
were all firing squad and Tennessee didn't do it.
They went with lethal injection.
And I'm like, now do they kind of like maybe wish that they went with a firing
squad because they wouldn't have this on their hands?
Yeah. I mean, it's just a crazy, crazy story.
Yeah. But yeah.
So I don't I don't really
apparently the doctors don't even understand how she survived.
That's according to the attorney.
And she started snoring when after like it happened,
she fell unconscious and just started snoring.
Yeah. I don't know what they do from here.
Well, yeah, I mean, it's like it doesn't seem like she's going to recover.
No, according to like what her attorney saying and medical
the medical staff saying.
But it's also like she was sentenced to death.
So now do they go again?
I guess that's kind of. Yeah.
But do they really try a lethal injection a third time?
I mean, if someone messed up here, someone, someone should have lost their job.
I know the I'm sure someone will.
There's going to be a length of the jail resign.
So he clearly felt some culpability to this whole thing.
I do just want to point out there's a lot of people in chat saying like things
like an eye for an eye and a lot of people are expressing no sympathy for her.
Well, but that's I guess there's no sympathy, but she's not dead.
This was just like a horrible, like two lethal injections.
It's just insane.
It's just like this is why people also don't like the death penalty,
because like there's no like certainty like in it and there can go like so wrong.
And now there's tax dollars are even paying more money
because someone's paying the bill for medical care that she's getting.
I think that they're going to rethink lethal injection.
Well, I don't know.
I mean, they have to look at their policy or look at their procedures
or look who they bought the drugs from.
Yeah, clearly someone messed up here.
And I don't know who that is, but I mean, clearly they need to rethink
or re go over their whole procedure when it comes to lethal injection.
For sure. Yeah.
So you want to talk about this lucky thing or no?
Got it. Oh, yeah.
This is a quick one.
But yeah, I mean, obviously I would imagine that they will then
have to schedule another.
Yeah. I mean, if you just go back and like looking at everything that you did,
the girl that she murdered was tortured with a box.
Yeah, I know. That's what I was like.
I know it was a horrific crime.
And someone doesn't get sentenced to death if they didn't do something
that was horrific. No.
So, yeah, I don't know.
I guess now going from here, they set up a new date or they I mean,
it doesn't sound like she's going to recover.
So like, no, I don't really know what happens from here.
No, but who gets sued the doctor?
Everyone, everyone. I'm sure everyone. Yeah.
And the governor hasn't spoke on it yet, has he?
I don't think he has.
Oh, I don't know. It's really, really crazy. I know.
OK, guys. Well, sorry.
It's a quick one today. There's a lot going on.
I actually have to get back to my desk.
Oh, look at you.
No, I know. I have a lot of things to do this.
And we have to film our television show.
Sorry, couldn't be longer.
This is a nice little short episode. Yeah.
So, yeah. Well, tomorrow.
Yeah. Tomorrow, hopefully it'll be a little more uplifting
stories and a little longer.
I don't get some uplifting stories.
The website's pretty depressing.
Pretty, pretty grim out there, guys.
All righty. Have a good week.
