During a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Ryazan, an Il-78 tanker was damaged at the Dyagilevo airfield. OSINT analysts reached this conclusion after reviewing available photos and videos. The Il-78 is the only specialized tanker aircraft in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces: without them, strategic and long-range aviation cannot refuel in the air or operate over long distances. A whole group of large objects came under attack during the night:
Ryazan Oil Refinery. AVT-1, AVT-4, AT-6, and AVT-3, as well as three secondary processing units, one of which was a vacuum gas oil hydrotreater, were damaged. A major fire broke out at the facility. Two facilities were damaged: a Wildberries warehouse and the OpenYard server equipment production facility located in the Open Source Development Center. A fire broke out at both sites.
In recent days, Ukraine has shifted from pinpoint strikes to massive airstrikes. Significantly, after a long pause, three major oil refineries have already been hit in just five days in November. To overcome the strengthened air defenses around strategic plants, Kyiv is deploying larger drone groups, which is why the attacks appear massive. Moreover, the drones, arriving in large numbers, continue to target critical process units, rather than simply the storage tanks.
The Il-78 was developed by the Ilyushin Design Bureau based on the Il-76MD military transport aircraft. Its primary mission is to refuel military aircraft in mid-air, increasing their operational range and patrol time.
Recall, Ukrainian Defense Forces launched an air strike on strategic targets in Russia's Ryazan region. According to preliminary reports, Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery and a logistics center for the Wildberries marketplace. Explosions were then heard throughout the city. This refinery supplies fuel to the Russian army, making it a legitimate target for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As for Wildberries, this Russian marketplace sells goods for the "SVO." Furthermore, it helps the Russian military-industrial complex obtain sanctioned goods. Therefore, Wildberries is also a legitimate target for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
