All right, welcome back.
It is 6:32 on this Thursday morning. So we're following this
breaking news of fire crews responding
to a possible deadly fire in Rogers Park.
This is Sky Fox flying over the scene on Paulina,
about two and a half blocks south of Tui.
Saquon is there and say you're joining us live. What has unfolded?
Well, you know, we just got here about 30 minutes ago
and we are just starting to see a bunch of these first responders
who have been out here since very early this morning.
We understand this fire was contained at around 4:30 this morning
and still there's a large pool of
Fire presence and just EMS personnel on site as well.
Something notable to mention here,
the alderwoman here in this ward just showed up recently.
We've seen her talking with first responders.
We've seen her just kind of looking around to see what's going on.
We do anticipate that she would probably
say something here sometime this morning.
We also know that we're expecting to hear from officials
with the Chicago Fire Department about this.
They've indicated that they could speak about
this to members of the media this morning just
because it's been such a chaotic scene out here.
But at this point, of course, we'll just make sure we're
Staying on top of that and let you know if that's the case.
Here's what we know from the Chicago Fire Department so far.
This is a four-unit townhome building.
It sounds like that fire was contained to just one townhome,
and we know four people were transported
in critical condition to nearby hospitals.
CFD is telling us that CPR was performed on at least one patient.
However, neighbors estimate that that number
is a little bit higher than what CFD was telling us.
Three people, we understand, were displaced from nearby units.
And a lot of those neighbors, you know,
were out here trying to figure out what their next move is.
They also, you know, they know the people
who were brought to these hospitals.
So for them, it's been a very, very emotional morning out here.
I want you to take a look at this video.
I think we've showed that to you.
It kind of shows you what the fire looked like
when it was actually burning.
This was captured by a neighbor
who's actually just moved here not too long ago, about two months ago.
And he said that he woke up in the middle
of the night to people screaming for help.
Take a listen.
I woke up off my couch to people screaming
for help like they heard ow and help and couldn't
exactly determine what it was at first
and just it was that's the initial thing that woke me up.
People screaming.
Glass breaking.
At this point we have not heard of any fatalities.
The only fatality we can report
at this time is that one pet is deceased
and that information is coming from the Chicago Fire Department.
We're seeing a lot of tears out here. We're seeing a lot
of people trying to talk with first responders and see what's going on.
We did hear from a neighbor earlier this morning who lives pretty much
right next door to where this unit is and they said that they had just
gotten done celebrating Halloween together and they were very close
to the people who were inside that unit. So of course we'll
Keep an eye out for an update
on those conditions for those victims there.
But in the meantime, we'll also try to hear from some
of these officials with the fire department
and see if they can provide any other updates throughout the morning.
Back to you.
