Anita, that car chase traveled up and down the Dan Ryan Expressway,
at times going through a gas station where it reportedly hit
Two Chicago police squad cars, it crashed into a pole on Garfield
Boulevard, and that's where police took the driver into custody.
Chicago police say that officers observed the vehicle in traffic.
The black Nissan Sentra was wanted in connection
with an incident earlier in the day.
A police helicopter followed the vehicle
as it exited from a gas station.
The Nissan apparently drove the wrong way down some streets
and struck several cars during the pursuit.
Police followed that vehicle.
...until it hit a pole and crashed in the 700 block of West Garfield.
A 23-year-old male offender was placed in custody.
And they say a female passenger was in the car.
We have a vehicle that is wanted for a kidnapping
We have a vehicle that is just exiting
the gas station for 63rd and Yale.
And it's southbound. It is a black Nissan Sentra.
I'm trying to confirm that right now with this passenger
that we got in the vehicle or they got in the vehicle.
10-4-7-9-9 we still figuring it out.
For information that I just got,
this is the kidnapping victim that we have here.
Well, the Palatine police chief confirmed
that his department responded to an earlier incident
that might be connected to this, but they're still checking it out.
They're verifying the claims
before they can release any more information about
their investigation. Reporting live,
I'm Joni Lum. Anita? Well, Joni,
I get the fact that there were multiple agencies here,
but talk a little bit more about
the huge response that we saw in that video.
You saw how many cars were involved in that, that police chase.
It really only took about 10
minutes, but at times people all over
the South side could hear those sirens. It was going up and
down the Dan Ryan expressway, changing directions.
Police were able to stay with that car, apparently
corral that car. Ambulances also responded to the scene,
but it all ended without injuries.
Anita. Wow. All right, Joni. Thank you. We appreciate it.
