Of course, we've got to get to our big story tonight at 9.
After a fiery crash on Milwaukee's north side,
multiple people ran towards the flames to try and get that driver out.
Christina Van Zeltz to talk with two
of those people who are being called heroes.
Kim and Ben, this crash happened yesterday morning.
Two vehicles caught on fire.
Without any time to think, two people who were doing
a lead inspection nearby heard someone was still inside the truck.
And what happens next is all on video.
Tons of smoke. I've never seen so much smoke from a vehicle.
And then all of a sudden, that smoke just lit up like a ball of fire.
Joe Benarik was working near 6th and Chambers when he heard a crash
and started taking this video he initially thought was a crime.
Until he heard someone yell, there was a person still in the truck.
At that moment, I'm like, you know what,
either I'm going to be able to help him
or I'm going to get hurt.
And I just ran, like instinctually ran.
To the vehicle, Milwaukee police say just before 10 Tuesday morning,
the driver of the truck lost control and collided with a parked car.
Both vehicles started on fire. There's so much smoke in there.
I couldn't really see his face at all.
And all of a sudden he leaned forward to the glass
and his eyes were just big and buggy and really disoriented.
And I saw a panic in his eyes.
And at that moment I was like, nothing else matters.
We got to get this guy out of here.
Benarik tried breaking the window, but it wouldn't budge.
Then the driver opened the door.
The look on his face, he was absolutely disoriented,
didn't understand what was happening.
Ryan Eigenfeld ran to help too,
ultimately helping drag the 63-year-old man from the truck to safety.
And you just go. There wasn't even a hesitation.
I really didn't feel any fear towards it. You just went in to help.
Less than 30 seconds later, the entire truck is engulfed in flames.
Within a minute, things could have been dramatically different.
Now the number one thing both of those good Samaritans wanted
to know tonight is how that driver is doing today.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment Tuesday.
We reached out to police for an update on that man's condition,
but we haven't yet heard back. Nobody else in this incident was hurt.
Kim? Unbelievable. And the good news is that those Samaritans
were not hurt in that rescue. Thanks, Christina.
