Fulton County housing plan aids former inmates

You know, a second chance at life can start with a place to call home. A new housing program in Fulton County is working to help people who were formerly incarcerated find affordable, stable housing as they rebuild their lives. Fox 5's Annie Mapp spoke to the man behind the program and has the story. It's called Project Rebuild, and it's offering more than just a roof over someone's head. It's also connecting them to resources to make sure they stay on the right track. For people returning home after incarceration, finding a place to live can be one of the biggest challenges they face. This is a sad time in certain spaces, so we want to bring the light that we share. Keith Lewis has been actively involved in helping men better themselves through his program, I Am a Father First, and L&R Investments, where he strives to reduce fatherless homes and help people in need. Now he's launched Project Rebuild in hopes of reducing homelessness. So many people are just strapped financially, and the last thing we want you to do is wonder where you're putting your head down at night. He says it's an affordable housing option that offers an opportunity to start fresh. We take people that are coming out of the system, take people that are coming out of accountability court, take people that are coming from therapists. That's our main pipeline right now. The project currently consists of six homes with under 25 tenants. Homes are located throughout Metro Atlanta, offering private living units designed with convenience and privacy in mind. Unit costs range around $700 to $1,000 a month. Lewis says his goal is to have more next year. I would love to have 50, 100 units and really be affordable living. You know, and that's going to take work at the Capitol for us to have government reimbursement. Reimbursement. Those interested in learning.
