We want to turn our attention now to a very unique story
that's happening in Heard County today.
That's where students at Heard County High School
are learning what it takes to put on a rock concert.
You heard that right.
So let's bring in our Chris Rosenthal, who is now live there.
Chris, this seems like a really unique way to teach students something.
Tell us about it.
Absolutely.
At that rock show that's going on behind me right now,
I'll just kind of pan over and show you the vocal kick.
It's a rock show for the students here
at Heard County High School, and what's really special
is these students help put this show on,
everything from the lighting and the promoting and helping
to set up the video board and the photography
and everything that goes along with a rock
show.
This is really about opening kids' eyes,
opening these students' eyes to careers, various careers
in the entertainment industry or, you know,
other, you know, movie industry, whatever it
may be.
It may involve these sorts of skills,
and they've been doing this for the past couple
days here at Heard County High School, part of Reach and Teach.
It's a non-profit that works with these schools to set up these shows
and give these kids
this experience.
Of course, they're enjoying the show now,
part of the fruits of their labor here.
I spoke a little bit earlier today
with the singer for the Bellwether Club, who is
He's the founder of Reach and Teach.
A little bit more about their history.
Let's take a listen.
Giving students an opportunity to discover careers
in the entertainment business that they may not know exist.
And especially here in the state of Georgia, this is really,
really critical because we need that workforce
because there's a lot of movies being made here.
There's TV shows being made here. There's music being made here.
And so what we do is we give the kids an opportunity to discover
those things like lighting and sound and stage setting.
What sort of careers does this open up for them?
I mean, obviously concert industry, but...
But beyond that, too, well, you know,
lighting is going to be in television.
It's going to be a Broadway, you know,
it's going to be concert lighting as far as audio is concerned.
That can be everything from recording records to television,
to motion pictures, to concert production as well.
The video wall thing is everywhere now.
Yeah, it used to be kind of a luxury, but now it's everywhere.
So hospitality, promotion, marketing,
and I was involved in this program.
Of course, I mean,
do a show like this as well.
So, I don't know, my school, we've never had anything quite like this.
This is pretty fun for sure.
That's good.
It is so hard to hear you because that concert
is actively going on right now but I appreciate
you telling us about this.
I mean this is a really unique thing that they're doing to be
able to teach the kids how to basically put on something like this.
I mean essentially the
business behind the band so we appreciate your time
and we'll be checking in with you throughout
Afternoon Chris Rosenthal live in
Heard County at Heard County High School.
Thanks so much.
