Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned of the threat of possible sabotage and provocations from Russia in the first half of November. According to Polish and allied intelligence agencies, the possibility of armed groups infiltrating the country's territory cannot even be ruled out.

In response, Warsaw has strengthened border security with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast. Tusk announced this at the start of a meeting of the Polish Council of Ministers, RMF24 reports . "After receiving more precise information about the possibility of certain events occurring in the first half of November, in particular the infiltration of armed individuals into Polish territory, we decided to deploy significant police forces and counter-terrorism units to the border and strengthen border security," the statement said.

Tusk also reported suspicious activity near the Polish-Russian border on the night of November 3. According to border guards, unknown individuals carrying flashlights were near the border in the Sępopol region of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.

"A little after midnight, I received a message from a border guard about alarming movement on the Polish-Russian border in the north. People with flashlights. We very quickly mobilized the appropriate forces and resources there and were able to prevent a provocation," the prime minister said.

At the same time, the Polish Prime Minister noted that it was impossible to definitively confirm the intentions of these people. Tusk warned that tensions and escalation by Russia could continue. He called on Polish security forces to maintain heightened readiness to prevent possible acts of sabotage and provocation not only at the border but also within the country. Former Russian diplomat Boris Bondarev believes that Moscow may be seeking to test the strength of NATO unity and its willingness to act together. He believes that one way to do this could be by exploiting existing differences between Alliance member states. As Bondarev notes, a possible weakening of NATO's internal cohesion could impact the entire European security system. If the effectiveness of collective defense mechanisms declines, individual European countries will likely be forced to strengthen their own armed forces while simultaneously seeking additional formats for international cooperation, particularly with Russia. Russia may attempt to provoke a new escalation against NATO countries if it helps the Kremlin retain power and advance the interests of dictator Vladimir Putin's military entourage. Kaliningrad could be one potential target for such an escalation, and talk of an imminent military operation could be part of the dangerous scenarios Russian security officials are proposing to the country's leadership. Opera singer, public figure, and former State Duma deputy Maria Maksakova reported this.
