A woman dragged into the woods and attacked in broad daylight.
Deputies called it a calculated ambush.
And the suspect, get this, is just 17 years old.
This here is the moment Volusia County deputies tracked down
that teenager.
He's accused of jumping on that woman, punching her in the face
and then pulling down her shirt.
Thanks for joining us tonight. I'm Luann Sorrell.
I'm Jack Royer. We want to get right
to Chancellor Wynne, who's joining us live.
Chancellor, the woman managed to fight off the suspect
who the sheriff says was already on the radar of law enforcement.
Yeah, that's right. The Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood says
the 17-year-old just a few months ago
was cited for prowling and loitering in a neighborhood yard.
Well, now the sheriff says
that initial warning sign has escalated into a violent attack.
Show me your hand. It's thick.
Keep your hands where I can see them.
Body cam shows Volusia County Sheriff's deputies finding
the 17-year-old hiding in the woods
after deputies say around 5.30 Tuesday evening
near South Blue Lake Avenue and Windy Knoll Lane,
the teen allegedly blindsided a woman from behind,
punched her in the face, and pulled down her shirt.
She fought her rear end off and then chased him
and then flagged down a car to call law enforcement.
According to the arrest report,
the woman scratched her attacker and chased him into an open field,
where deputies say he had hidden an electric bike to get away.
Sheriff Chitwood says he thinks the teen had been watching the woman.
I believe, and we'll find out through
the investigation, is she was spied on.
This is somebody this kid looked at, knew about,
knew their pattern, and then attacked them.
Sheriff Chitwood revealed the 17 year old
was previously cited for loitering and prowling in a yard.
Now he faces first degree felony charges of kidnapping
and attempted sexual battery.
According to an arrest report, the teen admitted to detectives he ran
because he knew he did something wrong.
Now the 17 year old was bitten by the deputy's K9.
He was treated for that bite at a hospital before being booked
into the juvenile detention center.
