The US Air Force has solicited defense contractors for the possibility of supplying a new cruise missile destined for Ukraine. Potential contractors are being asked to detail their capabilities for supplying long-range missiles under the Extended Range Attack Munition program, Air Force Times reports.

It is noted that the US Air Force's new RFQ , with a response deadline of November 19, outlines some of the missile's technical specifications. It is to be a weapon weighing approximately 230 kg with a range of over 463 km and a speed in excess of Mach 0.6. Terminal accuracy must be no more than 10 meters from the target, even in conditions of radio interference. In addition to explosive and fragmentation effects, the munition must also have limited penetrating power upon impact.

The US Air Force described the required missile as "a next-generation cruise missile designed to provide affordable, mass-producible capability in combat environments." The publication recalled that in 2024, the US Air Force awarded a contract to two small defense companies—Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire—to develop prototypes of the long-range missile. In January 2026, the US Air Force already conducted a warhead test with a live detonation at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Journalists noted that a similar rush is evident in the request for information, which states that the companies must begin delivering the first of more than 1,000 ERAM missiles no later than three months after contract award. Deliveries are to be completed within 15 months.

As a reminder, the US State Department previously approved the sale of 500 Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine for $2.1 billion. The purchase price will be provided by Canada, Germany, and Norway.

It is known that Ukraine will receive PAC-3 MSE missiles. The delivery will also include classified and unclassified spare parts for the missiles and other related logistical and program support items.

However, as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist Alex Raufogl reported, citing his own sources, the delivery of 500 PAC-3 MSE missiles to Ukraine will not take place until after 2030. This does not solve the acute shortage of interceptor missiles, which Ukraine desperately needs ahead of this winter.
