In Hoboken, finding a parking spot can
sometimes feel like a commute all by itself.
You circle, you wait, you see a spot,
and then watch somebody else get there first.
Days and days, hours, maybe even weeks of searching for parking,
visiting my wife in the city.
We all know how hard it is to find parking in the city.
And sometimes I would even have to go home
because I couldn't find a parking spot.
That's why Kevin Kitos and his wife Julie came up with Make Way.
An app they've launched in Hoboken with plans to expand to other areas.
The idea? Connect the person leaving
a parking spot with the person looking for one.
So I know I'm parked over here, I pin my spot, I hit next,
it's my car right there, and I simply confirm.
Now MakeWay will notify everybody
in this vicinity where I'm parked in real time.
So you're not necessarily reserving the spot,
instead you're getting a heads up for somebody
that's potentially leaving in hopes
of being able to swap in and take it.
Our idea is neighborliness and when you leave a spot
and someone else takes it,
you're making way for somebody else.
Makeway says it covers the cost of a reward
when a parking spot is successfully handed off.
There could be less traffic, less car accidents, there could be
Less double parking, the bike lanes would be clear,
and all of these issues could be resolved if we all came together.
And the company hopes that small act
of neighborliness can make a big difference on the road.
This is really about the value of finding a spot.
People can save time, save frustration,
and save the worst time of their day.
Drivers still have to pay for parking,
and there's no guarantee you'll get a spot.
But if it does work, you can spend less time circling,
because sometimes the toll of commuting...
It's just getting everyone on the same
block in Hoboken Amanda Eustis.
