The victory was driven by a standout performance from Caleb Williams and the immediate defensive impact of newly acquired Jeffrey Simmons.
Last night, the Chicago Bears routed
the Seattle Seahawks 34 to 17 behind the backs of a
dominant Caleb Williams performance and newly acquired Jeffrey Simmons.
And they actually made a little bit of history.
But just how impactful was this?
Let's talk about it.
Listen, if you're new to the channel, it's your boy PK.
This is the Windy City Breeze talking Chicago at Chicago Talks.
Y'all know y'all been rocking with us.
All 30 plus thousand of you all who enjoyed the live last night.
We appreciate you all.
Now let's double back and relive this moment
because what a freaking game.
Listen, last night we actually made a little bit of history.
It's the first time in franchise history,
and it actually may be in the first time in franchise history for sure,
that the Bears have beat the runner-up in the Super Bowl
and the actual Super Bowl champs in consecutive weeks,
doing so actually in spectacular fashion.
And a lot of that comes down to everything we saw.
We're going to get to Jeffrey Simmons in a second.
Let's start with the offense.
Because most of the individuals
who actually had the Seattle Seahawks beating us
chose the fact that their defense was so stifling
and how much they've actually impacted other QBs.
You look at Patrick Mahomes,
worst game in his life as a Kansas City Chief.
It was ridiculous.
We have to give credit where credit is due.
Their defense is a top-two, top-one defense.
You can argue with that with Minnesota all you want to,
but they know what they're doing.
And McDaniels knows exactly how to make things happen on that front.
But guess what?
We were able to actually overcome that.
Been actually called a great game.
Caleb actually executed perfectly.
Caleb actually had in the first half,
I think the same or just a little bit more as far
as yardage than Patrick Mahomes had all game last week versus
the Seattle Seahawks.
That's impressive.
Caleb actually was the first QB this season
to actually get over 200 yards, which many
people didn't expect because of how stifling this defense was.
Couple takeaways from that.
Caleb, superb.
Patient, didn't force the issue,
and actually executed the game plan.
Now, we do see some moments in which, you know,
maybe we took on a sack that we typically wouldn't have.
And I think a lot of that comes down to the fact that
Caleb is still just not the mobile QB
that he was before the hamstring injury.
And that's probably what we're going to be dealing with
for the rest of the season.
But the immense talent that he has
to actually pick apart a defense
And the fact that.
Ben Johnson actually schemed it pretty well.
We didn't have too many drops.
We didn't have a lot of things that
actually went against us on offense.
The offense from top to bottom ran a clean operation.
And that is actually what's necessary
if you're going to beat the Super Bowl champs.
Now, we know that their offense is not necessarily ours.
Like, Sam Donald is not Caleb.
But they've insulated him enough,
and they have one man over there named JSN,
who we'll talk about in a second.
That keeps them competitive,
and I think most people have them ranked as a top 10 offense.
Eh, anyway.
But regardless, we looked like the better team offensively.
All night, there was not a moment where I felt
as if that team was a Super Bowl team
that we couldn't compete with,
i.e. that we are a Super Bowl contending team.
And the acquisition of Jeffrey Simmons.
Actually proves that.
And let's pivot to the defense real quick.
This is an interesting stat.
This is the Jeffrey Simmons impact.
This is the Jeffrey Simmons effect.
In the 48 snaps that he was on the field for,
that Seahawks offense had 146 yards,
averaged three yards per play,
gave up three sacks and an INT.
On the sacks that Simmons was not on the field,
they ran off 106 yards and a touchdown
and averaged 13.3 yards per play.
Clearly night and day and immediately you felt his impact not just
when what he was able to do
but in how it impacted the players around him.
You saw we saw the team hidden that in ways that
we ain't never seen them them boys they never played
that hard all season but you saw them
hidden hard going for blood you saw that you saw
that impact you saw him actually the attention
that he garners on that line double triple team at times.
And exactly what he called out.
Hey, if I'm getting this much attention,
somebody needs to be getting home
or there's something wrong.
And that's exactly what Montez Sweat did.
Montez Sweat actually had two sacks.
They took one back
because of a boneheaded play downfield.
But he actually had two sacks
and three QB hits.
So when you look at that,
like that's the most we've seen
Montez Sweat be able to get home,
period, this whole season.
And it all starts because you finally got somebody
who can get that pressure,
who can get that much attention
or garner that much attention
and there's nothing you can do about it.
This is why you spend two firsts and a fourth.
Because the entire identity of our line
and how much pressure we was getting.
Sam Donald was in...
Hey, listen, that man was in trouble.
That man truly was having a bad day.
And it's all because of Simmons.
Now, without Simmons, this is a totally different game.
The stats actually prove it.
In a few snaps, that Simmons was not on the field.
But even with that being the case,
there is some things that we do.
Want to look at some things that we
do have to clean up and we all know it.
We all saw the impact that Jeffrey had.
We all we saw.
We saw the impact that it had on other players.
Oxden, Booker, Lewis.
Everyone was actually getting involved.
We even got a big man.
All that comes from the energy and impact of a dominant,
all pro caliber player coming on your team and wrecking havoc.
But we do have to talk about the fact that we need corners.
Despite this dominant win, despite everything else,
nothing is going to beat the fact
that this game should have been put away.
This game shouldn't have been as close as it was.
And I know 34-17 is not saying a lot.
But when you have corners that are getting beat the way that they are,
you might have to make some moves.
I am all in on the Khalil Mack conversation.
But to be honest with you, the way that our corners look,
ain't no doubt.
We need some help there.
Because the one thing, I will say this.
If a team can just scheme a split second, half a second more,
that goalball gone and that goalball going
to be successful because that's
exactly kind of what we saw in the touchdown with Seattle.
I don't know why Tariq Stevens played it the way he played it.
I have no idea what, what I don't, I don't understand this.
This, if you watch the stream, you saw it.
There's no rhyme or reason for it to have been played that way.
You know,
you have one job and that's that guy in front of you and he cooked.
Or he, listen, all I know is Sam John threw that thing in the air
and I'm just saying, oh no,
because I already know JSN is finna catch it because we can't cover.
But it didn't have to be JSN. Cooper Cupp got into action.
Like we had moments in which it's like, all right,
we clearly get pressure now. We're clearly giving them fits,
which is why this game is not as close as it could be.
But we're still going to need help if it's going to be something like
that. Seattle was good. Seattle is a Super Bowl champ.
You have to tip your cap to them. You have to give them that respect.
But you can't do something like that against the Bills
and expect it to go well.
And you can't do something like that against,
I would even say, the Rams still.
No, you can't.
You cannot.
You cannot.
So there's still some things that I want us to shore up,
some things that we still need to do.
But from his first game as a Bear, immediately giving Ryan that ROI,
immediately changing the culture on that defensive end, you see it.
Picks well spent.
Skip them picks.
Skip them picks.
Them two firsts, you're not going to find nobody
that's going to give that same impact
in that draft for the next two years.
It is not going to happen.
Picks well spent.
And we got the dub.
I want to hear your thoughts, though.
Tell me how you feel about Jeffrey Simmons.
Tell me how you feel about Caleb Williams.
Again, I won't even mention this.
Caleb Williams' first QB to go over 200 yards,
247 yards, 70% completion rate.
Something they said couldn't be done, got it done.
Looked good doing it.
On to the next one.
But I want to hear your thoughts.
What do you feel we need to do?
How do you feel about the game, first and foremost?
What do you think we need to do to stay competitive?
And ultimately, how do you feel the Tampa Bay game is going to go?
Put it all in the chat.
I'll be in there with you.
Until next time.
Peace.
