Today, Kansas voters are deciding whether to send a Democrat
to the U.S. Senate for the first time in nearly 100 years.
Republican Senator Roger Marshall
is up against Democrat Pastor Adam Hamilton
in a race that could help decide
which party controls the upper chamber.
Fox's Amalia Roy joining us live from Overland Park, Kansas.
She's at the Hamilton campaign watch party.
Amalia, what's the latest?
Hey, good evening, Alex. So very shortly,
people are going to gather here and wait and see if Adam
Hamilton can break a nearly 100 year Democrat losing streak.
A Democrat has not won the Senate
seat here since 1932. But over the course of this campaign,
we've seen the state go from likely red
to leaning red and then
the final Fox News power rankings showing that it's a toss up.
Now, big name Republicans have come
to Kansas to give Senator Marshall a boost,
Including Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Cruz and then from the White House,
both President Trump and Vice President Vance
visiting the state twice.
Trump and Marshall sharing the stage Sunday from Salina, Kansas
in a final pitch to voters.
You're not just choosing a senator,
you're deciding whether your kids
and grandkids grow up in Chuck Schumer's woke, radical America
or in the Kansas that we love.
Whether you're from Salina or I was raised in El Dorado,
lived in Great Bend now for 25 years.
Let's let Washington know where we're from.
Meanwhile, Democrat Adam Hamilton spent the last week
and a half on a bus tour across
Kansas, reaching out to some of the state's most rural voters,
Hamilton's slogan leading
from the middle, and calling himself an independent-minded Democrat
who will put his constituents over
party politics.
It's all part of an effort
to peel away enough Republican voters in a state Trump easily
won three times.
That's what surprised me, is how many Republicans have come
to my events and said, you've got
my vote.
You stand for what I stand for, and I'm very grateful for that.
I'm grateful for the Republicans, Independents,
and Democrats who are supporting me and who
are saying, we've gotta do better in Washington,
and we're gonna send you as a message to DC
that in reliably red Kansas, DC has to do better.
And Alec, I have here someone from Hamilton's campaign,
Glynis Harvey, who's here to tell us
about how they're feeling in these final moments
or final hours before we find out
who is going to go to DC.
You know, Amalia, it's really great to be here.
You've been on the road with us these past couple weeks.
It's been awesome. I mean, we feel good.
Early vote, outpaced 2022, which is awesome.
We're also seeing great turnout, Election Day turnout
in counties like Johnson County and Wyandotte and Sedgwick.
And we've just seen a lot of enthusiasm across the state.
So it's been a sprint to get here, but we're ready to see the results.
Now, I have one more question
because we have been together on these different stops across
the state.
Were there any times that you saw a growth in,
especially in these rural areas, more
Republican voters who might be going towards Adam Hamilton?
Yeah, I mean, in Hays, we had that great in that VFW Hall,
over 200 people there.
We had over 200 people in Newton.
Even in smaller areas, we were in Pratt, we had good crowds there.
The enthusiasm is coming not just from Democrats,
it's Republicans, it's independents who are
just tired of what's happening in Washington,
are frustrated with rising costs, are frustrated
with the lack of access to healthcare,
and that Roger Marshall hasn't been listening
to them.
So we feel really excited and we feel like Adam Hamilton
is giving a lot of people hope
and we're feeling cautiously optimistic about our results today.
Thank you so much, Glynis.
And Alec, whoever wins today will
be joining Republican Senator Jerry Moran in DC.
Back to you.
