Does your Phalaenopsis orchid have a flower spike
but still refuses to produce buds or bloom?
Don't be disappointed just yet.
Your orchid may be experiencing some problems that are
interrupting the flowering process.
I will share five simple care methods to help your
orchid stay healthy
and create favorable conditions to encourage blooming. From
adjusting the amount of water
and cleaning the leaves to caring for dormant buds and providing
natural nutrients. And here are the results after two months of care.
Let's explore them together.
First, when you see that your orchid has a flower spike,
but the buds are not developing,
don't rush to add fertilizer.
Observe the condition of the leaves, and check the root system first.
If the leaves start to wrinkle, become slightly soft,
or show mild yellowing, the orchid may
be lacking water.
I will check the roots inside the pot
to determine the exact condition of the orchid.
When lacking water, orchid roots usually turn silvery white instead
of green, which indicates
They have sufficient moisture.
At the same time, check the growing medium.
If it is dry and the roots show signs of dehydration,
it is time to water the orchid.
For orchids with aerial roots growing outside the pot,
I simply soak these roots in water briefly
to allow them to absorb moisture.
For orchids without aerial roots,
I gently water around the growing medium
to provide moisture to the roots inside.
After watering,
allow all excess water to drain away
and avoid letting water collect in the leaf axils or crown.
The important thing is not to
water on a fixed schedule.
The second method
is to clean the
leaves regularly.
After some time, dust can accumulate
on the leaf surfaces, reducing their
ability to absorb light.
In this video, I prepare a lemon,
cut it in half, and squeeze out one
tablespoon
of juice.
Then, mix it
with one
half liter
of water,
and stir well.
I soak a soft
cotton pad with an appropriate amount of the solution,
then gently wipe each leaf clean.
Wipe both the upper and lower surfaces of each leaf to remove dust
and long-term buildup.
Work very gently and avoid rubbing too hard,
as this could damage the leaf's epidermis
and cause scratches. Cleaner leaves
can absorb light more effectively,
supporting the process
of photosynthesis.
The third method
is to inspect and prune
old flower spikes, or those that are no longer
capable of developing well.
I use sterilized scissors to cut off flower spikes
that have dried up or turned brown.
From these dormant nodes,
the orchid may develop a new flower spike
or sometimes produce a baby plant.
Take a look. This is the flower
spike I cut two months ago.
Retained dormant
node, the orchid
has developed
a new flower spike.
Especially,
this orchid has also produced a healthy baby plant with many new roots.
When the baby plant has developed a sufficient root system,
you can gently separate it
and plant it in its own pot for continued care.
Fourth method
is to adjust the day
and night temperatures.
Because temperature
differences
can stimulate mature Phalaenopsis
orchids to produce flower spikes,
place the orchid in a
well-ventilated area with indirect light
and cooler nighttime temperatures than during the day.
Avoid sudden cold drafts, excessively low temperatures,
or harsh direct sunlight to
help the
orchid grow
healthily
and bloom
better.
The fifth method, provide
natural nutrients
from banana peels.
I use sterilized scissors to cut off flower spikes
that have dried up or turned brown.
I put all
the banana
peel pieces
into a clean jar.
Next, I add about one liter
of water to the jar
and stir well.
Let the mixture soak for a few hours.
After soaking,
I strain out all
the banana pulp
to obtain
the clear liquid.
Banana peels contain potassium and other minerals,
so many gardeners make use of them when caring
for
their
plants.
I use only a small amount, avoid applying it too often,
and make sure the growing medium
does
not
stay
wet
for too
long.
You should only apply this mixture once a month,
in moderate amounts, avoiding overly
Overly frequent use.
Observe your orchid regularly, adjust your care routine,
and keep it in a cool, well-ventilated
place.
After two months of care,
the Phalaenopsis orchid has started to develop new flower buds.
The buds gradually grew larger and eventually
opened into beautiful, vibrant flowers.
Seeing this orchid go from having a flower spike
but no buds to blooming so beautifully
makes me truly happy.
To help Phalaenopsis orchids bloom well,
you need to provide proper nutrition and maintain
other important
care conditions.
