And I see him standing by, so let's go ahead and bring him in.
Larry, let's get into this race here.
Your focus is on the Republican candidate here, Tim Fleming.
He is facing Penny Brown Reynolds.
So tell us where you are and a little bit about the race,
a little bit of background about Republican Tim Fleming.
Good afternoon, Jasmine.
So we are here at the Westin Hotel here in Sandy Springs,
right next to the King and Queen buildings.
But let me just step out of the way
so I can just show you exactly what's going on. It's still very early,
but we are here at the Rick Jackson headquarters outside in the lobby.
They're not allowing you can see our Doug Evans
and Tara over there as well. So Fox 5 is really here in the building.
We are waiting to go inside of the lobby,
but just kind of give you some background in regards to this race.
I'm covering Tim Fleming. He is a two term state.
Lawmaker and former Deputy Secretary
of State under Brian Kemp currently serves on the Legislative
Committee helping select Georgia's next voting system.
Now, the winner of this race, which is
very important, will determine
who oversees Georgia's entire balloting system and administers
upcoming elections with national consequences,
including the upcoming 2028 presidential race.
Now, this position, this seat right here,
gained national attention back in 2020
when Donald Trump, President Donald Trump,
called Brad Raffensperger, the current
Secretary of State and ask him to find 11,780 votes.
Now, both nominees, as of right now,
pledge to improve state balloting, but they present
sharply contrasting approaches.
Fleming opposes Georgia's current electronic
ballot marketing machines and sponsored an
amendment.
Requiring the special election committee
to focus only on hand-marked paper ballots.
Meanwhile, Fleming also seeks to defend photo identification laws
and eliminate no-excuse
absentee ballot.
Meanwhile, his opponent, Judge Penny Brown Reynolds,
she wants to expand weekend voting
hours, extend absentee ballot windows, and add more secure drop boxes.
So, yes.
And so this is a very large race,
a very big race that's being monitored.
I did reach out to Tim Fleming's campaign team,
just trying to see if we can maybe talk
to him before and after, still waiting to talk to him,
but we're going to continue to
stay out here and we're going to monitor this race
as the polls are open and when the polls
close as well.
We are live in Sandy Springs.
I'm Larry Sproul, Fox 5 News.
All right, Larry, thanks so much
for joining us to talk about this race.
We're going to continue our conversation on this race.
