Welcome back in to Good Day DC on this election day.
We know it's here and we're checking in
with Loudoun County to make sure voters have
the information they need. Let's welcome in Samantha
Alfaro, communications manager for the Loudoun County Office
of Elections and Voter Registration.
Good to see you. Thanks so much for joining us.
Hello. Thank you for having me today.
You're welcome. Let's talk about the polling centers. For starters,
we know they've been open since 6 a.m. How's
the voter turnout been so far this morning?
Yeah, I don't have a raw number just yet.
I will have those numbers right after 10 a.m.
so I can follow back up with you guys.
Our precincts do a 10, 1 and 4 check in where
they basically tell us how many people have voted.
And we actually push that all on our
social media. So if you at home want to stay tuned,
you can check out Loud and Votes on
Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
and you can kind of see how turnout is looking thus far
today.
All right, we'll make sure that we keep our eyes peeled for that.
We know early voting wrapped up on Saturday.
What should voters know before they head out today?
Yes. So main thing voters should know is where to vote. In Virginia,
you have to vote at your assigned precinct.
So you want to make sure you look that up before
you go to the polls. You can go to loudoun.gov slash vote
and you'll find your assigned precinct
there. Also make sure you have a form of acceptable ID with you.
Driver's license is
perfect. You take it and go vote.
And also make sure you know what's on the ballot.
If you go to loudoun.gov slash vote, you'll see a sample ballot.
That way you can be in and out after you cast your ballot.
Now, by now, most people have registered to vote,
but there's still a chance for those
who have not had the opportunities.
So how can they go about that for anyone listening?
Yes, absolutely.
So if you've moved or you've changed your name
or your first time voter and you wanna
register to vote, you can do that at your polling place.
You will go, you will fill out a voter application form
and what's gonna happen is then your
ballot is gonna be put into a folder
and we will review that at the election so we can
make sure you are who you say you are.
But that option is called same-day voter registration.
So when you go into the polling place,
talk to an election worker and tell them that you
would like to do same-day voter registration,
and they'll help you through the process.
All right.
I'm sure some people are happy to hear about that.
DOJ deploying a number of election monitors,
I know this is another hot topic this election
day.
They've called it the largest monitoring effort in history.
Will voters see some of this in Loudoun County?
And if so, what should they know?
Yeah, in Loudoun County,
we did not get any communication that we were expecting DOJ
monitors. We have not received any communication
that we have seen any monitors since the polls
have opened. So voters in Loudoun County should not expect that.
Okay, wonderful. Thank you so much, Samantha,
for a few moments of your time. We appreciate it.
Thank you. Have a good one.
You as well. Take care. We have their website
on our screen here, loudoun.gov slash vote
for more information.
