Hey, welcome back. Children's Medical Center
Foundation will host its annual Swing for
Miracles this Friday.
It is to raise money to support pediatric care at Children's Health.
Joining me this morning is this year's honorary patient chair
of the event, Avery Lilly. Good
morning to you. Good morning. All right, so you enjoy golf?
Yes, sir. You're doing pretty well?
Yes, sir. Okay. I'll try.
You could probably beat me, I would imagine, right?
Yeah, yeah. All right,
All right, so tell me about this.
You got to ring the bell this past spring.
Saying that you were cancer-free?
Yes, sir.
Wow, that's amazing.
So tell me about your journey.
You underwent two brain surgeries and several years of treatment.
Yes, sir.
So in November of 2023, I had my first brain surgery.
Following that, I had...
Well, I had two brain surgeries,
two eye surgeries and two port surgeries.
Wow. Yes, sir.
Okay. That's got to be scary at your age, right?
Yes, sir. It was very scary.
That's scary at any age.
Yes, sir.
Yeah. Have you been able to talk to other kids your age
or around your age?
What do you say to them?
How do you talk to them about what they're experiencing
and what you've experienced?
So I've actually met a lot of kids through childrens that are my age
and have gone through
similar experiences such as me,
and we get to talk a lot about our journeys and how we
have hope and faith through that.
Okay.
What has been the feedback?
What do kids tell you?
Many kids tell me about how scared they were and,
you know, how hard of a journey it was to overcome.
Okay. What is the hardest part about that?
Is it learning your diagnosis
or is it undergoing all of these surgeries?
Honestly, I would say the hardest part
is definitely the surgeries, you know.
So, um...
Just going through everything and having to continue to fight.
It can be hard, but...
If you just have faith, you can get through it.
Okay, all right.
And so when you're the child ambassador for this?
Yes, sir.
Okay, for this, you're trying to raise money.
What do you want other people to know
that aren't going through the same thing you're going through?
What I would want other people to know is that,
you know, their donations and giving to kids
or children's hospital and just other purposes of the sort.
It helps many people who may be going through
Hard circumstances or, you know, just going through anything like that.
Because I imagine the support, somebody talking to you and helping you,
that's probably the most important thing, right?
Yes, sir.
Yeah, yeah.
All right.
Well, listen, we want to tell people
this event is sold out, unfortunately.
But there is a way to go ahead and you can sign up for next year.
There's a link that we have on our website, fox4news.com.
And also, I'm told there's an auction.
Yes, there's an auction that you can find.
At that link, where you can go on there,
even on the website, and then help raise money
through that as well.
Avery, thank you for your time this morning.
Yes, sir, absolutely.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you, too.
All right, Ali.
How are we looking?
